I’ve learned through years of project jumping, finishing a game only requires 1 important rule. That rule is sticking it out through the massive parts of the development process that feel like work, which always come sooner than expected. Only then can you reap the rewards of a finished game, and be happy. With that being said, I really want to play your dino survival game! :D
Found your channel from the video you did with Mashup, watched through a couple videos and damnnn this channel is incredible! Awesome work, and for this video it’s very inspiring for someone starting out with game design and for looking into game jams
Hi sir! I have a small idea for a mechanic in Dewdrop dynasty, it's about adding temporary wings that you get in the scene to continue, simply you fight a winged enemy, get his wings and try to go as fast as possible to pass a big gap or a narrow tunnel with a lot of spikes, and the time for it is short but enough to pass or continue the level, hope you liked it
Wow just discovered your channel, you are the internet historian of us gamedevs! really fantastic stuff, I like your creative ideas and you are totally right, best learning experiences are the games we never finish!
Thanks for the great content! Would love to see some tutorial series from you, I just discovered your devlogs and I think you would excel at them! Especially for Godot, there’s not quite as much out there
@@Goodgis Only problem is the controls on windows, I constantly try to jump and end up dashing into enemies. Tip for future games, add eye frames on dash.
Nice one, I'm currently doing a jam but I spend 4 of the 6 days on art, I think I might have severely overscoped for the Jam, especially with the art style but at least I'm learning so I guess that's what really matters.
"what if it has a sword instead of a gun, like your typical metroidvania".... you do know what the "Vania" part of metroidvania refers to right? Joking aside though, great video. I've been wanting to make a metroidvania for ages but they just seem so big and daunting, so this is very inspirational.
Love your videos man, i have been trying to finish my own game for a while and i keep going back inforth about it. I watch videos like these hoping that they will help me get off my ass and get something done, but it always feels like i take one step forward and three steps back. But i digress, let me ask you the one questions that i have the most problems with. When you are designing your map, do you follow the keep everything on one layout approach or do you have them jumping from layout to layout for the different biomes? I have heard many different positions on this just wondering your thoughts. Great work on all your stuff so far thanks for sharing it all with us. all the best.
i think guns and melee weapons are just as typical as eachother in metroid vanias, some even give you both like the MMZ games (whether those classify is up for debate, just the example i can think of from the top of my head)
I plan to make a game later this year is to start making my dream game but I lost confidence every day but something amazing happened yesterday my crush volunteered to help me with developing and I was heavily inspired that day, and I think I will start developing next week 'cause my mother is using my laptop:')
great video as always. One question though, in a lot of your devlogs you show level design using a numbered grid, it looks like each block represents a room or screen, what software is that? i'm designing a metroidvania and am having trouble with layout and that looks like it would help a ton. 😁
Hey Goodgis, So, as I was watching the video, I really like the art style of the game *King of Burgers*. And I just wanted to know if the game's out or is it still in development. And if it's still in development, please do tell me when it is probably going to come out because I made fan art for it and I wanted to mention the game. -Artefic
oh yeah right ok this might be a bit of scope creep but maybe add a level editor in dewdrop dynasty for players to make levels and you might use it like if you made it easier to make levels in that the normal tiles and stuff in godot
@@Goodgis i just remembered it might also still save time if it was done good enough maybe but yeah idk it would just be like a cool thing most of all that would make us be able to make levels and post them and idk i personally like level editors in game i think xD

Hey goodgis! Do you use construct 2 or 3? If you use construct 2, why do you choose a older version?
Doesn’t he use godot?
I believe he uses couple engines, in the scope creep video he used construct 2 and godot or gamemaker
