- The passenger side trim has gone quite well but now i have to tackle the drivers side chrome trim which will be far more of a challenge. I will have to have them stripped and Re-chromed as i can‘t leave the bare brass showing and the cuts i will have to make will be quite substantial.
You are a master surgeon!
Thanks for the complement but more like a jack of all trades and master of none 🤔🤣😂 Cheers Dave
Excellent work looks so much better
Nicholas, Thanks it‘s very much appreciated but I wont pat myself on the back till it‘s all back together and chromed. Cheers Dave
Nicely done Dave. Trimming these pillar chromes is common to XK and E-Type for better than factory fit. On a side note those small holes you see in these trims was to workhold while plating, not for small set screws.
Richard, Thanks, I was very relieved to find the info on the fact the roadster more so than the FHC & the DHC has to be pre fettled & shaped before chroming.
The roadster due to the very high curvature in the windscreen top was fitted with screws or rivets 3 in fact as i have seen this on an original none restored car
from the Jaguar factory. They do use tiger seal or bonding agents today when fitting the trims in place but the roadsters did orginally come with holes. I can
send you a photo to show this car if you're interested. Do you know Why there is a hole & round cover in the floor just behind the front seat it has an asbestos pad attached to it which obviously sits above the exhaust but Why is it there, I have asked but know one seems to have an answer. 🤔 Cheers Dave
Great improvement Dave! The fun of hand built cars I guess.
Thanks, I‘m afraid that's the nature of the beast. I have to say I felt more confident after seeing the video from Coventry Auto Components. Cheers Dave
Looks great 👍
Tony, Thanks, The say everyday is a school day and I have to admit I‘m learning all the time 🤔🤣😂 Still haven't had a go at the buffing yet 😲 Cheers Dave
Nerve wracking for sure. Great job, steady hands. I emailed some pictures of my original fit trim. Don’t know if it would help or not. Keep up the great work.
Ted, Thanks very much I will take a look. Hopefully it all works out and they great when there finished it would have bothered me to leave it. Cheers Dave
The trim looks a lot better now than it did prior to cutting some off. It's a bit hard to tell from the video, but to me it looks like the trimmed piece needs a small rounding over the end that meets up with the bottom wind screen trim part instead of just rounding the bottom edge of the trimmed part. Again, it's hard to judge from just the video.
Bill, I have quite a bit more to refine on this passenger side trim but it‘s a good start so far. Cheers Dave
That’s why if you ever ask a coach builder to see his dollies he’ll reply “all of them??” As they’ll have amassed hundreds of bucks, blocks, ridges or dimples
What kind of radius does it need? Maybe bend the Crome one with mor radius. Maybe some heat helps bend it? Croming company may of flatten it in some way.
