- In this video we share our journey of pursuing a more off grid lifestyle in South Africa particularly as we build our humble little homestead.
We cover the most important "Grids" we want to be free from initially, and hopefully will achieve them all soon. Thanks to everyone who is following our journey - it's slow progress at the moment but we are always moving forward.
It seems like a lot of people in South Africa are looking at becoming more self sufficient and building their own homesteads which is great. There are a number of channels documenting their journey to become more self sufficient from around the world, but not many we can see from South Africa. So, if you are someone who enjoys watching South Africans who are busy building their homesteads, or you want some down to earth, no fluff info before you become a homesteader, we highly recommend you check out @millennialhomesteader . Well done, I have no debt, working to improve my solar system (double it's capacity), I am an Electrician, after that I am planning my water harvest system. I started a veggie patch in my back yard that's giving me a fair harvest, my food forest in my front yard is still not very productive, given time it will improve. Retired so I have time now.

These 3 step are important. #1 the best. #2 is difficult here.. cause we hardly have any sun during the winter. You have different down there! #3 water is no issue here. We have own well and clear water lake, which you can drink. So different matters in the different places. All the best to you 😍

Well done guys. We have been homesteading for 8 to 10 years now. Living a self sufficient live is so satisfying. We resently moved to a smaller place and starting over.

I was looking at the Overberg area to move to and found some good looking properties then i was told about planned mining in Overberg district. i Don't want to invest in property and have a mine close by that will destroy every thing. We have been living off grid for 12 years and want a more quite and less crime area to live.
Yes, we have heard of the planned mine. I believe it is going to be closer to the Bredasdorp area if Im not mistake which is quite a way away from us. However, it does affect the entire Overberg negatively!

Hi Louwrens! Thanks for watching - much appreciated! Unfortunately their are a few things we'd rather not make public but what we can say is that we got the property at way below market value due to the "tenant" that took us close on 6 months to be removed. The plot in total is 3000m2 - more than enough for what we want to achieve as Homesteaders. New video coming soon!

Yes it is
Yes, we haven't had any issues so far - mainly petty crime in the surrounding area but nothing major.
Maybe time to start tge process to get the little friend we spoke about bud.
