- This is my first re-fight of Culex in the Post Game of Super Mario RPG Remake.
No Super Suit was used.
This was my first casual playthrough of this file, and I experienced it on my stream with my community in it's fullest.
Game was absolutely amazing.
My reaction to seeing this was incredible.
Gonna start routing the speedrun, and can't wait for that to happen.

Holy cheese he gained the power of becoming 3D
Finally completing the cycle of his JP plot
It was a _damn_ good plot, and an even better resolution. It's taking a single joke and letting it marinate.
For _27 years._
... Before serving it.
The 'Oh no he's hot' basically describes me staring for a solid 5 mins before actually getting fighting is.. very.. very real.
For this refight they really just said “ok how can we make this as difficult as possible?”
And that's absolutely fine! He's the final boss of the post game. He deserves to have his time in the sun now that he's 3D
Um I maxed levels got lazy shells and just keep aoe till dead lol
@@JohnAbdielgonzalez-bl4xl Even then, his 0 count moves are designed to bypass lazy shell armor.
if your characters aren't fast enough, you pretty much get oneshot as long as a crystal is out. and peach going down when you lack revival items is rough too. It's not as easy as some people try to make it.
although, that earth crystal is what's locking specific commands. That thing needs to die FAST or you're at the mercy of RNG.
@@DarkFrozenDepths it's not just the earth crystal. i think any crystal can lock any button command but im not sure.
Oh my god I *just* realized why the wind Crystal is weak to Jump.
In Final Fantasy IV, the Wind Fiend has an invincible tornado shield, and the only way to make her vulnerable is a Dragoon’s Jump attack.
I didn't realize it's a reference to ff4s four Elemental Fiends.
Ohhh sheeeeeeet, that's right
Kain was the only one who can deal with that tornado of Barbariccia(wind fiend)
That is a deep cut reference, my god
I like how you didn't even say anything in response to seeing him. Just the silent shock followed by the resolve to _run those hands._
I think my stunned look was my response to him haha. They made him look SO GOOD
Good job doing this on your first try. It took me a few attempts. 3d culex is no joke. I died laughing when i saw the button lock. Then my party died
The reaction is perfect. Completely stunned into silence-
Just beat Culex 3D for the first time a little while ago in 45 turns. Took me 3 tries. First time, I didn't really approach the fight seriously and only managed to kill one crystal. Other times, I went in with more status-preventing accessories and concentrated on killing one crystal at a time.
Nice job on the clear!
This Cosmic demon really just got jumped twice by Mario and pals.
Bro got slammed so hard in 2D, he had to get upgraded, just to get slammed again.
Culex actually has 9999 HP, even higher than Smithy! So yeah, he's the toughest boss in the game!
the crystals also have over 11k HP combined, which ranges from around 1800 to around 3800....
plus if culex DOES die before the crystals do, have fun since he'll get revived at the cost of the crystals dying.
@@DarkFrozenDepths THAT JUST MEANS HE'LL HAVE 18,998 HP!!! 🤯
@@DarkRedPsycho92 yeah, and any hits that weren't AoE that hit the crystals would have been wasted effort too.
Original culex had around 4500 hp I guess
FF4 boss theme completes this so hard
Holy crap, bro really got the Yoshi-P/FF14 glowup
thanks for not spoiling it in the thumbnail
I want to believe this isn't a sarcastic comment, but you're welcome. Gotta keep the suspense!
@@IceblueTTV No, you're correct. You DIDN'T spoil it. It doesn't show what Culex looks like in 3D (too late unfortunately as other people have already ruined the surprise, but I appreciate the effort not to be like them nonetheless).
17:48 hes been traing in the time chamber for that line.
And there goes the 4th wall too.
Just an amazing reaction. Thank you for uploading. I was speechless as well, this alone made playing the game worth it
Glad you enjoyed it
This was an amazing stream moment.
his reaction was hilarious
I like seeing all the different strats people use in this fight ^^ For the second form i used Geno and Peach (peach with lazy shell) and just wittled him down, using their triple special every time it reached zero
such a good fight
About that I NEVER could do 100 jumps for the Super Suit EVER even on the SNES game but for Culex 3D rematch the Lazy shell armor does NOT work on its meteor attack that will always leave you with 1 HP left and its 3D form I believe HAS INFINITE FP.
I’ve been playing the game since the day it released. I got the super suit for the first time about 7 months ago on SNES, and popped off on stream.
This culex fight was incredibly fun and challenging. I’m so happy with how they did it.
And yeah, this Culex has infinite FP. Meteor actually does your max hp -1. (It actually killed a party member during this fight)
far as I know, super suit doesn't save you either from the 0 count moves. final claw is set to kill whoever it hits, and the meteor can leave you at 1 or 0 HP, which is easy pickings for the crystals if they get a turn before you do.
I never knew enemies had limited fp. I always assumed it was infinite
@@suiton20I believe that in the original game, the only enemy that had infinite FP was Smithy's final form.
That Meteor attack was wiping my party even though I was sure I was at full HP and thought the same as you (I was probably wrong) so instead I found the 🧀 strat to change my living party members (Peach and Mallow my GOATS fr) for my dead ones just in time for that Meteor attack and it works. Beat him second try and also was insane enough to do a Thought Peek for every Crystal in a same run. I'm not the best at RPGs Superbosses but all of these were super fun to figure out
30 minute battle and starting on low hp? They really did just put in the average final fantasy boss lmao
Yep! That was always the idea behind Culex as a boss in this game.
He pulled a Cacklettas Soul from Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga.
Lol as soon as you said "oh that's lovely" the earth crystal went darude sandstorm on your party.
I did it in 13 turns at level 30 but I think there is room for a sub-10 for a speedrunner after some practice. fun fact: if you do not defeat any crystals before Culex 3D gets KOd the crystals destroys themselves to ressurect him at full health
oh sh1t xd
First time I beat him took me 47 turns, but I felt like a champ! Heh.
Yo heck yeah gamer! Congrats!
I’m sorry did he start the fight by putting the party at exactly 1 HP?
Welcome to Final Fantasy super bosses :)
Kefka: He's just like me fr fr
Yep meteor inflicts damage to all party members equal to their max HP minus 1. So if anyone isn’t at full HP, they die.
And if nobody in the party is fast enough, the Wind Crystal will act before you can heal, and hit the entire party again.
ok, so in Final Fantasy terms: Mario would be a Dragoon due to his Jump, but can also cast Fireball, Firaball, and Firagaball.
Peach would probaby be a White Mage due to her specials primarily focusing on ally-healing or enemy status-condition infliction. What about the rest?
Just a heads up, I only played FF7 original so I'm not too familiar with the job system, my assumptions are based on a bit of internet browsing.
I'd think Geno is a Black mage, his specialty being offensive magic.
Mallow is definitely a Red Mage, having both offensive and healing magic.
Bowser to me seems like a Magic Knight, having high offense and offensive magic.
@@BoosterGoose yeah, i was thinking as far back as FF4, although FF5 for me was the one that put the job system in the spotlight
Can you only get the new ultimate weapons after Smithy?
The ultimate weapons are only available during the post game bosses, yeah.
For Mallow, Geno, and Bowser, yes. Likely to keep up with Mario's and Peach's best weapons.
Is this post-game second fight or did the characters just kinda break the fourth wall by referencing the original game?
This is the post game final boss
So, this is not a remake but a sequel? Cause they are talking about the original Game... Or there is 2 culex's fights in the remake?
@@ZazeeGamingThere are two Culex fights in the remake. The second one, which is this one, only opens after defeating Smithy and thus beating the main story.
Casts Meteo first turn...
Anyone who has played FF3: METEO!?
Somewhere in the distance... Tellah died from Culex casting Meteo
All of my team is level 28 to 30 and I'm struggling. I still can't understand how you beat him at only level 22 🤯😭
I am at level 3o and still struggling also
@@bonerrific23This boss is so much pain 😂😂😂
I did it at level 22 w/o lazy shell because I finished at 21 and didn't wanna grind, the unblockable AOEs were brutal. He also outsped my characters if geno wasn't in the party, so meteor would set everyone to 1 and earth crystal would sandstorm and kill everyone. Took me like 5 hours of attempts 😅 Super satisfying tho
Whats the best stats to level up wach character in?
The answer to this question is subjective. You build the way you want to build them.
Characters have their own specialties.
Though I personally feel that you’re pretty safe putting most of Mallow’s levels into magic. But he’s honestly not incompetent with physical attacks, it’s just that his magic is really worth using.
9900 or if not 10000 hp of culex
I like how ice and chat make such a huge deal over final claw even though its a blockable move.
I don’t think they knew it was a blockable at the time.
You would be correct with this comment!
@@train4292 thats fair
Atleast it's not Random like in orginal
D:
ULTRA. JUMP. Jesus!
no
This game has such a cheap look to it. You don't see Culex's sprite before the battle and that circus-like battle transition screen...
Man you just came here jsut to hate didnt you? First of all that twnaition is the same for all battles so they wluldnt change it.
Secondly, Of course they dont show his spirte before the fkght, he is 3d already! They do that in the normal fight tho, where he isn't
@@shadowdragun My whole point is that the original dark, blocky transition is cool and it's also cool to see Culex approach you in the original. Another thing I don't like about the remake is that, in battle, the characters move in an awkward way, as if they're underwater. In the original, they have a mature stillness about them.
@@jayhughes3843 And you just ignored of my previous reply is that the first fight against 2d culex still happens, just like that. So you sre quite literally complaining over nothing.
Also that second one i have literally no idea what you are talking about. What the hell is "a mature stillness"? Did you make that up on the spot? The only differnece on how the move from the original is that they no longer do things like walk midair to hit someone, they move the same
Of course you don’t see his sprite before the battle.
See, this is the *second* battle with Culex. The remake still has the original battle, including the intro where he approaches you as a 2D Sprite.
For this rematch, though, the entire point/joke is that Culex is now a 3D model. If he approached you before the battle, that would make it impossible to surprise the player when you see his model in battle.
@@enlongjones2394 I didn't know that. I just looked at the first battle.
I still don't like what they did. It's as if they're making a joke of him. They should have just changed his sprite to an N64-style sprite and kept it to one battle. Instead, they had to get silly and break the fourth wall.
I beat him yesterday. He is not that hard. As long as you knock out the jewels you are good. I would switch Geno with Mallow because his magic is very effective.
