Rule 1 - always take what the customer tells you with a pinch of salt. I did a Mountfield hedge cutter today, e10, cracked fuel pipes, filthy dirty. When I asked if he had ever greased it - pointing to the grease nipple, the answer was at least an honest 'no'. Not mentioned was the half a tube of superglue used to try and stem the leaking fuel which took a while to get off. It is really useful seeing the different models that you work on and their little idiosyncrasies.
Nice job Mick, think it’s just a coincidence that the machine won’t run after hitting a dog toy. Hit my dogs toys and you will do damage, the6 play with bits of fire wood and an old sweeping brush head!
Thanks Mick. It's too bad that Amazon UK won't dispatch that thumb drill set to the US, and Amazon US doesn't sell the same kit. I live in Texas, and am fortunate they sell ethanol free petrol near me. I can get 87 octane for my mowers, and 90 octane for my chainsaws, so much better for the engines. I also add a bit of Seafoam fuel additive from time to time, and my engines run great.
Hi mick I’m looking for a large mower for my garden and a moutfeild sp425 has come available locally, but I’m unsure of how good the RM55 160cc OHV is? Can you give me some advice please 😊
Thanks, I’ve been having a strange slow running with my 414 - I’ve cleaned the carb but it continues to run at more of a fastish idle than normal speed - it’s like there’s a fuel supply issue as I can force to rev by opening the throttle or the governor arm, but it sounds like it wants to bog under load - any ideas?
@@themowerman thanks, yep already tried that which keeps it ticking over at a faster speed but as soon as it gets loaded the governor seems to kick in and the revs drop which is why I think it’s a fuelling issue - I am wondering if the replacement hose I am using has become constricted 🤔
@@themowerman pretty sure I did as I was surprised to find it, but I will double check 👍 I know you’ve mentioned the OEM hoses on another video so may well replace it just to rule that out 🤔
@@themowerman im not familiar. Must be common in UK. Really appreciate you taking time to respond. Im a suber and follower. You do good work. Cheers from across the pond.
Playing devil's advocate here! He may have hit something hard enough to dislodge some of the crap in the float bowl causing it to pack up instantly. But I do know some owners tell you a story to deflect the blame from their neglect then the machine tells you the truth.

As soon as someone says this mower and this problem, it's a carb clean minimum.

Yep I ask how old is the gas in it, and in your gas can, they say oh it's only a month old, means at least 2 years old.... LMAO
love these mowers, Mick fantastic sellers

E10 can do the same thing if you dont put in E5
You know what I am going to say, but I have to say it... It's always the carb 😀
That one was more than a mess
@@GuysPlayingWithTools it was not a happy carb mate
No Air filter definitely can cause the engine to cut off because of carburetor is stopped up with nasty stuff
