    It's lovely to see somebody make a foamy base from scratch. Especially a fellow Aussie! We have the same stand-mixer. 😀

    I'm going to call this the Mrs. Science Wizard Show. How amazing are you! Not asking a question but stating a fact. I love watching you mix ALL your ingredients. I also love listening to your accent. LOL I would love this because I only take showers due to slipping and falling OUT of my bathtub. My bathtub is now a garden for my house plants and the shower is seperate. So the tub is an actual garden tub as it is described. LOL

      Lori Roberts Thank you for watching. I love the recipe and find there is so much you can do with it. I also make my face Scrub using the base. I find using a crockpot easy and less likely to scorch. I also find I loose less water through evaporation this way

    Hello there. Found your channel the other day and it’s really informative so thank you. I’m a fellow soaper and this recipe looks great, might give it a go one day.
    I also had trouble finding distilled water for a little while, coles and big w were my best bets but most of the time they were out of stock. With much research I found out you can buy it at a ‘medical supplies’ wearhouse as they also sell to the public. I purchase it now in 20 litres (with a tap) for around $40. Hope this info helps someone else out there.

    • @SoyandShea
      @SoyandShea  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jodie Roe Thank you for your lovely comments and information. I shall certainly keep that in mind should our IGA run out. If you do have an IGA local to you check out their water. I pay just under $2 for 2litres. I recently spoke to the manager there and they increased their water order to make sure they always have water.

      Soy and Shea Wow that’s great they are able to do that for you. I’m lucky the medical supplies store is literally around the corner for me, so hopefully I’ll never run out again.

    How informative can you get! Honestly, it’s literally the first video I’ve seen from you and I got so much out of it. Even when you didn’t reveal the full recipe (which of course I understand why). Thank you so much for that!
    And it’s makes me feel super happy when you brought up Australia! Aussie here, and most videos talk about Walmart or something and I’m like “ahhh, I’ve got Woolies?” Haha!
    I do have a question though, the plastic film you put around the tubs so you heat seal them... what’s the name of those?
    I’m thinking of starting my own skin care business. I thought, since I’m allergic to everything in the world and have to buy things to create stuff... I might as well sell it to! 🤗
    But I’d want to make sure everything is very much secure. But I can’t for the life of me figure it out... I’ve searched but I guess I’m not picking the right words for the searching! 😂
    Thank you very much if you see this, and of course thank you for sharing your knowledge and encouraging others to create and have fun!

    Very interesting to watch you make this from scratch. I have the recipe and ingredients but haven’t made it yet. I like the crock pot method so you don’t have to monitor a pot on the stove constantly. I’ve always spooned my scrubs in a jar, but your piping looks so nice. Will have to try that. I love the 2 color version for the marshmallow scent. Well done! 😀👍

    • @SoyandShea
      @SoyandShea  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. The first few times I made this, I did do it in the double boiler pot but then I my batches got too big for the pots so switched to the crock pot. I usually pipe most of my products into pots - me and spooning in just doesn't work

    • @SoyandShea
      @SoyandShea  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! It's definitely a balancing act of getting it whipped enough to fill the jars to the correct weight but not whipping to much that you knock the air back out. I have three different sized jars. The ones in the video are a 250ml (I think about 8fl oz) and 400ml (I think that's about 13fl oz) I also offer a 100ml jar too which I believe is just under 4fl oz

    I recently found your channel and want to first say thank you. Great help. I did purchase the formula for this base. I notice you adding more ingredients than are listed in Sandra's recipe. Is there something I am missing. I now have base ready for scrubs. Would hate to waste the remaining ingredients due to errors in base. Thanks again.

    • @SoyandShea
      @SoyandShea  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you ❤ I only had one extra ingredient in the base and this is because one day I didn't have enough cocoa betaine so I added another liquid surfactant and loved the outcome. The base recipe Sandra supplies really doesn't need any adjusting. I then use her base like any other base you can purchase and then turn it into something else. I was already using a bought base when I found her recipe so I didn't follow the extra recipes she provides in the download.

    Wonderful! Even though Sandra’s recipe is very detailed, a live show and tell is so helpful. Your product website is beautiful too. Your final product looks fluffier than how my final sugar scrub set up. Do you put less sugar in your recipe than what Sandra puts in her sugar scrub recipe? Is there anything one can do if the mixture does get over whipped and collapses?

    • @SoyandShea
      @SoyandShea  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you for your lovely comments. I find the mixing the trickiest bit to get the right consistency. It's a balancing act of getting it whipped enough to fill the pots, but not so over-whipped you can't get the full weight of product in. I haven't found a way to get the mixture to rewhip after it has collapsed. I have had this problem and I usually add more sugar to get the volume but this does change the feel of the product. For my sugar I use double plus 10%. For example if I use 100g base I use 210g sugar. My sugar is a blend of regular and castor sugar

    I have the DIY recipe and have made the foaming sugar scrub. However, none of her additional suggested recipes using the foaming bath butter add kaolin clay into the scrubs. Can you share why you add the clay and how do you determine what amount?

    • @SoyandShea
      @SoyandShea  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The main reason I chose to add the Kaolin was to give slip to the base making it easier to apply. It's a mild clay and is meant to be great for all skin types. I personally found my skin felt calmer after exfoliating when clay was added. When working with ingredients I always follow usage guidelines from suppliers and then make several small batches testing amounts till I find what's best. For this recipe I tested between 1-3%

    • @SoyandShea
      @SoyandShea  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is the Foaming butter soft after whipping? It could also be how much exfoliant/sugar you are using. The more you add, the thicker the mix so harder to pipe

    Random question but did you have to register for NICNAS to be able to sell your whipped soap at all

    • @SoyandShea
      @SoyandShea  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You have to register with NICNAS now known as AISIC if you are directly working with the chemicals they list which includes Potassium and Sodium Hydroxides. (That does not include Melt and Pour as the lye is already converted to soap). My foaming sugar scrub recipe is a surfactant based one and does not use any chemicals listed so I would not have had to register if this was my only product.

      The scales don't have a brand name. I get them from Ebay. Look for digital electronic scales. I usually get the ones that weigh in 1g increments

    What does the kayolin clay do in the base and how do you know how much more preservative to add for the other ingredients?

    • @SoyandShea
      @SoyandShea  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like to add the clay for its properties including absorbing excess oils. I also find it helps keep the oils combined in my base.
      For preservative, you need to check your recommended usage rates. It's complicated to explain here but basically I work outvhow much preservative my batch needs and take away what is present in the base and then add the difference.

      I use CorelDraw to design all my labels and I use A4 Clear stickers sheets to print the labels. As the only thing that changes from each of the fragrances is colour, I have the same label for all the pots with all possible colours listed (allowed under Australian labelling law).
