I'm new at this hobby, I put 4 Columbian Tetras with 2 Cory's in to small of a tank which I'm actively trying to get a bigger one asap..The Tetras as very aggressive to each other and on occasion to the Cory's. The Cory's are hiding most of the the time. Question is, are these two species a bad combo or is it just the smaller environment?
.My Winnie the Pooh Cory Cat story. My 3 Jullii Corys went in and immediately started work...a.k.a. eating. They are like little bulldogs...mostly in shape. I put a small house ornament in my tank with an open door and windows with framework pieces but no actual window glass. Feeding the fish one night, one cory was inside the house and rushed out to get his share. Not realising how fat he had gotten, he tried exiting through the window framework and Winnie the Pooh'd himself stuck. They have a stomach the size of their eye...and apparently a brain much smaller. LOL I had to remove the house with fish in it and break out all the window framing to free Rolly Polly. He survived, but for me a lesson learned.
I love cory catfish. I have peppered ( my favorite kind), bronze, albino, pandas, and some that I haven't been able to identify. They are caramel brown on top, white on the bottom, with a black stripe down each side. The people at the pet store didn't know what they were. @@romancortes4376 I googled the bandit corys and that isn't what they are. Their whole top is brown, the whole bottom is white, and the black stripe on each side is the length of the body.
Please help! I have a 150g tank (3 goldfish also but they ignore each other, fine sand & lots of hides) and I used to have 3 cories (albino bronze) and 1 died so I got 5 more making a total of 7. The 2 preexisting cories were acting very happy and brave and had eggs frequently, but now they are acting depressed and the 5 new cories aren’t making them any happier. And the one that died, died because he got trapped in a decoration that is now removed. Not sick.
Aww 😟 I am so sorry to hear that you are having troubles. I always hate losing a fish, it makes me feel soooo bad. As much as I think goldfish and corydoras would be a great looking aquarium combo, goldfish actually harass corydoras 😵 They're known to nip at their fins and even kill them. Also, I believe that most corydoras (depending on the species) require warmer waters than goldfish need. In saying that, I keep my albinos at 21°c-23°c. Maybe you could find a few more and get them a home of their own 💙 I have a corydoras only tank with all different kinds and its definitely my fave I hope I helped you a little. Let me know how everything is going 😊
It will depend on your filtration system, whether your tank is planted, and whether you have other inhabitants in the tank. And as she said, you should give a each type a proper school, so in a 20 gallon, you would be pretty much maxed out with a school of each of those two types. Aqadvisor website says 98% stocking level for a 20g high tank, based on 6 of each of them. Emeralds are a bit larger, getting over 3 inches each, so just 6 of those was 64% stocking. With good filtration, consistent maintenance, and some live plants, you might feel comfortable to push the stocking to include a small school of something very tiny for the upper tank level - chili rasboras, ember tetras, or neon green rasboras (microdevario kubotai), for example. Or to add a moderately sized and friendly centrepiece fish - I have a honey gourami with my schools of pygmy corys and napoensis corys in a 20g, and a happy mild mannered betta in a well planted 30g with trilineatus and green laser corys.
Helllo 🙋♀️ You can buy something like Hikari sinking pellets. They also soften slowly so your fish cant eat it instantly. Most bottom feeders need their own source of food so they don't get too hungry. Sometimes if I feed my corydoras other foods as a snack I will place the food at the bottom instead of waiting for it to sink 😊
If you're trying to feed flakes, as well as frozen and pellets, try holding a small pinch of flakes under the water and swirl it around. That way it sinks faster.
You left out the most important tip. You must have a lid, as Corys regulate their swim bladder by gulping air from the surface. They do this very quickly and can jump out of the water/tank when they do)
I am worried about my two new albino cories. They won't eat. I have tried flakes, shrimp pellets, algae wafers, blood worms, cucumber, and betta pellets. I am scared. Please help!
Oh no 😔 How are they doing now? Sometimes new fish don't eat because they are sick/they have parasites. I've been fortunate enough to have never had this problem, but I know there is parasite meds you can buy at most of your local fish stores. Wishing you and them the best 💙
@@JillsFishRoom They are still alive and seem to be digging through the sand looking for food, but they won't eat the food i am giving them. i don't see any signs of disease
Hey Ryan 😊 I wish I could tell you yes. The reason corydoras need a 15+ gallon aquarium is because they really prefer groups of 6 or more. You might be able to pull off pygmy corydoras if you only keep 6 but they are a little more expensive if that matters ☺️ I think a betta corydoras combo is a great idea as long as your betta is not temperamental. Corydoras can be all over the place sometimes as well and could stress out a betta. Good luck! 👍
Wow you have amazing tanks of nice fishes . I am definitely going to enjoy all your videos . Thanks to @juliettetheshihtzu for the email . Your bell is turn on so I don’t miss your new videos .
I’m so sad, I didn’t know they like to socialize and I only have one ): I’ve had him for a very long time. Is there a reason you have to get the same species? I’d like to be able to tell him apart from the others
In the wild, they live in very large schools, dozens and hundreds of one type of cory, so it's basically just in their nature to feel more comfortable and "happy" in a group with other fish of their kind. Depending on the area, there may be more than one type around. And they will school to some degree with other types of corys, but not to the same degree as with their own type. So in the wild, even if there are two groups, they'll tend to stick with their own kind. It makes them feel safer, and they'll display more playful behaviours together, and potentially even breeding behaviour! If you got more of the same type, you could end up with baby corys! Many types of corydoras can live a very long time (10-20 yrs?), so you would be significantly changing the course of his or her life by adding to the school, even bringing it up to 3-5, though 6 or more is better if the tank can handle that increased load. My smallest group of corys is a rarer type, but I bought all 5 that the store had, and have feelers out to try to find more. Otherwise, I like to grab at least 8. It's likely you'd be able to tell your current one apart simply by size, but if he has markings, a close look will show they are distinct. For example, with my trilineatus (12 in the school), one has a little round bullseye on her side, one has much longer stripes, one has very dense, compact squiggles on top of his head, etc. Now, I will admit I can't tell my pygmy corys apart! They're just too small! 😂 If you happen to have the bronze or albino corys, those are usually the same thing, and I've heard they school together quite well (supposedly looking more at body shape than colour to identify each other?) Hope that helps, and good luck with your cory(s)!

Miss your vids Jill
How are you able to post a story with under 1k subscribers! I just fell In love with albino corydora I now have 5 of them
.My Winnie the Pooh Cory Cat story. LOL
I had to remove the house with fish in it and break out all the window framing to free Rolly Polly.
I have spent hours watching cory videos and Googling to try to identify them. If anyone knows please let me know.
Peppered cories are a kind of cory I want to try to spawn! :) I like how big they get.
Youve peaked my interest about your mysterious cories. Do you have any pictures of them? I'd love to see a pic 😁
@@JillsFishRoom I'm not sure how to send a picture. I am technology challenged. I will ask one of my teenagers to help me when they get home.
@@amandawitherspoon3988 I believe they are the Bandit Corydoras(Cory Metae).
@@romancortes4376 I googled the bandit corys and that isn't what they are. Their whole top is brown, the whole bottom is white, and the black stripe on each side is the length of the body.
@@amandawitherspoon3988 try searching for pygmy(pygmaeus) or skunk(arcuatus) corydoras.
Maybe you could find a few more and get them a home of their own 💙 I have a corydoras only tank with all different kinds and its definitely my fave
I hope I helped you a little. Let me know how everything is going 😊
Can you school different kinds together? Like, emeralds and albinos? How many is the minimum for a twenty gallon?
My other fishes eat all the food and the food doesn't reach down. How do I feed them?
Helllo 🙋♀️ You can buy something like Hikari sinking pellets. They also soften slowly so your fish cant eat it instantly.
Most bottom feeders need their own source of food so they don't get too hungry.
Sometimes if I feed my corydoras other foods as a snack I will place the food at the bottom instead of waiting for it to sink 😊
Feed pellets to the bottom feeders.
If you're trying to feed flakes, as well as frozen and pellets, try holding a small pinch of flakes under the water and swirl it around. That way it sinks faster.
👍👍! Thanks

Thank you so much 💕
Social Avocado I’ve had my albino corys for about 2 years now :)
Love your channel name btw
You left out the most important tip. You must have a lid, as Corys regulate their swim bladder by gulping air from the surface. They do this very quickly and can jump out of the water/tank when they do)
I never had Cory's jump out of tanks and I've had different types of Cory's.
How many albinos can I keep in a 13 gallon, if any?
Wow i love you...oops i mean Corys
Is it possible to have these inside a 5 gallon tank with a betta fish inside it?
Hey Ryan 😊 I wish I could tell you yes. The reason corydoras need a 15+ gallon aquarium is because they really prefer groups of 6 or more. You might be able to pull off pygmy corydoras if you only keep 6 but they are a little more expensive if that matters ☺️ I think a betta corydoras combo is a great idea as long as your betta is not temperamental.
Corydoras can be all over the place sometimes as well and could stress out a betta. Good luck! 👍
I have to mine in a 10 gallon
Wow you have amazing tanks of nice fishes . I am definitely going to enjoy all your videos . Thanks to @juliettetheshihtzu for the email . Your bell is turn on so I don’t miss your new videos .
Plz suggest me what is better....bare bottom or gravels? For Oscars and severum
If you happen to have the bronze or albino corys, those are usually the same thing, and I've heard they school together quite well (supposedly looking more at body shape than colour to identify each other?)
Hope that helps, and good luck with your cory(s)!

Not crazy but it is. Do you know how I can clean it? I heard it’s just the cycle etc but I’m unsure too.

In the wild cory catfish live on gravel
Corydoras people are so uptight. I'm in corydoras groups and you would he surprised the DRAMA. I say, use any substrate you want as long as it doesn't injure your fish, including their barbels.
Cories might have a quality of life improvement if they're on sand, but literally who knows, they can't tell us 🥲
@@JillsFishRoom got it Jill and I'm not trying to attack you. We all have different methods of keeping fish and sometimes we have disagreements that's natural.
