  • Welcome to my first year room in Trinity College residence at the University of Toronto💕
    I definitely found it strange that there are no pictures available of the rooms, so hopefully this can help you guys get a better grasp of what it's like living in Trin! I have a single room and I would say the majority of people living in Trin Proper do too. I also live on a single-gender floor with around 6 other girls and we share one bathroom.
    If you want to skip my explanation of Trin res and just see the room tour, go to 4:41.

    How much do you have to pay for dorms?

    • @bela.at.trinity
      @bela.at.trinity  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ok this is taken directly from my payment account to the university, not from the Trin website: my non-tuition charges (so residence and meal plan) comes out to $18, 660.00 (CAD)

      I should also add that fees are very different between domestic (Canadian) and international students! I am Canadian so that is the Canadian cost.

    I know this is a bit late (..sorry) but I’m hoping to apply to trinity if I get accepted this fall and I’m curious about the winter break residence situation? On Trinity’s website they ask that students vacate their rooms and turn in their keys before a certain date, but does that mean you yourself leave and go home or do you need to bring everything with you as in emptying your room as well? Your room looks so well kept but there’s so much stuff… so I’m assuming you don’t need to empty your room before break 😂 So sorry for the long question! Your videos are helping me a lot, thank you!

    • @bela.at.trinity
      @bela.at.trinity  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      hiiiiiiii, so when they ask you to vacate you just need to take what you need for the 2 or 3 weeks of break and you hand in your keys because no one is allowed on res during the break! But it is still your room, you return to the same one for the winter semester! I think there is a super rare case where you could be assigned a different room for the fall and winter semesters but I don't know anyone who had to do that, but it is a possibility. On Starrez you can see if you've been assigned the same room! I never had to move all my stuff out haha, that would have been soooo hard to do at christmas time lol.

    thank you soooo much for this video!!! crazy how there is barely any content on trinity's residences so i really appreciate this video! would you say that u of t is really demanding? i just got accepted to honours bachelor of science at trinity, as well as commerce in Mississauga but I'm scared of accepting either offer cause everyone says that u of t's academics are really difficult and the university doesn't care about students' health :(

    • @bela.at.trinity
      @bela.at.trinity  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mary! firstly I just want to say I totally understand your fears and I was pretty close to choosing UOttawa instead of Trin/Uoft because I was worried it would just be too hard and I wasn't smart enough to succeed at UofT. I was scaredddddd. But my heart was telling me Trin. I knew making a decision because of fear of failure was not how I want to live my life, so I took a bit of a leap of faith I guess haha. I do humanities so I can't comment directly on how hard sciences are but many of my good friends do it and they have social lives, friends, etc, and do well! Despite what you read on Reddit, which I would avoid, it isn't impossible to do well here (in fact, everyone around me seems to be doing really well lol). UofT is challenging. I won't sugarcoat it. People are stressed, put too much pressure on themselves (me included), tired, stuck in libraries all day,... buuuuuuut I wouldn't say the university doesn't care about our mental health. Profs are typically good with extensions, there are supports available, and the family you build will help you so much. Personally, if I were faced with your choice, I would go with Trinity rather than Mississauga because you'll a small community to belong to rather than nothing. Plus the St George campus is gorgeous lol. I'm from the area so it's downtown all the way over Mississauga. Just a last piece of advice, you're clearly smart enough to succeed if you got in, so don't doubt your abilities. You can achieve balance - one of my best friends has incredible grades, participates in tons of things and goes to bed by 10:30 every night - and still succeed here.

      @maryco5030 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bela.at.trinity You are so sweet thank you for your advice! Since I'm a transfer upper-year student, I was wondering if it would be possible to live at another college/residence if ever I'm not given a spot at Trinity's residences? Also, what areas at Trinity/St. Hilda's College, would you recommend? I've heard that some bathrooms are quite old so that's something that I'm concerned about :)

    • @bela.at.trinity
      @bela.at.trinity  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@maryco5030 I honestly don't know a good answer to your question haha. I know that this year, (2021-2022), some Trin people didn't get a spot in Hilda's/trin proper and were sent to live in the Chelsea hotel/Chestnut residence. And I didn't get to choose which part of Trin to live in but if you do have that choice, the bathrooms in Owens are absolutely to-die-for. But Owens is also over the kitchens and gets really hot though. I'd say the worst bathrooms are in the Cosgrave section of Trin proper lol. Honestly for me the bathroom sitch was quite traumatizing at first but you get used to it haha. For me it was less so age and more so uncleanliness - but I'm also a bit of a clean freak so take this with a grain of salt!

      From what I can tell from talking with older students, a lot of upper class students do come back and live in trin! it's not unusual at all. Some people get a 2-year residence guarantee when first offered a spot in trin, but most just enter the lottery/waitlist. I know pretty much everyone in res had some type of fan. I'm from Ontario so I can handle the heat well but I know some people found no AC a bit more uncomfortable. My friend who lives in the attic had it the worst but she survived haha. Overall, I'd say it's not really a major issue and it didn't factor into my decision to live in res. • @bela.at.trinity
      @bela.at.trinity  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      When you apply for residence after getting accepted to Trin & UofT, you rank preferences for res. My res floor was an all-girls floor and a girls bathroom. Some halls are mixed gender with mixed gender bathrooms. You rank on your residence application what you want. Across the university, as is the norm in Canada, there are male, female, and all-gender +accessible bathrooms. Trinity is the most academically prestigious college at the university and while academics isn't the only reason you get accepted, I don't know a single person at Trin who didn't do exceptionally well in high school. I don't know about my friends' averages as that is pretty irrelevant once you come to uni but mine was in that range.

    • @bela.at.trinity
      @bela.at.trinity  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most of my friends have singles and we all love having our own space sooo much. It's especially nice for being able to study in your room because you can stay up as late or wake up as early as you like without being disturbed/disturbing a roommate. Just personally, I would never want a roommate lol. I know a few of my friends who got doubles with friends this year and now those friendships are pretty much gone. That's obviously not everyone but I have seen it happen a lot. I'd say if you get to choose and can afford it, get a single. I've heard the argument that you can make a best friend for life from your fist-year roommate but I don't really agree with that. I've made best friends and we have wonderful memories in each other's rooms but then it's nice at the end of the night to go home to your own space. Plus if you have a relationship, having your own room is obviously much better. I hope this helps in any way :)

    • @bela.at.trinity
      @bela.at.trinity  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hmmm it's hard to give an easy answer to this. I would say most people use technology(either typing on a computer or writing with an iPad) for taking notes rather than a physical notebook. It also really depends on the subject. My best friend and I both used paper notebooks for our economics courses since mathy stuff is better on paper I think. For my history and politics classes I typed my notes, as do most people I'd say. But for my earth science class I exclusively used my iPad to annotate the presentation slides and a physical notebook for learning and memorizing concepts. So it really varies per person and subject.
