Hey Taryl! Certified Husqvarna mechanic here. The bolt you take out as the belt guide, is the only bolt you need to take out. You can sneak the belt up and in there, without taking the cover off. Hope it helps.

Such a dumb design to not keep sh!t from getting into the 4WD idler pulleys. I would think it would have been easier to unbolt the blade to replace the drive belt...and to do a quick sharpening while under the deck. Great job Taryl.
Taryl, I think if you took that ribbed forward shield/ blade guard that looks like it's made of galvanized steel out, you could get a flat ratcheting socket on that hidden third bolt holding that front shield in place.
Yes, this happened on my parents' Toro self-propelled. There was a piece of a pine cone wedged stopping the front wheels from spinning. I assume this came from the squirrels eating them, and chunks found their way to wedge the drive system.
We don't have those safety bars, with the switch and brake, on mowers in Australia. So I was visiting a friend in Atlanta 20 years ago and thought I'd do him a favour by mowing around the house. I pulled and pulled for two days trying to start that furshlugginer mower until someone pointed out the safety lever. Then it started first pop. So frustrating.
As a mechanic, If I say "leave a bolt out" people look at me like I'm an amature, as a Chevrolet technician I watched GM leave off 2 nuts on the windshield wiper motor mount when they discovered they weren't needed!
The #1 reason I find a problem with the Mowers folks bring me to repair is operator error. Owners don't understand that Mowers on their Highest Cut Setting, are mowing Grass at 3.5-4". Owners lower the Deck setting to lower positions & scalp their Grass. And end up damaging the Decks, & prematurely wearing out Blades from hitting obstacles & lifting Rocks, Sticks & Dirt. (Healthy Grass shades out Weeds!)
1st caviar, i am not much learned. Having the pulleys and belt exposed to potentially high velicity sharp objects seems senseless. But, then I saw the wind tunnel. Does that thing help the grass near the center of the deck to stand up straighter so it can be cut down more proficiently? Kinda like the old vacuum clipper haircut system? NM it was just to allow for a bolt , and the belt. So the whole thing is just a shroud. Guess they figure the small area 8nside the shroud is not that susept , prone to getting stuff stuck in there.
No, it sucks up the clippings and fires them into the rear bagger. This mower can be either mulching, side discharge or rear bagger. The blades cut the grass only at the tips, the blade isn't sharp in the middle...
@@brnmcc01 the openings i was referring to are for exactly what i said, ie, one is surrounding a mounting bolt, probably for the engine, and the other opening is for the belt. I am well aware, since a child, that this type of lawn blade is only single edge beveled at its ends. As for the suction action, that is beneficial throughout the whole diameter below the deck, especially in taller grass, as it , at times, may lay over on itself. If long enough, though the base of the grass may be outside the cut , the tips may be sucked into it, and that , aided by the relationships between high and low pressure areas from shaft to cutting diameter all contributing to upward force.
80th Aniv. Breaks and Scrap Em has a plastic cover that you have to remove to replace the drive belt, but you have remove the pulley blade adapter first and of course its frozen/rrusted in place, --and you can't remove that without melting and ruining the plastic cover.
Actually if you took the 5 seconds to remove the blade you wouldnt have to keep rocking and rolling it 20 times during the repair to get it out of your way.
I left that screw out when I did mine... Great mower, stupid design on the drive system. The idler pullleys rusty and corrode and eventually lockup. Next time I'm going to try and use a single belt and convert to rear wheel drive.

Just a "Breaks 'n Swackem"/Murray 4 wheel adjuster... HighWheeler... with no transylvania drivers! 😅
Hey Tarryl, I think you can take off the orange part from the cover and work on the belt.
80th Aniv. Breaks and Scrap Em has a plastic cover that you have to remove to replace the drive belt, but you have remove the pulley blade adapter first and of course its frozen/rrusted in place, --and you can't remove that without melting and ruining the plastic cover.
we go thru belts like butter.. our johns deeres and scotts eat belts every 2 acres.. its insane
Taryl has a video that he talks about using mower belts, not car fan belts. They're more durable and a little thicker and a different dimension.
@@Standing_horse Yeah the mower belts seem like they're cloth covered or wrapped.
Are you using the Kevlar type of belts?
Yep dang ol Skippy got another issue going on huuuuu haaa haaa 😅
Hey Taryl, you should take the spark plug wire off off before you spin that engine like that.
Pre 80s engines that have no handlebar bail......
In Australia we don’t have the safety bar, maybe the government thinks we’re still gen x
Oh yea, I want one of those AWD Husky's.
16:30. YOU GONNA OIL THOSE IDLERS. OK. GOOD JOB YOU OILED THEM WITH 3M MOTOR OIL OR 5/20 MOTOR OIL. GOOD JOB. 👍
I thought changing the drive belt on the LX 176 was tough
Actually if you took the 5 seconds to remove the blade you wouldnt have to keep rocking and rolling it 20 times during the repair to get it out of your way.
EXACTLY !!!
I left that screw out when I did mine... Great mower, stupid design on the drive system. The idler pullleys rusty and corrode and eventually lockup. Next time I'm going to try and use a single belt and convert to rear wheel drive.
Thanks for sharing… what happened to all the sound effects this week? Regards
What a PITA!!
I had a few Honda would not start on new plug that ran other motors fine .
My girl friend has an elongated slot.
LMAO
