I have a black ‘89 YJ Laredo. Let me just say.. Holy crap this islander is in way better condition than mine! I need to do some paint work and I plan on repainting the front grille black to match the body (laredo came with chrome but it wore off from rad. heat and the elements. I plan on getting a stainless grille in case I want the OE look.) I also want to replace the halogens with LEDs so it’s safer for night driving.

I think the chrome grill was installed in front of the original metal. I had a black YJ and just removed the chrome grill to expose the painted grill behind it.

@ Yeah I think that’s what my dad said. I’m not too confident in chrome paint so a stainless grille would be my better option. Also the synchros are shot for 1st and 2nd so they’re a pain to shift between. Any recommendations? I could just get a new AX-15 since it’s the 4.2l.

@ I’ve never had a problem with the transmissions so I have any advice on that. But goodluck and thanks for watching my videos 👍

This video shows it’s still cheaper to fix an old one then it is to buy a new over priced car.

Love your no nonsense approach. Just like the Mike Fn Garage channel. Sticking to a project all the way to completion. Instructive and entertaining. So many channels out there with barn find rescues, power washes and “will it runs” that never amount to actual projects.

Good call on replacing that windshield seal.
Once you pop those factory seals, they never seal up right again. It took me until late into my second YJ to figure that out 😂😂

It should only thing that really kills jeeps are the people who own them that do the cutting into them to put big tires on them and 500 after market parts that are not needed.

Cerakote makes a wipe-on trim restorer that may work for it. It does a fantastic job if you work it in really well and clean the parts thoroughly. It is very much a get it right the first time kind of product. When I applied it to my Tj's fenders, it did a great job but I was a little stingy with the wipes and there's visible smearing if you're five feet away and closer. If I had used more of it to let it soak in on each fender and worked it a bit more I think they would have looked absolutely brand new. Heard great things about the longevity of the product as well.
