    I've been practising my vibrato every day for the last four odd months and whilst I am seeing improvement, I don't expect this to be a quick undertaking. I'm in for the long haul and I WILL get this sucker eventually no matter how long it takes. I'm not taking quick steps like mindless shaking of the hand, my fingers bend at the appropriate knuckle and slowly, but surely, I WILL get this part of my violin technique conquered !!

    Man... supporting the hand against the violin, as training wheels, that's genius, I've been practicing for the past few weeks my vibrato, but as to be expected is extremely uneven and hard to keep it as a wrist vibrato, but with this I really can see myself moving to the next step. Great Video, keep them coming !!!!

    Many students struggle with the transition from fast, shimmering vibrato to a rich, wide vibrato. The wrist vibrato helps perfect this technique and Ray Chen's methods are the ideal way to battle this struggle. Great video!

      On the fingerboard

    • @MrFlibbleflobble
      @MrFlibbleflobble 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      If it's too much pressure, I found that my shoulder rest was not suited for me.
      To avoid tension in my neck and shoulder/ back but still keep adequate hold of my violin I would hold more of the weight of my violin with my left hand, which required me to grip the neck, locking the two together. which meant the movement of my hand just took my whole violin with it.
      See if you can still play when the base joint of your index finger is no longer in contact with the neck of your violin.

      Try to make just three big amplitudes of vibration in the left, while you're pulling your bow in just one direction first. You can train that in the air without violin, too. Take an easteregg of chochlate, make left the vibrato and in the right you make a move with your hand, like you have a bow in your hand and go in the same time in one direction. That should help. My pupils make an exersice before, either. They have to make a big slide up and down with the left hand and while 3 slides up and down, they have to pull/push the bow allways in one direction.

    😭 Thank you so much. My teacher never corrected me about this. I didn't even know I was wrong until today.

    My teacher (just earlier before my lesson finished) taught me how to vibrato and told me to practice it slowly while doing scales. When I heard him say "vibrato", i got scared because I can clearly see what difference I'm making than my teacher lol, and I'm so nervous trying this my hand and wrist is so tense. So i decided to search for vibrato practices and I hope this helps me :')
