The Sikhs - Between India and Pakistan | DW Documentary

  • India and Pakistan traditionally have hostile relations, but there is hope on one front, at least. In order to enable the Sikhs from India to make a pilgrimage to one of their holiest shrines, a "peace corridor" has been opened between India and Pakistan. Urdu and Hindi subtitles are available.
Sikhs constitute the fourth largest religious community in India, but find themselves caught between India and Pakistan, between Hindus and Muslims. The majority of Sikhs worldwide live on the Indian subcontinent. The hostile relations between India and Pakistan since partition in 1947 meant that for decades Sikhs from India had huge obstacles to visit their holiest shrines in Pakistan.
Despite ongoing political tensions - especially concerning Kashmir - 73 years after their separation, India and Pakistan have fulfilled a promise that was made 20 years ago: on the occasion of the 550th birthday of the founder of their religion, Sikhs in India can now use a new border crossing to make a pilgrimage to the mausoleum of Guru Nanak in Kartarpur, Pakistan - four kilometers behind the border.
The Kartarpur Corridor was opened on schedule by the prime ministers of the two countries - albeit not in a joint ceremony. Both spoke of a new "Peace Corridor". The opening of the corridor on 9 November 2019, the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, was no coincidence; Indian prime minister Narendra Modi directly compared the two historic events. This documentary accompanies an Indian Sikh who goes to Pakistan for the first time as part of a very special pilgrimage, while for outsiders also providing a better understanding of Sikhs as well as India and Pakistan.
Urdu and Hindi subtitles are available.

I grew up in the bay area of California. It was so hard to understand the Indians. I remember they would say they are Punjab. But then I would hear them say they are Hindu. I moved to Oregon and I met Sikh. In college I learned Sikh are from Punjab area of India.
Now I am a geography teacher in America. I can successfully explain that you can be Punjab and be Hindu. You can be from Punjab and be Sikh. You can be Sikh and be from Pakistan. You can be Muslim and be from Punjab, India.
The world and especially the part of the world who came from other countries (like me immigrating from Eritrea, Africa to America) to grow up in America have learned a lot from going to school with the fellow immigrant Indians in America. The people of India are a blessing to the world. 🇮🇳🇺🇲🇪🇷

Because so called Sikh ism is an extension of paganism known as the Pharaonic Hinduism. They are believers of universe as the one god, not the Truth, creator of the universe and every thing in between, Alpha, The Only living Lord, Allah the merciful. They preach and practice hindrance to the truth Hinduism in deception, the denial of the truth by faith. Proof of it lays in the shape of their head gear, forming triangular shape of Pharaonic burial place in Egypt. Every one of the men claiming to be a Pharaoh, under the cover of the word Sardar.

Mani Shankar Aiyyar said: "Sikhs suffered the most due to partition"
I guess, he never heard of Bengalis.
Am a Bengali, I know what is suffering.
My family orginally held from Barrackpore (which was a township during Bengal Presidency but right now it's considered a suburb of Kolkata)
My Great- Grandfather was a police officer posted in Eastern province of Bengal (which is in Bangladesh presently) during 1930s. He was killed intentionally by a muslim dentist while performing surgery on his teeth. My grandfather was also a police officer, he was almost killed during Partition riots, but thankfully he survived. He saw most of his colleagues were killed at the hands of rioters during Partition trying to bring law and order under control. My grandfather also saved 100s of muslim and hindu families who were targeted by rioters during the refugee influx from both sides of Bengal Province.

@@ramakrishna7534 Bengalis were there since the start the world there. They were in minority, but they were there. May be migration took place, but it was because the Hindus were insecure to stay in Bangladesh as it was under Pakistan. But don't forget Bangladesh was part of the bigger Bengal then..so Bengalis were spread all around Bengal and after partition they simply came from one part of the Bengal to other part of the Bengal (under India). So technically they dint migrate to a completely new place with new language. They simply moved from one location of their home state to another location. Those Punjabis who came from the Pakistan side to Indian Punjab side are not migrants right. So even Bengalis are not migrants. It's utterly disgusting that Bengalis in North east India, even after contributing so much to the literature and economy, still have to prove their right to stay in their "once own home state" just because now new geographical names has been given to the places. And bdw by North East, I am mostly talking about border states like Tripura, Assam, and Meghalaya..

Most of them are descendants of Pakistani Punjab's Sikhs ..when bangladesh and Pakistan was a same country, many Sikhs from Pakistan's Punjab came to East Pakistan (current Bangladesh). During the 1971 war, Sikh fighters fought valiantly alongside us against the namard cowered Pakistanis .. Bangladesh Govt. has given their community full Bengali citizenship and nowadays their community can speak fluent Punjabi and Bengali. They operate some of the best North Indian restaurants in Dhaka. Guru Nanak visited Bangladesh in 1504, (Bangladesh was independent back then as the "Sultanate of Bengal") and he established a number of Gurudwaras .

Sikhs are legendary for their humanitarian spirit.
During 2021 Corona pandemic, Sikh Sardar volunteers were the first to provide food donations . And never to be forgotten: free funeral rituals for thousands of dead (infected by virus) whose corpse even their family did not want to touch.
Sikhs were the first volunteers to provide free food to homeless victims during Nepal's 2015 earthquake.
Sikhs are very generous people. They providec delicious langar meals , lovingly prepared by Sikh schoolgirls , to visitors from all faiths in their Gurudwara.
    Their generosity is praiseworthy.
    Sikhs are very courageous people.
Their valour and sacrifice in the line of military duty is legendary. Sikh warriors defeated invaders coming down from the Khyber pass. Sikh bravery was witnessed in Jullianwallah Bagh, 1947 partition, 1971 war with Pakistan and 1999 Kargil war .
    Their bravery is praiseworthy.
Sikhs are very open minded people. Straight forward and truthful, their blunt way of speaking puts them in hot waters occasionally, but that is also a sign of uncompromising sincerity. In a land full of double standards and hypocrisy, their moral integrity is praiseworthy.
Sikhs are very jovial and fun loving people.
In a land lacking sense of humour , their ability to laugh at their own charicature is praiseworthy.
    Salute ❗

    • @qus.9617
      @qus.9617 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Caste system was a form of control. Well before real-politik in Europe such as the works of Machiavelli, works such as the Arthashastra or Han Feizi already discussed or strongly encouraged the use of caste system to centralise a ruler's control. The three similarities was the pragmatic amoralism espoused over the 'sage-king', use of any means to the parth towards absolute control and centralised bureaucracy through the systems of laws; either well-deserved and impartial legal system or abitrary along the lines of real politiks.
In the Indian Arthashastra, the form of control was so complete it even advocated for the control of sex and daily duties for the success of the state and further has a lengthy discussion on the economic factors as well. In it's pragmatism it suggested the use of spies across all creeds of society to spy and report on all the castes from bureaucrats, nobles to commoners. The Arthashastra can be considered the first major book on political science and economics in history. Although it failed to fully shape India into a nation-state after the collapse of the Maurya empire it is still remarkable in it's content and at such an early stage in human history.
In Chinese legalism they wanted to separate the merchant class from the farmer class and the artisan class. Put your head down and work, don't question things. Do your work well and you will have no problems. Chinese legalism was the perfect recipe (like the Spartan culture) that favoured agriculture above all else and military meritocracy into a well-honed war machine.
