I ordered those white worm colony or starter on Etsy. A guy sells them for $10. You won’t need to buy more unless you don’t care for them. They are harmless white worms. You feed them bread, yogurt though you have to remove leftover yogurt as it will rot eventually. Also feed yeast in warm water, or fish food etc. after a few days of feeding your colony will explode, so had to move to a much bigger box, then you wait after feeding for the eggs to hatch again. They live luckily in normal household temperatures. I think mine do better in the dark, don’t know if it’s true. As long as you add new coco coir brick compressed soil to give your colony more bedding it will continue and continue. Anyways I have one of those small glass feeding cups suction cup to the side of the tank. I put the worms in it, and they will wiggle out, they can live under water for quite a while. They don’t like super wet bedding as they will try and escape through the top holes. I put some filter rocks at the bottom to absorb water in my bigger box. The cups has 4 holes or so, the fish (ember tetras and endler/guppy males all wait in anticipation of worms to wiggle out. They actually love to see me because of the worms. Then the Julii or false ones really, will come flying smelling them. (I don’t think but maybe the Siamese algae eaters eat some too, but they are more nervous.). They don’t catch them in mid water, they wait for the ones that fall to the ground, the ones the fish miss. They (Julii) act like they can’t see well, but use their whiskers to find them and then they slurp them in. They will continue to wiggle for a long time. I don’t know how long they can live in the water, because mine will always find them wherever they fall. They do smell them because they come flying in from where ever they were investigating or sleeping in a dish. It’s one of my favorite parts of the day to watch them all get excited to see the white worms. The tiny tetras/endlers will swim around with this tiny but giant worm to them hanging out of their mouths.
Just got the first fish today for my new tank and first on my list was Corys I only got 4 but will get more as soon as it’s a good time to add more. They are in with 10 Harlequin Rasboras. I’ll make sure I get more of these Corys next time I add fish to my tank. I think these are Julii ones. I’m loving watching them.
Just got into the hobby and Sterbai Corys were one the first fish in my tank - your observations are spot on! I follow all your advice, including using sinking pellets, only keeping them in a group of 6 or more, having a filter that gives a decent current, providing hiding places with driftwood caves and rocks, and making sure the lighting wasn't too intense. The result was a fun group of lfish who love exploring the tank and snuffling through the substrate for their pellets! Such an adorable species and I will always try to include them when I can!

Mine like to sleep in food dishes I hang with suction cups. I have one cup, then a moss shelf then another feeder cup all in a straight line in one of corner. They love piling into them and sleeping. Or sleeping on moss balls, or moss shelf, they love it all. So do the Siamese algae eaters, and at least one endless who loves sleeping on a leaf.
Oh I have one bowl up near the top, then the moss ledge and another bowl, they sleep in all of them plus I have a green leaf suction cup like for bettas, Julii or at least the false ones love sleeping on all 3; but…can’t forget the merino balls, they love soft places to sleep. But I have to say in the top bowl I feed the algae tabs that suction cup to the side of the glass is their favorite. They will all pick at it, if it falls it falls in the top cup which they will sleep on, even a pile of snails if they come up. But my funny story is if they are startled, they look like the road runner cartoon in the top bowl shooting any food that filled in the dish from the stuck on algae tab everywhere trying to swim out of the bowl. They swing their bodies side to side like they are trying to get their running feet under them and it’s hilarious! I am always like sorry, stop your shooting the food everywhere! lol but doesn’t matter between them, the fish and the snails they will hunt that food down they shot out. Just picture it in your mind, they are goofs! My, false Julii (which I don’t mind because they live longer anyways) are getting huge, my daughters still look like tiny babies, the protein worm I feed are making them big! Well so to speak because they don’t get really big. Maybe 2 “ but nice and plump, very healthy. Are they dimorphic ? One is much bigger then the others…But they will easily sleep 5 in a dish! Sometimes else where but they love to snuggle! 🥰🤣😀
The don't use bright light tip is quite good. When I first bought my first corydoras fish I had bright light for the aquarium and they stayed hidden quite often. In a day I switched the light to a less bright light and now I can see them often / daily.
I've had fish for 50 years and I disagree about keeping Cory's in schools. I've had so many tanks in my life with one cory and they were very happy and lived 6 to 7 years for me. My favorite Cory is the Jullii. I am glad you mentioned the temperature for Cory's I've seen so many pet stores that have the temperature to high for them. Have you ever seen a fish tank with Panda Cory's at a pet store and they are all or half dead? This is because they really like a 68 to 70 temperature. Thanks for the video and yes Cory's are great!
Thanks for your comment! Interesting observation about single Corys. I ALWAYS kept them in schools. And I unfortunately have to agree with the pet stores problem - they are often 'boiling' Corys in their tanks. And not only them but other fish as well :/

@@loveisforever9739 Hi, It really depends on how many other fish you put in the tank. Temperature wise it depends on the different Cory's that you want some like 68 to 70 most like 74 to 76 some like 78 to 80. What other fish are you going to put with them?

Good tips. I take the frozen cubes of blood and tubifex worms and even FBS and bury it just under the sand at the front of the tank. My Cories love to dig out the worms as the cube thaws. The other fish in the tank are attracted to the digging Cories and pick up the worms as well. This way, the Cories are fed first. Plus it’s their natural behaviour.

I have 6 albino Cory's in a 75 gal tank with black diamond blasting sand I see your Cory's on pea gravel & you also said fine sand or fine gravel would you consider pea gravel a good substrate for them ?
Hi. Pea gravel is not that bad, but also not perfect. It's good that it has no sharp edges, but after some testing I would say that it is still a little to big. So I have that I regret using it in my tank with Corys. I'm moving completely from pea gravel in all my tanks that have Corys and slowly moving to sand.

So I went to go pick up 2 ember tetras but my local shop didn't have any. They did have one solo Venezuelan red sailfin. So I went ahead and bought him. He has just been searching and going up and down the walls..

Yes, you should try to feed Corys directly. I always try to feed 2 different types of food at the same time. Sinking pellets AND flakes so the other fish are focused on flakes when pellets are sinking. And if this is not working I was sometimes using long glass tube that could reach the bottom and placed the food in there. This way you can "direct" the food through the tube straight to the bottom and other fish have no chance to get it before it already sits on the bottom. You can google "shrimp feeding tube" to see what I mean. But this is really extreme scanario ;)
this is almost my dream tank. group of corys, the rummy nose tetras. the only thing missing is the blue ram. i'm far from that but trying to learn as much as i can. just got a 10 gallon. 3 months down a youtube rabbit hole and have yet to actually fill it up yet. don't want to go too big too soon and fall on my face.
Got a sterbai that is really pale. Unlike the others. Gave it a few days but it still looks like that. Ended up quarantining it and giving it meds. Waiting to see what happens.
My pale cory responded to a very gradual temp increase. About one degree per day, up to 78 degrees. Also try not to make shadows over the tank as you feed them or do other maintenance. This frightens them as in the wild they are picked off by birds from above. Does your Cory have places to hide? They like that. Best wishes on his full recovery.
I just picked up a great bargain of Facebook 90 l. My first tank, have my heart set on Corys but don't have a means of washing sand outdoors, any tips on washing sand or recommendations recommendations for what sand to buy ( I live in UK) would be appreciated.
That is awesome! I always rinse my sand in a bucket that I place in a bathtub/shower. And then just start rinsing it until the water gets clean. And you can buy it on Amazon, or any local fish store. Just buy something that says river sand - those are often the best and safe for aquariums. NEVER coloured, just natural, small sand (~1.5mm).
lol your substrate looks like a collection of tiny jewels, looks so smooth and round. Did you put it in some kind of metallic shaker to polish them like that? Most rock I tried/looked at in the LFS i could spot sharp edges on enough content that I didnt want to buy it.
Haha. This is just generic coarse river gravel. But you are totally right - sharp edges are bad, especially for Corydoras. But you can look for bigger river sand or small gravel. RIVER is the key word here - those types of gravel/sand will always have very smooth edges.

I would use Sinking Catfish Pellets right AFTER you feed tetras with flakes (both in small amounts). And if this doesn't work maybe consider feeding tube? Just the ones for shrimp.
Corys prefer diet rich in protein, sa I use algae wafers only few times a month. And dried worms are difficult to sink, so I sometimes soak them in small container before putting into the tank.
Petco sells them. If there isn't one there, then check another local fish store to see. I bought the exact same kind he has and my panda cories DO go crazy for them. My cherry shrimp even more so.
I enjoyed this. I have some sterbais that just had about 30 babies when I moved a few months ago. I love all corys though. Also, my platys had babies at the very same time (probably at least 30 survived). Haha. I cant give the platys away fast enough. I have so many! :) This video was very informative. Thank You. Put corys in a well planted tank if you want to see it in its most natural behaviour. A dither fish also helps to make them less skittish and makes them appear more often in your tank.

@@AquascapingCube Ive been told that when cories cant blend in to the substrate, they become extremely stressed out. (its from a fish forum, the same ones that recommend 1 betta per 10 gallons of water and say fluval stratum caused nutrient issues)
Hi. I personally never had any problems with dark substrate. As long as I provide some floating plants and hiding spots (to minimize the stress). Besides there are also black types Corydoras - then what? They will not blend into light substrate etc :) I'm not saying that it's not true, those guys might be correct - I just have different experience. And the same goes for my fishkeeping friends. And regarding stocking: 10 gallon is a bit small to keep bigger Corys long term. I used those tanks only for breeding (short term). In 10 gal you can put 6 pygmy, but only if you have very calm betta (they might potentially be aggressive). For Pandas - it will be too small. Good luck!
@@AquascapingCube Im planning to have TONS of plants. (mainly just 2 big plants, aponogeton and hornwort, supported by driftwood with moss and java fern, a large anubias, and some amazon frogbit.) Many broken lines of sight to hopefully minimize aggression, and I will try to pick a plakat calm betta like girl talks fish did.

Im.a huge cory fan myself. I've got 9 different species in 2 tanks. My favorite is the Fairy corydoras. It's not widely available. It's sometimes sold as a "red spot" corydoras, but I have zero reason why. I can't even find anything on the internet about a red spot cory.
@AquascapingCube one of my fairys died yesterday and my bristlenose evidently ate it. He had been hiding in a cave for a few days and wouldn't even come out to eat. No other fish was impacted. Very sad, because they are my favorite
I dont understand why my pandas are all over scattered and not together. I feed em with flakes. Sinking pellets and worms. I dont think they like that tho. I added em a day ago. Perhaps is that. They have lots of plants. Rocks and caves. 90-gallon tank . Temperature is 22°C. and i have 6 pandas. They have a normal light and the led moon type
Try spacing out how often u feed them. Like every other day or less. And only use one type of food at a time. They'll come together like at a dinner table when u feed them.
It would be ok for the ones that like warmer water like: Orange Laser or Sterbai. And 16g for neon tetras: I think it will be ok, but don't put much more fish in there :)

I change 10-15% weekly. Sometimes even every 2 weeks. I don't focus on TDS, but on average I have it around 180-200.

This way you can "direct" the food through the tube straight to the bottom and other fish have no chance to get it before it already sits on the bottom. You can google "shrimp feeding tube" to see what I mean. But this is really extreme scanario ;)

I always buy online. In Europe it's not really a problem. But also they are available in many local fish shops.
this is almost my dream tank. group of corys, the rummy nose tetras. the only thing missing is the blue ram. i'm far from that but trying to learn as much as i can. just got a 10 gallon. 3 months down a youtube rabbit hole and have yet to actually fill it up yet. don't want to go too big too soon and fall on my face.

Got a sterbai that is really pale. Unlike the others. Gave it a few days but it still looks like that. Ended up quarantining it and giving it meds. Waiting to see what happens.
My pale cory responded to a very gradual temp increase. About one degree per day, up to 78 degrees. Also try not to make shadows over the tank as you feed them or do other maintenance. This frightens them as in the wild they are picked off by birds from above. Does your Cory have places to hide? They like that. Best wishes on his full recovery.
I just picked up a great bargain of Facebook 90 l. My first tank, have my heart set on Corys but don't have a means of washing sand outdoors, any tips on washing sand or recommendations recommendations for what sand to buy ( I live in UK) would be appreciated.
That is awesome! I always rinse my sand in a bucket that I place in a bathtub/shower. And then just start rinsing it until the water gets clean. And you can buy it on Amazon, or any local fish store. Just buy something that says river sand - those are often the best and safe for aquariums. NEVER coloured, just natural, small sand (~1.5mm).
lol your substrate looks like a collection of tiny jewels, looks so smooth and round. Did you put it in some kind of metallic shaker to polish them like that? Most rock I tried/looked at in the LFS i could spot sharp edges on enough content that I didnt want to buy it.
Haha. This is just generic coarse river gravel. But you are totally right - sharp edges are bad, especially for Corydoras. But you can look for bigger river sand or small gravel. RIVER is the key word here - those types of gravel/sand will always have very smooth edges.

I would use Sinking Catfish Pellets right AFTER you feed tetras with flakes (both in small amounts). And if this doesn't work maybe consider feeding tube? Just the ones for shrimp.

Corys prefer diet rich in protein, sa I use algae wafers only few times a month. And dried worms are difficult to sink, so I sometimes soak them in small container before putting into the tank.

Local fish shop or I buy them on-line. They are very easy to transport, so there is no issue with buying them over internet.

I use bloodworms and Enchytraeus albidus (White Worm)
Petco sells them. If there isn't one there, then check another local fish store to see. I bought the exact same kind he has and my panda cories DO go crazy for them. My cherry shrimp even more so.

Put corys in a well planted tank if you want to see it in its most natural behaviour. A dither fish also helps to make them less skittish and makes them appear more often in your tank.
plants with roots in the substrate reduce the space on the bottom for fish swimming.

No, it should be fine! Just use the natural one and nothing with black-coloring chemicals.

@@AquascapingCube Ive been told that when cories cant blend in to the substrate, they become extremely stressed out. (its from a fish forum, the same ones that recommend 1 betta per 10 gallons of water and say fluval stratum caused nutrient issues)
Hi. I personally never had any problems with dark substrate. As long as I provide some floating plants and hiding spots (to minimize the stress). Besides there are also black types Corydoras - then what? They will not blend into light substrate etc :) I'm not saying that it's not true, those guys might be correct - I just have different experience. And the same goes for my fishkeeping friends. And regarding stocking: 10 gallon is a bit small to keep bigger Corys long term. I used those tanks only for breeding (short term). In 10 gal you can put 6 pygmy, but only if you have very calm betta (they might potentially be aggressive). For Pandas - it will be too small. Good luck!

Many broken lines of sight to hopefully minimize aggression, and I will try to pick a plakat calm betta like girl talks fish did.

I just keep all my cories super schwartzi pulcher green laser sterbai S barbatus and Adolfo all in 73 to 75. They are all very happy.

Im.a huge cory fan myself. I've got 9 different species in 2 tanks. My favorite is the Fairy corydoras. It's not widely available. It's sometimes sold as a "red spot" corydoras, but I have zero reason why. I can't even find anything on the internet about a red spot cory.
True Atropersonatus can be difficult to get. I never had one. And Red spot Cory? Never even heard about it :P
@AquascapingCube one of my fairys died yesterday and my bristlenose evidently ate it. He had been hiding in a cave for a few days and wouldn't even come out to eat. No other fish was impacted. Very sad, because they are my favorite

I dont understand why my pandas are all over scattered and not together. I feed em with flakes. Sinking pellets and worms. I dont think they like that tho. I added em a day ago. Perhaps is that.
They have lots of plants. Rocks and caves. 90-gallon tank . Temperature is 22°C. and i have 6 pandas. They have a normal light and the led moon type
Try spacing out how often u feed them. Like every other day or less. And only use one type of food at a time. They'll come together like at a dinner table when u feed them.

It would be ok for the ones that like warmer water like: Orange Laser or Sterbai. And 16g for neon tetras: I think it will be ok, but don't put much more fish in there :)
