  • After a lot of fettling and taking them on & off multiple times i think we
are pretty much in the ball park and where I'm happy to be at this point.
Aligning the drivers side trim will be tricky but they have the skill to get it correct. My bumpers were a real mess and badly dented and they repaired them better than new as the reproductions are poor quality.

Hi Dave, at the end of this "exercise" you will be an expert on these hockey sticks and I am sure you will watch every XK how well their sticks are fitted. You are not short cutting but going the extra mile. That speaks for you as a restorer. 👍 Great commitment.

Maikel, I have learned an expensive lesson and yes I will be looking at other cars from now on🤣😂Expert I‘m not more a jack of all trades and a master of none😉As you know better than most restoring classic cars has to be a passion it can‘t be done just for monetary gain. 🤔The devil is always in the detail. Cheers Dave

Well done Dave, well worth the effort, I would be the same, my eye would be drawn to it every time I stepped outside to the car.

Looks like taking the plunge and going for it has paid off. It certainly looks so much better and once it has been finished, rechromed and fixed in place it’ll look a million dollars. Top work.

I did think long and hard about how I was going to tackle this job. The alignment and braise of the two sections is the next hurdle. Cheers Dave

Great job Dave! Notoriously difficult these screens and you’ve got your solution! Well done! And no one can say it should be like this or that because they’re all different… even the spare parts it seems 🤣🤣🤣

Hi Dave, What a pita job. You will have to watch distorsion when they braise it up but they will know what they are doing. I just had some braising done on ali bronze castings and it went all over the place. Luckily i was able to bend it back but your job is much more critical as it shows every time you approach the car. Best of luck. David.

David, Your right the distortion will be a problem but the same company did my bumpers and the finish was amazing. 🤞They can do the same. Cheers Dave

Looks good Dave, but I must pull you up on PPE, proper eye protection and gloves when using the grinder, your fingers were very close to that disc.

If we could send you back in time, throw you into Jaguar coveralls and set you down on the line. I'm thinking the supervisor would walk up to you saying " You've done a good job for your first week., you're a natural with these cars. What do you think of that new Elvis song , Trouble, that just came out? "

If you remember I had a nightmare with my Ferrari 550 windscreen replacement. As a result I have two phobias…. Windscreens and curtains neither of which ever bloody fit!!!
