It’s one of the reasons bud I think that and the breaking might’ve been the main reasons because although the other eq cars with similar profiles struggle a bit to sell too they sell a lot more easily
@@Carfan678 I’d agree with you, there’s no ugly eq to me, I just don’t care for the rear a ton. When I see electric new bmw thoughts they look ugly and the side profiles don’t look suiting for the car, are too rugged looking or not proportional
No it’s different. BMW’s ugly has presence and people spending the money at least get attention. Mercedes’ ugly lacks presence and looks like a bar of soap. People spending that kind of money want to look rich.
Not only do I think the designs may contribute to the slow sales of Mercedes' EQ lineup, but I think it also just comes down to the current state of EVs here in the US. The cost of owning an EV is absolutely ridiculous and it boggles my mind that more people aren't talking about the significant disadvantages of EVs, particularly if you live in cities like New York or Chicago where charging for many people is a nightmare due to lack of or non-functional charging infrastructure.
The EQS is probably the car that appears the most different seeing it on a screen compared to seeing it in person. On the road it does have presence and a nice planted look. There is curvature and shoulders that the pics do not convey. In person it is quite impressive...I wouldn't call it beautiful, but definitely had presence.
@@DingoAteMeBaby yeah not great/handsome/pretty in any shape or form, just not as ghastly. Which in all honesty is not something one often says about a Mercedes. Kind of strange, it’s like Rolex suddenly forgetting how to make good looking watches lol
I actually like the “philosophy” Mercedes is using within their design currently. However I think they just need to push the emotion in the features slightly further. It’s too neutral. I LOVE the new details have added. So subtle but undeniably better. I’m hoping this is early ideation for further evolution of the Mercedes brand. If we could bring back a little more of the classic Mercedes DNA that would be much welcomed. Feels more classy and humanistic!
It seem you are confusing a bit, the AMG models maintains the same grill design, the small stars line grill is replaced by this one with Mercedes star on the bonnet and there's new interior headlights design with a curved shape
No mention of the front grill with the outie front camera. You mean to tell me the designers couldn't find some better way to integrate it other than the off-center position? Did they use up all their design energy on the infotainment screen? Anyway, what's the drag co-efficient of EQS? I suspect its pretty low to get such great fuel economy. I prefer a 5-spoke wheel but I have to admit, these are among the best alternates I've seen on any EV.
I was looking forward to a more traditional style grille and hood ornament, but the graphics look really crude and flat, almost like ribs of a skeleton and the vertical spacing is off on the top and bottom rib. I prefer the vertical lines of the panamerica style grille but without the centre badge (similar on the Maybach). I don’t mind the simple egg-shape silhouette. It’s sleek, modern, minimal and will not age very quickly like other EVs. I’ll just wait a couple of years to pick up one at a big discount.
i kinda fuck with the computermouse on wheels design. The Mercedes elblem is what was missing from me. Now i'm definitely gonna buy it. oh wait, also a space 100k is missing for me as well
It all feels like Mercedes is trying way too hard to make something new and unique at the same time...which really isn't working. They should just stick to the traditional design and make slight modifications.
I haven’t been a fan of Mercedes’ interiors ever since the advent of… screens and mood lighting I guess? They’re just so tacky. It feels like driving around in the bedroom from the final scene of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Like it’s trying to appeal to people who love both Victorian era opulence as well as futuristic bladerunner styling. Very Las Vegas casino.
Its not selling because people dont want to be forced to buy EV’s. They just aren’t good and cost more than what the average person needs for transportation.
From what I suspect, automakers don't want to be forced to building them either. Remember, this is all coming from government air quality mandates. They're going to be charged for every gram of particulate per kilometer past X amount. Regulation will become even more strict by 2026-2034
Bruno Sacco is only 90, maybe he could come back and tell how it’s done…the new E-class is alright but not quite. It too has that same front end design which similar to almost every single other manufacturer’s design right now. Renault, Nissan, Dacia etc. and now Mercedes. Mercedes used to be unique and now they are copying Dacia? Same with BMW, some models look like Skodas now. And Skoda look better…
Skodas have always copied BMW, even Kia with their "Shark" grille. Unfortunately, BMW seems to have embraced Skoda and is making some designs that at first glance could belong to Skoda. BMW's experimentive designs would have been okay if other companies didn't come close to BMW graphics, but obviously others have, and BMW just wants to give them designs that work exactly well for them.
Mercedes has been struggling with both S-Class and EQS and having driven both, their cost saving decisions on HMI elements are costing them a lot. You cannot raise the price of your vehicles by 40%, and put plastic elements everywhere you touch it.... Hypescreen is also a pretty horrible design element btw - blinds you when the Sun is glaring you on the right, and nanny features you cannot switch off (speed limit, for example) - it is not worth over 100,000 USD / EUR. BMW and Audi got the measure of Merc in this generation, both ICE and EV.
They don’t sell them because is a worse car than an equivalent S Class. Uglier, less luxurious and not even half as impressive as the internal combustion one.
You can probably download the look for that grille if you already have the existing model. Or slap a new piece of plastic unto it. They could at least have tried to give it a 3D-look.
I respect Mercedes for having tried to make the best EV possible. Also, it would be quite stupid to stick to all the proportions and limitations on traditional cars instead of making use of the freedom an electrical platform offers. But yeah, the styling is pretty bland. And upping it with old school details in such a blunt way looks very cheesy. But then, Mercedeses are cheesy cars.
For me it was the bait and switch from gorgeous prototype hype to easily one of the ugliest car ever made by Mercedes. There is no coming back. Mercedes lost all credibility on EQ range. Electrify the real S class and problem solved.
is very ugly car, looks completely rubbish they should install this technology fully electric in S Class just like BMW did with 7 Series one shape with option full electric or with fuel,,, instead of making this ugly EQS!!!!!
If EQS bad designs was the reason why their sells are low, BMW would've gone bankrupt a few years ago😅
It’s one of the reasons bud I think that and the breaking might’ve been the main reasons because although the other eq cars with similar profiles struggle a bit to sell too they sell a lot more easily
Call me crazy but the new 7 series is uglier than this in person
@@Carfan678 I’d agree with you, there’s no ugly eq to me, I just don’t care for the rear a ton. When I see electric new bmw thoughts they look ugly and the side profiles don’t look suiting for the car, are too rugged looking or not proportional

Or, crazy thought, your taste in car design isnt as popular as you think it is. People actually like BMWs designs.
Task : Use Photoshop to make the S class as awkward as possible (4Point)
Ans : EQS
C Class: Hey that’s my job!

Task: Refresh the EQS
Mercedes team: Changed the graphics of the front grill and put an ornament on top of the hood
Because it's cheaper to do that than further sink hundreds of millions into redesigning the whole car.
A Refresh?! Seems like Mercedes hired Apple designers
Because it isn’t a refresh, it is just an update with a new package. You can still get the old look if you want
@@Robin-rn1tlbut none of them look good
You are exactly right .
Problem with the EQS or EQE isn’t the front which now looks even more hideous but the overall shape.
The EQS is probably the car that appears the most different seeing it on a screen compared to seeing it in person. On the road it does have presence and a nice planted look. There is curvature and shoulders that the pics do not convey. In person it is quite impressive...I wouldn't call it beautiful, but definitely had presence.
I’d agree with your take on this. In person It’s not as bad as it does look like in pictures.
EQS owners? 🤔
Agreed it looks better in person, def unique and futuristic looking, also expensive looking
Id agree, but it doesnt look 'good' in any way. Looks like an econobox.
@@DingoAteMeBaby yeah not great/handsome/pretty in any shape or form, just not as ghastly. Which in all honesty is not something one often says about a Mercedes. Kind of strange, it’s like Rolex suddenly forgetting how to make good looking watches lol
The problem with these new car designs is mostly the shape and proportions and not necessary the design elements.
So so true 😢
By adding logo on the hood, MB said that they don’t care about aerodynamics anymore 😂
Its not its a sail. The amount of drag from that tiny logo is insignificant.
Probably eats like 0.6 miles of range and its still optional
😅
honestly, still looks shity to me
Love mine
7:32 Mercedes named it “the Hyperscreen”. In aviation we call something like this a glass cockpit. 😎

This car will go down in history as a flop
I think so too
A bean will never look luxurious🙂
True that 😅
🍌
I really dislike the taillight design. Most modern Mercedes have weird taillight graphics
Unfortunately, this new design is dead on arrival.
I have been waiting for your opinion on this car
The eqs refresh front a front view looks very cool it looks like a aerodynamic freight train

It would have sold more if they had stuck to the design of the EQS Vision concept.
I just never understood why they had to make the EQS a liftback! I prefer the look of the EQE.
Mercedes would have been better off just using their current design as their EVs like BMW did. These beans are just ridiculous.
I saw one from the previous generation last night in London and it does look better in the metal.
The asymmetric placement of the front camera in the front 'grille' is just disturbing...

Why does an EV even need a grill?
The star in the front is not gone it is an optional now. i love the star more which i have
The EQS has been the first truly EV: Aerodynamic mono volume. 👍
Most of the car looks like a late 90s Chrysler 300. The back of the Chrysler looks much better!
it looks like a prius.
4:00 I don’t understand why aerodynamic efficiency should be “faceless”? In contrary: Boxy is bulky.
already!?! there barely selling any of them
It looks like a Honda Odyssey from the front. The proportions are way off for a Mercedes Product.
Mercedes must have hired GM stylists from the 1980's. Looking like a Buick, Mercedes has lost their identity.
So true 👍 👌 😢
I think the car looks good. It looks different but still very similar
These cars could've easily been shooting brake designs and would've sold in Europe not in U.S tho.
nope still looks like a sexy turtle 😅... It never looked like the concept From years ago
Can legacy makers just stop putting fake grills on? It looks so tacky and hideous
4:04 The Ioniq 5 has an average drag coefficient. That’s why an Ioniq 6 exists…
Please make a video on Pagani Alisea Concept, love your videos

Are these new front grill stripes led's?
Just got a used eqs and its amazing, coming from a tesla its far superior. I hope people buy these so i can get them in 3 years for half the price

No its not. But its just as far from being the ugliest either. BMW take that prize. Then look to Hyundai for a close second.
BMW has destoryed mercedes when it comes to EVs and honestly just cars in general.

Awful awful designs I don’t know why both BMW and especially Mercedes can’t figure out how to design an EV
Not an upgrade, IMO. Also, not a fan of the "moustache" on the front
Looks very odd.
That EQS logo near the door mirrors is hideous and cheap-looking. Reminds of the Hyundai i40 'BlueDrive' logo.
It still looks HIDEOUS!
