  • I hope to get a better understanding of how to fettle & shape the trim sections by using some scrap alloy and then 2mm brass to make a template for both sides of the screen uprights. This really will be a big learning Curve Yes the Pun was intended.

This was fascinating. This means just before the 1960s began car manufacturers were more true car builders. The guys working on the cars had to be top notch craftsmen.
Great history and a very interesting explanation of what took place. Super video!

Dave, this saga is certainly testing the saying “keep the faith”. Fingers crossed the brass templates give you the solution. I assume you’ve gone a Jaguar forum to see if there are any others that have posted about such specialist trim fixing remedies? That looks like a tricky thing to add a bend or rolling it over to shape it to match the main section. But that said I’m sure you’ve got a tool in your vast array to do the job. Good luck. Look forward to the next update.

That‘s true! but considering the scale of the whole restoration it‘s gone pretty well so far fingers crossed 🤔🤣😂 I have spent days looking at websites or goggle to see why and how they are fitted and talking with restores and owners who have been through the same issues. Cheers Dave

Dave what a headache and very much the same problem on the E coupe and fitment. Working with brass perhaps look for videos on French horn repair. I know the more you work with brass the harder it get so you’ll need to use the torch to a-kneel the brass to make it workable. Good luck and I’ll watch the next video. Cheers 🍻 John

John, I have seen some photos of FHC chrome being glued and held in place with broom handles against a wall. Cheers Dave

Man you could get a fab shop to 3D scan those pillars and cnc cut two bronze bucks to press those hockey sticks for way cheaper than a grand

Doug, I‘m sure the guy making them in his shed in Birmingham or where ever isn't getting anywhere near that amount. Cheers Dave

Hi Dave . I would have made mock ups in cardboard as l do with all my fabricating and then transfered them to brass /metal . In fact l would use thin gauge metal , after all bumpers are steel .......just a thought ....Cheers !

Definitely the way to go. I’ve checked out several photos and the “hockey stick” looks much thinner on all the examples. Is your new chrome version cast or pressed? Cutting the new ones is a certainty but you need to get a roll at the end to fit the profile of the lower long strip. Doing it in ali is a great idea. Good luck 😉
