  • MotoMan finally drives one of the Classic Cars that have been sitting in the back of the Hangar for almost 3 years: The 1959 Jaguar XK150 S. As with the XK120 and the XK140 that came before it, this Jaguar XK150S has the Jaguar XK inline 6 cylinder engine and as we learn, has some other high tech for the day features. In between driving this Jaguar XK 150 S around LA, we play a round of our new game, #OptionsGameSenior

I know you don't get the views with the classic car reviews, but I love em. Thank you for doing them.

One thing that's always mentioned about the XK engine, is that it worked perfectly in race cars, sports cars and saloons. One of the classic power plants! I love that the AJ6 motor in my XJ40 is a direct descendant of this magnificent lump.

Motoman, a truly kind and thoughtful friend you are sir. What a burden you take on by driving such a gloriously gorgeous piece of history to local shows. George I'm loving this new format of alternating new and classic car reviews. The podcast is good, but the classic European cars are magnificent sir. Thank you.

Good video and good info, I grew up with jaguars and still love them and presently own a 40G. One point where you are wrong is the engagement of the overdrive in that you do not use the clutch, The overdrive is built with epicyclic gears and cone clutches witch operate via a soenoid and the switch on the dash much like an auto box.

I briefly had an XK150 roadster in 1968. Got it for cheap from someone who had gone through the engine, but it needed some cylinder head repair. DOHC was new to me, but it turned our fine. Totaled it a few weeks later, with no compensation. Yes, that engine is a real torquer. It got stuck in 3rd gear once, and could pull away without much effort. That one had no convertible top, just a tonneau cover.

You are indeed a good friend to help out driving that car when you could be at home mowing the lawn or other very important tasks! Great video. Thank you from just near where this car was made!

Such a nice car. I was a passenger once in a perfectly restored 1950 MK120 and we went on the Autobahn. It was a bit scary I have to admit, given the age of the car. 200 km/h top speed and we did 170 km/h. Great fun.

I have a sudden urge to listen to Chris De Burgh.
What a timeless beauty, its in an impeccable shape too.
M, you're a good & thoughtful friend. Not only you're giving this masterpiece the exercises it deserves, you're showing the world a timeless beauty from a bygone era where cars were work of art & not merely appliances, much respect.
On a side note, funny you mention Morgan, in my TH-cam feed the video literally above yours is Carfection's Morgan video lol.
    As always, excellent work. M.

My Dad had a 120M. Sold it before I was born, but I have photos. He had a ‘57 T-Bird that I was able to drive - and YES, those cars had much play in their steering. And I bet the disk brakes in that Jaguar are loads better than the drums in that T-Bird. Anyway - thanks for the review.

Very good review. Leapers do not belong on Jaguar sporting cars such as XKs and XJS's. All of those cars feature "growler" medallions and "leapers" are for saloons.

Just watched a video of an xk120 being driven, although only a few years younger the XK150 does seem a lot more refined already in terms of its driving experience, although not as pretty. I just love the deep downward swoop on the side profile of the 120. This car is also in much better condition than the 120 in the tedward video, although the sportier exhaust on that sounds amazing. I'd definitely want to hear the intake and exhaust on any car with an XK engine lol.

You are such a good friend George ;) , so much sacrifice for your friend to move his "red horse" around - which is comic but true, if it's not driven it will rot. It is not my taste and I don't even want to imagine having a crash with it - it's a pre-war concept car, although built after the war. I like the Gullwing or 356 though from this era. Great review thank you

The novel "The Odessa File" brought me here. This make and model was Peter Miller's ride as he was tailgating an SS baddie - and another SS Baddie was tailgating him...

i had an XK 150 S back in 1969-70. Spent a lot fixing it up, new interior, badges, re-chroming. Ran out of time and $$ and had to sell. Wonder if it's still around somewhere.

Brilliant and no grounds crew with a crank ;Hand starting/propeller swinging.. Contact ..engine stalls less worries . and a lolvy drive day....[not to mench other presenters..the clutch on some very new cars makes ones leg dead at too young an age..should not need a visit to the gym and weight training to operate the ankle to the knee to the hip after and before warm ups liek a 5k]

Motoman, you're a good fella to throw yourself into the briar patch and drive this car for its owner in absentia. One question for you. If you were going to take a U.S. Grand Tour, Maine to SoCal, which car would you take? You and a significant other, cost is no option. I would pick either a Bentley GT, or a Merc S560 coupe. You?

The “leaper”was NEVER fitted as standard to the XK sports cars for one very good reason : it detracts from from the stunning lines.
William Lyons knew exactly what he was doing with these designs - and if the “leaper” was an improvement Lyons would have had them fitted. The lily can not be guilded !
