There is nothing like getting MSFS training from someone with real-life experience in the aircraft. We all want to make flight simming as realistic as possible, and knowing that your videos are based on real world experience makes them invaluable. Thank you so much for taking the time to make such high quality videos!

Yeah, I use GSX and typically turn on power, go to the weight+balance page, set payload to 0% and then fuel to something like 6000 lbs, and then I call the fuel truck and after it has arrived I hit the "Set from OFP" button and it syncs up the refueling very nicely. The weight and Balance page will also tell you your CG% if you want to use it for performance calculations.
I guess, @320SimPilot - like most of us - uses Navigraph, and this will update your Nav database according to the AIRAC cycles. If you don't want to go with a subscription, you're pretty much stuck with an outdated one.

Small tip. Under views, select HUD view instead of Pilot view. Everything is kinda the same, except for the hud being properly aligned and everything visible. Top vid otherwise.

Amazing tutorial! Thank you for providing such meaningful information in a such in-depth video. I have a question because I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or it's a bug. I use Horizon 787-9 variant, I'm trimming the airplane correctly for Take Off, but when I am airborne I cannot trim it anymore (and I assume the auto-trim takes over, that's why). The PROBLEM is that I have to push the yoke pretty forward to maintain the desired path given by the Flight Director. And when I am switching to the AP, the plane corrects its attitude violently pitching down then going back up again and then stabilize itself. It's pretty annoying.
Thank you so much for the Detailed Tutorial. Before this video i couldnt even Turn the Batteries on XD. But aren’t you supposed to turn on the “Clock” while taking off??? Or is that only if you are flying Commercially?

I was just finishing one of your 3-year-old A321 videos and I saw this one suggested. Congrats on the upgrade to a "heavy", I have flown as a pax in the B787-9, LAX to Auckland NZAA, New Zealand- where I'm originally from. Other than rather loud whining hydraulic pumps that seem to go on and off, a very quiet and smooth ride.
Hi Capt. thank you for taking the time to make these tutorial videos. I love flying the Horizon -9. Amazing distance, for a little bit shorter version of the 787 family.
Hi Captain, many thanks for posting this interesting video, much appreciated. You are an amazing instructor, the way you explain it all is simply WAAAW, nice, easy and not forced. I always enjoy your videos and I’m looking out for the others to come.
I'm flying on the 787-9 and 787-8 with TUI on December 12th to Jamaica for a cruise and then a holiday in Jamaica, Yes I'm excited for the holiday, but I'm just as excited to be flying long haul on a Dreamliner. These tutorials are perfect as I'm trying to fly the route in the sim before I travel. Thanks for all the content and your dedication to us simmers. Have you finished with the Podcasts? I rather enjoyed them, seeing what pilots do/think, especially as I work for RR (34 years service), as a NDT Inspector.
Thanks for the great video, it’s great to hear a real 787 pilot tuition, I have been learning to fly the 787 since your 1st video, and this video is another massive help, so thank you and I’m looking forward to learning more from you.
Highly doubt you're a real 787 pilot kid. This is the one of the most senior airplanes, which EVERYONE wants to fly. Pilots who actually get to fly it have thousands of flying hours and they are a very small, elite group of pilots. The Internet is a paradise for liars, and I think I've found another one.
Just a Question , in my PMDG 747 there is a button with APP , VOR ; MAP and Plan , where in the 787 is the APP button on the pilots side , in the 747 the button is on the left side of TFC
Absolutely outstanding video. Nice pace and brilliant explanations. Looking forward to part 2. Doesn’t seem nearly as scary coming from the bus already. Thanks for your time and effort in making these videos. Greatly appreciated.
Curious question: why would Boeing engineers want to bother the captain with the decision to turning on/off the IFE PASS SEATS and create a switch for this on the overhead ? It seems this is something that can be handled by the crew and not a safety aspect with legal repercussions for the captain?
Great question! There are some checklists in non normal situations where that switch may need to be pressed to remove power to the IFE in the cabin. A very unusual event fortunately!
Yes I am up in the air many many thanks for your astounding videos. Things always seem to fall into place when you explain things. Cannot wait for the next. 🤗🤗
Thanks so much for your work on this. I'm still learning the ins & outs of the Airbus planes but I do want to learn the 787's as well since I have all three versions. Just a couple questions arose watching this: 1. I did not see how you activated the push back. Since the 787 does not seem to have the commends on the EFB as the Airbus A320's have, how do you connect the jetway, as well as activating the tug for push back? Do you use the built-in Asobo tools, or GSX Pro? 2. I plan to use my Bravo throttle for the Boeings. However, I'm confused where I physically put the throttles for take off if I use the TOGA button in the sim. I assume full forward. What if using less than full power. The Thrustmaster Airbus has the indents for MCT but the Bravo does not. Wondering where I move the physical throttles on the Bravo after take off when the auto-throttle kicks in. I'm concerned that if I move the Bravo throttles back, will that disconnect the A/T in the sim? Any thoughts? Thanks again.
@320SimPilot I learned at the civil aviation school i'm in, that Derated Thrust is meant to be used on contaminated runways, since Flex Thrust isn't usable on wet runway unless AFM allows it. My question would be, how do you use the different thrusts settings usually? Is it different in the 787 from the A320? Thank you so much for your time on those videos. And hope you'll take time to answer me. Take care
When setting the performance data on - runway conditions has numerous options to pick from. Can you explain what conditions qualify for each option? Obviously dry, wet, ice. But can you give any more detail? Also - what does each option do “more than give you different power ratings” any more explanation? Thanks! Love the videos would love more in depth and could listen to you talk about the stuff you deal with every day! Super informative!
In real life (I know you're not trying to replicate real life here) would you turn the APU on this early? I ask as you look at European charts, like Heathrow for example, and in the charts unless over or under certain temps you cannot turn on the APU untill very close to push back time. But does this happen in reality?
Have you tried the Horizon sim 787-9? I wonder if the trim is accurate there. Could you check it please as real life pilot please? First of all the trim the aircraft calculates on the ground is usually between 4-5 it shows in the outside view value of -40 or -50 trim - in my opinion this is wrong - I always counter that by setting it to "my trim" which is 6.5-7 - then the outside view instruments shows -18 to -22 % of trim. With the trim original (calculated) value the aircraft climbs really rapidly and at some point the trim is so "strong" that even full forward pressure wont level up the aircraft. I fixed this my setting it to the 6.5-7 trim value like I said, but after take off if I just hit the trim up or down it seems that it resets to the calculated trim and the aircraft climbs rapidly. I'm 100 % sure it is wrong, but unfortunately I'm not real pilot to be able to confirm. So if you have time. Could you take a look please at horizon sim 787-9 and do one take off and tell me if it is completely broken or accurate? Thanks.
Can anyone tell me how to ensure the Squawk number once entered doesn't get changed in mid flight as seems to happen during one's flight in a 787. This causes BeyonATC to respond with a no frequency message:( and none of the frequencies listed now seem to apply.
Hi am just getting to grips with the dreamliner 787-10 but having issues with all the screens going dark as i have set up the route in the CDU and i have been having problems on final approch with it deleting the route on final approch. Am on Xbox. And some times it puts the screens dark as i taxi out to a runway and it deletes the flight plan so i just wondered if i have missed something or is there a bug with it. Kind regards
Great tutorial just what is needed thank you. Though I've noticed with the horizon 787-9 with the CG which gives you the stab trim number. It seems to be incorrect. Example of a flight I did earlier today the CG was 6 and in takeoff performance calculations gave me a trim number of 9.25 though upon takeoff when V2 call out the plane did not take off. It took more speed which I'm pretty was due to incorrect CG to trim calculations.
Im trying to save up some money to buy the versions of MSFS the 787 is in, can anybody tell the 787 is in deluxe version or the premium deluxe version?
Thanks for the video man, so everytime I do a flight plan its automatic and the origin and destination always pops up in the CDU how do you do it so I can just manually put everything my self?
On the the real one, wonder how long mouse program last for how many different pilots are using it ? How many times mechanics have to replace it, cause it wears out.
That was an excellent video! I taught on the 787 for 3 years for the manufacturer, but never flew the jet on the line. I am more of a 757/767/747-400,-8 guy. I am just converting from P3Dv4 to MSFT 2020. so a good review of the 787 is desired since I had a 44 year aviation career as a Pilot/Instructor/Check Airmen/FAA Examiner, now retired. I do wish they had simulated the use of the Rotary Cursor Control and the Trackpad so the impression to most is that the CDU is a touchscreen. Also, I am surprised the VSD is not available. That is such a nice display on these big screens. At 24:40 in the video, when you put in 340 for the CRZ ALT on the PERF INIT page, that will not generate an EXEC light. Very enjoyable video, if you are not an instructor, they need to make you one...
Just commenting to a) thank you on this great tutorial and b) tell you that I love to listen to you! :D You speak very softly and it's sooo much easier on the ears than the usual youtuber style... Keep it up!
"How cool is that?" Very cool! Thank you sir. I got MSFS and began in the Cessna as most do. I then found the TBM 930 and fell in love with that. Then I wanted to try jets so I learned both the Honda Jet and the Longitude. I have recently decided I wanted to try CA and chose the 787. I have yet to take off in it because I wanted some instruction first. Your video was exactly what I needed. Subscribed!
Baro knob seems to operate similar to other quick-scrolling knobs: Turn slow and steady and value will begin increasing in larger increments (first by 10 units, then by 100 units). Near your target setting, stop turning the dial, wait a second (this resets increments). Begin turning again (back in 1 unit increments). Turning dial fast keeps the increments locked into current increment setting. Thus, close to your target setting, don't scroll slowly or increments will again change, unless you turn 1 unit at a time to fine tune. The key is that slow and steady turning of knob will shift the increments. Fast turn = no increment change. Brief slow turn = no increment change. Slow steady turn = increment units will change. SPADNext users will be familiar with this dynamic.
Thank you! Hope you continue to have time to produce more in the series with not too long a gap between. Is there a reason why the switches seem to be mostly "down" for "on" except for the FD and arm autothrottle? Or should we forget "up and down" and think of it as "forward and back"?
That transition from "I'm a real world a320 pilot" to "I'm a real world b787 pilot" hits hard
Still a struggle for me!

@@sanket007hzb ah thanks for that.
Hello, I'm trying to fly it now I got up in the air, and autopilot dosen't follow altitudine, and nose dives, I got flight directors on, can you help?
Im trying to save up some money to buy the versions of MSFS the 787 is in, can anybody tell the 787 is in deluxe version or the premium deluxe version?
Thanks for the video man, so everytime I do a flight plan its automatic and the origin and destination always pops up in the CDU how do you do it so I can just manually put everything my self?
how come you moved to b787 pilot. Wishing you good luck in your pilot future. Never fail to cook a amazing clear video
Fantastic work! Looking forward to more!
Thanks Tim!
Great video,
im having route discontinuity problems with the requested route. Any suggestions?
On the the real one, wonder how long mouse program last for how many different pilots are using it ? How many times mechanics have to replace it, cause it wears out.
Thanks!
You’re very welcome and thank you so much!!
Quick question before engine start you said that there needs to be 4 warnings but I had five and that was was cabin temperature what does that mean?
Why do you set the stab trim at this point, and not during the performance CDU entry ? Is there a specific system reason for this?
Superb Tutorial! You are a great instructor. Much Appreciated! :)
Not sure how you made the throttle into autothrottle but did not work for me. The aircraft just headed straight for the moon:)
Just commenting to a) thank you on this great tutorial and b) tell you that I love to listen to you! :D You speak very softly and it's sooo much easier on the ears than the usual youtuber style... Keep it up!
That’s great to hear, thank you for the kind words! Will do!
if you expand the loading toolbar horizontally it reveals the CG slider
can you pls explain what is "via" and "to" when you entering your flight plan
For the OAT temperature, how would you put a minus value? Thanks!
D should means - assumed temperature and TO2 - derate nr.2...this is how it is on 737
The default physics of this aircraft are such a joke, as if a toddler had programmed it.
Can you share your binding setting for separating the tiller from the rudder pedals?
Please, could you tell me if the "OFST" and "RTA" keys on the CDU work on this B787 model, or are they still decorative details without operating?
Wow, were type rated on 787 recently? 🎉
52:52
I don't get it. I have my flight plan in and it manages to go the absolute opposite direction
Thanks very much for your videos, great help for me
Wow my father is a 787-10 Same andd that start up is kinda wierd
Also at the 44:57 you say the d-2 thrust is set at 49 degrees
Where did you get the number for that?
1:13:50 is that sound realistic? that is remarkably quiet
how can i buy or download this 787 ? what is its name plz ?
"How cool is that?" Very cool! Thank you sir. I got MSFS and began in the Cessna as most do. I then found the TBM 930 and fell in love with that. Then I wanted to try jets so I learned both the Honda Jet and the Longitude. I have recently decided I wanted to try CA and chose the 787. I have yet to take off in it because I wanted some instruction first. Your video was exactly what I needed. Subscribed!
dont you just hate it when they dont reply to your question...just rude.
Great video as always. Looking forward to the future videos as learning a lot already!
Awesome, thank you!
I have missed youre videos so much sir
More to come!
@@320SimPilot can’t wait captain 🫡 but I’ve never seen.. the switch coming at all
Baro knob seems to operate similar to other quick-scrolling knobs: Turn slow and steady and value will begin increasing in larger increments (first by 10 units, then by 100 units).
Which aircraft do you think is better recreated on msfs? The -10, -9 or -8?? Thank you
This is an interesting question. I’ll spend some time with all 3 before I decide!
hello.. How did you change the FD (flight director) symbol? You couldn't find a previous video, how did you turn it into a classic?
Thank you! Hope you continue to have time to produce more in the series with not too long a gap between. Is there a reason why the switches seem to be mostly "down" for "on" except for the FD and arm autothrottle? Or should we forget "up and down" and think of it as "forward and back"?
