  • Is your 6-Series coupe not feeling special enough? Perhaps you've decided you need something more decadent than a Maserati GranTurismo? Spendier than the average 911, but more comfortable than a Panamera? There are a few options in America, but if you want to be less flashy than a Bentley or Rolls Royce, there is but one option: The S-Class coupe. Is it possible to review a car that has no "true" competition? Let's find out.

    The 8-series competitor from Mercedes is the E-class coupe, it's much more similar in every way. Just because BMW gave their model the number 8 that doesn't change anything about the car, it's nothing but a 5-series coupe with limited rear seat space and nowhere near as luxurious as a S class.

    • @Trendyflute
      @Trendyflute 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is actually 7-series based now instead of 5-based as the 6 was, and it's larger than the 6, but there is something about BMW's flagship models...they don't really standout compared to the flagship models from Mercedes, Lexus...even Audi, Jag; BMWs best cars are their smallest ones and they tend to get more and more anonymous the bigger they get.

    • @mziwendukuntsele671
      @mziwendukuntsele671 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the 8-series is more a Porsche 968 kind of car. Not quite GT but not outright sporty as well. GT layout but with sporting aspirations, similar to Ferrari GTs. The E-class may be compared to the 6-series.

      No it isn't. 850i smacks E class coupe in any variant out of the park. 0-60 3.6s? The E class doesn't even come in AMG63 variants.. pathetic

    • @mziwendukuntsele671
      @mziwendukuntsele671 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ConstantineJoseph Just because there's an overlap in performance doesn't make them rivals. The E-class Coupe is based on the E-class. The 6-series coupe is based on the 5-series. THAT MAKES THEM RIVALS!

      @@mziwendukuntsele671Still I'll never get a shitty E class. E300 is what? a 4 banger small ass turbo unit. E400, a V6 with twin scroll not even a bit turbo, not even an AMG. Also reliability and after sales is SHIT. The after sales distributor from where I am are arrogant, snotty and think all their customers are multi millionaires.
      So BMW is for me. m850i, way way better than the last M6 and maybe I'd wait to get the M8. A true supercar capability with a service team that panders to you and your cars every need like a butler

    It's heartwarming that cars like this are still available. I agree, if you were going down this path, the cabriolet makes more sense in the "bling" department with not much decrease in functionality. If the trunk space isn't enough, there's always the rear seat area for more stowage given people who buy this car are obviously not intending to carry 4 passengers on a long trip.

  • @KingCarlofcarlWorld

    The $1,750 Swarovski option sounds kind of inexpensive for this car. I'm surprised that option isn't $7,500. Or $17,590. But what a fun option, if only to talk about it, at this price point.

    • @slowanddeliberate6893
      @slowanddeliberate6893 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You just are actually partially paying for it even when you don't get that option. That way when you do get the option there's the illusion that the option is relatively inexpensive.

    ok, this is a direct competitor to the 8 series, even tho the us only got m850i. it is not quite a competitor with the gt, that gt is more like an e53 coupe competitor. however, it is a step down competitor to the wraith and continental. its just like a kia k900 or acura rlx or genesis g90 with bmw 7, benz s and audi a8. I don't understand why people say the 8 series is a competitor to the e coupe, it clearly is not. both s coupe and the 8 are their flagship models, as well as the similar dimensions. also, if we recall the old 6 coupe bmw discontinued, that thing basically turned into the 8 (similar dimension), and that one was really close to the s couple, (not pricing wise tho lol..) but think like the s couple is like a kia k900, and continental/wraith are like the 7 series/a8.

    If I see one of those Swarovski crystal units in a parking lot it's going to take a lot of self control for me to not take out a jack handle and smash the shit out of it.

    the one thing I will never understand with vehicles this expensive is people who get them, get them to throw them away in a few years. You would think someone investing a quarter million dollars would actually take pride in their investment.

      A car is not an investment.
      An investment is something that’s expected to appreciate in value. A car, any car, will always deprecate in value, thus cannot be considered an investment.
      The rich simply are too rich to care, that’s all.

    Alex, for the thigh extender, does the entire bottom cushion extend for length independent of the seat back like the older S-Class models or does the front of the seat bottom roll up like the Lincoln Continental?
