It’s really hard to find such a precise and well done camera review/comparison. People should really know that in good lighting phones capture almost the same, also that blue and green colors are hardly a problem for cameras. You focused on what matters and what really makes difference, which are yellow and red color capture, low light with strong lights affecting the lenses, background light, video stabilization in different conditions and with/without zoom. First video I see from your channel and I went directly to the subscribe button. Congratulations for the awesome work.

Yes, the details in the fire! However, in just the next clip, I'm in love with the coloring on the iPhone. S9+ has better details but the coloring is on point with the iPhone. I'd never switch over to iPhone though, don't get it twisted...
Wondering how I'd change the camera settings to improve the coloring on the S9+...if anyone has suggestions, I'll listen to them.
LuvCali28 Samsung just overall takes better pictures I personally love the unrealistic color because it’s so bright and pretty the iPhone is just too dull to kinda depressing the S9 has a better microphone the slow-mo its way slower it takes better pictures in the dark zoomed in pictures are a lot more clear and there is so much more you can edit after you have taken a picture on iPhones you can’t edit your pictures much I love photography and that gets on my nerves a lot I like to edit my pictures

The big question is: were you looking at the s9's photos on the standard display mode? If you were, then the colours will always be oversaturated. One can also change the display mode to be more natural on the s9. You should look at all the images on a desktop with a great display.

The Samsung is the better camera by far, but the only problem with it is the highly saturated colors, but that's easily fixed with editing so it should not AT ALL be a deal breaker for you

I really prefer the iPhone's more natural colours. I know I'm in the minority (as you are by definition when you prefer anything Apple), but I like the natural colours a lot more. I think they capture the reality of a moment better, while the S9 photos no doubt do look aesthetically pleasing with the turned up contrast and saturation.
The Rest Of Us im not an iphone user, or am gonna be iphone user soon(too expensive). But i prefer iphoneX camera. The color is more natural. Samsung phone always make the photos looks more to warmer color, more red, more yellow. Which is sometime not pleasing and fake for me.

Great review. I don't know why anybody would give this video a thumbs down because it was so informative and seemingly unbiased. I agreed with almost all his points and I liked how he took so many different pictures that pointed out pros and cons for each photo/video.

Minus dimensions, smaller bezels, dual camera setup, dedicated DRAM on camera, camera sensor upgrade, stereo speakers, upgraded processor, increased ram, upgraded graphics, variable aperture, brighter display. I don't think anyone is saying it's the best phone in the world, but so far, the comparisons to competitors puts it ever so slightly ahead. Having the best smartphone display and camera tested also helps. :-)

*For those of you who do not know, almost all settings/modes of the camera, esp. the front cam have their beauty mode ON on default on a level 2 out of 8. That's why most people see their selfies automatically soften up. Just reduce it to 0 to remove beauty mode*

Both looks good. Can't pick a clear winner because some pictures I phone wins. Some the S9 plus wins. I say a tie based on your comparison. I like the iphone front camera better. I like the natural look instead of the smooth out unnatural look of the s9 plus. One thing...When looking at pictures, most people look at the subject more than whatever is in the background. When comparing cameras, you guys tend to put way to much emphasis on zoom in shots. The more you zoom in, the more the pictures degrades. Subjects in the back ground are less important to me. I want to see details and sharpness on the area focus on.

Great video & comparison. So many reviews like this do not actually offer much opinion - they just "hedge their bets"....but at the end you actually chose which camera/device you preferred overall. Much appreciated.
I'm going with the S9+. As I like hiking and taking pictures from landscapes for me dynamic range is the most important feature. The fact alone that it's so much cheaper and still can do better is actually obscene.

It's been 5 years I gave up with iPhone and went with different Android phones. WAY BETTER!!
Excellent review and fair analysis, though since both the iPhone and Galaxy launch about 6 months apart from one another it stands to reason that the newer phone will likely always win the camera battle as the technology seems to improve at such a fast clip.
Maybe a better comparison would be the S8+ versus the S9+ to to see if the differences are stark enough to warrant an upgrade.

Zeke Theta if you mean image processing that matches 2012 standards then yeah the s9 is better. But real photographers will always, always pick the iPhone over the Samsung. The look of the iPhone photos are unmatched by any other. It recreates colour and tones like a DSLR, something that I’ve tested myself.

There is no best phone to put in your pocket. People who want performance, security and support will prefer the Pixel 2 XL over the S9. It's all preferences.
TheGamingAudiophile except I'm pretty sure Samsung had been updating its phones for security like Google, and Pixel 2 is worse than S8 in performance. Major software updates, maybe yes, you'll get it -a few months- ok half a year later on a Samsung (judging by their S8.)
Pixel 2 has front facing speakers, squeeze-ability, no headphone jack, maybe longer support than S8.
If you want major software updates because they bring new stuff to Android (eg. Android 7 brought multi-window,) Samsung has a lot of those features already in their samsung experience/touchwiz. Jus' sayin'.

Gotta say, my Nexus 5X's camera got way better over these two years of owning it, stealthy software updates by Google keep making it better. And its photos look better than iPhone 7's photos (that's the only high end phone I've been able to compare it to)
Mysterious One What?! The Pixel 2 XL is on Android 8.1 March security patch release. The S8 and Note 8 are still on Android 7.1. The newly released S9 is only on Android 8.0. Samsung devices are pretty much a year behind with Android updates that target core refinements and architecture improvements. I don't care about all the gimmicky features Samsung throws into their phones. It causes them to lag overtime. I had the Note 8 and moved to the Pixel 2 XL. Best decision ever. Also, the Pixel 2 and XL are the smoothest performing Androids period. The S8 is no match, let alone the Note 8. The S9 is also no match after a couple of months of usage.

I think I'd take the S9+ because in most cases it got better detail and bit more vivid colors. Low light quality as well was stunning and also the wider selfie camera was a plus as well. Also, do a review on the LG V30.

Both seem great, but I'd settle for more dynamic range every time. Any colour difference can be tweaked anyway in post. S9 plus for me. Great review.

Songsource I'm not a hater, I had iPhones for 5 years, I just prefer the galaxy camera.. Both cameras specs are the same, galaxy has a little bit more, features are dope. Let me have my opinion, u can have urs.. Camera comparison for the top smart phones usually ends up to preference... however battery, display, speed, etc usually just ends on which is better..

The iPhone X IMO is a more consistent camera. The variable aperture on S9 is just a gimmick. Low light pics you can barely tell the difference between the two. They’re both great cameras. iPhone X tends to produce more true to life color versus the over sharpening and sometimes over saturated colors on the galaxy phones. The S9 tends to give almost a beauty mode when photographing people. The selfie camera is better on S9. Wider aperture that fits more in the frame.

If you really want to put these cameras through a challenge you should photograph black labs! It's so hard to photograph them to get all the definition in their cute little black faces, especially if there is a window bind them! My black lab looks like a black blob in a lot of my pics. It seems the S9 might be a better option for taking pictures of her.

Your selfie is super smooth...and a lot of people don't want that...some people want to have the chance to edit the photo...but what Samsung is doing it sometimes over saturating the photo and tend to overly smoothen the face... I like smooth but I like iPhone X selfie better...it looks more natural to me.
There's one big big difference on Video recording... Galaxy S9 and 9+ (Like S8, S8+ and Note9) records on Stereo sound.. iPhone X or any other iPhone records on Mono sound. That's too bad for a $1000 phone. Using iPhone recording a musical, a concert etc it's so unnatural on sound...
You can test this. You can distinguish between left sounds and right sounds on a video recorded on a Galaxy Phone. Not on an iPhone

Its funny because generally the S8 mic does sound much much better than the iPhone however in a loud background noise situation the iPhone always sounds better because it somehow doesn't pick up a lot of the background noise while the Samsung sounds distorted because it's picking up everything. I never thought about recording a musical, etc and have to agree the Samsung is better in this area... Overall the Samsung does have the better mic though.
