I was so terribly moved watching this video, as I am myself deeply involved with the
Polynesian culture. Girls, you are the guardians of your culture, be proud of it. Keep it up.
And to your beautiful Kapuna (teacher), so many Mahalo, you are wonderful.
    Aloha to you all.

I got a little choked up @ 15:35, when Tiffany said "...and I love it. It's part of my like soul, it's part of my spirit. I do other kinds of dancin' and I'd still come back to this one. It's a spiritual thing for me. It's... this one is closer to my heart and it's closer to my heritage than any other types of dance...so, I can't live without it." This is like music to my ears.
Thank you everyone involved for your great effort to keep our culture and our heritage alive.

I share the same sensitivities and passions as Tiffany. I admire her taking up dancing and continuing the life of Cambodian culture just makes her a true Cambodian like any other peers(including myself!) I have also been scrutinzed for not being the typical size of a tiny Cambodian as well or not being Cambodian enough. I think we all come in all sizes and forms but technically we're all in the same vein.

I think the point of this doc was to follow Tiffany's struggles in becoming an ideal apsara, not just the "end" product. What made this doc interesting was the emotions and struggles behind the dancer. Keep in mind that this IS a documentary, to which the documentarian cannot manipulate or control his subject's behaviors/outcomes, especially since she WAS originally casted as lead.

I wish we have more people like you involve in our culture, whether you look like the rest or not it does not matter it's the hearth and the effort that count.
I also wish there is a teacher who can teach like that here in Fresno; I want my children to be dancers and they want to do it too but we don't have the luxury here.
Keep up the good work and don't let pressure hold up your life; pressure test is part of life.

Tiffany, you are very lucky you grew up in a great Cambodian community. Here where I live there's so many Cambodian Americans who won't take the time to help preserve Cambodia. Ever since I was little I've always wanted to dance and about 4 years ago I started (I'm 18 years old now). We don't have a teacher here, we learned from videos. But throughout the years many kids just stopped because it was embarrassing to them.

At the part where Tiffany broke down. Girl I know EXACTLY how you feel. When my mom's friend was pushing me to the limit I felt frustrated and I felt like giving up, but I didn't. I wanted to do it and I will do it until the end of it.

@ThatxStaphyy I used what I learned and used it in the dances that I learn from videos. Now, as a one person dancer there's only so little dances that I can do. Robam Joun Por, Robam Neary Chea Chour, and Robam Phoung Neary, but I want to learn MORE. My mom's friend said that you are a rare Cambodian child because there's not a lot of you who WANTS to dance. It's usually parents forcing their child to dance. Now, if someone wants to dance, they WANT to dance not forced to then I will teach them.

@ThatxStaphyy For me, I wanted more! I wanted to learn ever Cambodian dance there is, but without a teacher it's hard. It's hard being a one person dancer when nobody here wants to dance. It's hard finding kids to dance when they don't want to be apart of the Cambodian community here. My mom's friend used to dance and she said I will teach you the basics, but I will not be your teacher due to my busy schedule. So I did. I learned stretching to looking graceful.

@ThatxStaphyy I'm proud to say that I have inspired my cousin to dance. I told her I will teach her only if she WANTS to dance. As a person who doesn't have a teacher I feel that I have to work even harder to level myself with those who actually has a teacher. I may not be the greatest, but dancing Robam is my passion, my dream. And I will do it until I die knowing that I helped preserve my country's dance.

the cambodian in cali is not bad in upholding the ritual dance that allow human to merge with the devine apsara. also go to world wide web baramay dot com. to allow new baramay into our tradition.

Don't get me wrong. I'm khmer, i absolutely love khmer culture, and everything about it.. but why did she quit, it was so disappointing. it's like a fail documentary... why not follow the girl who actually fulfilled the apsara role when this one couldn't.. is it cause she's half white which is what makes her appealing to the white audience? probably...
