As aging adults, 66 and 73, we no longer enjoy driving.
Ten hour trips that we used to do in one a day are now split up into two days.
We just returned from a long trip to Nashville, and used FSD for the entire trip.
Nashville traffic was heavy with 12 lanes of high speed driving, multiple entrances and exits, and cars constantly cutting me off. Adding to the stress was rain and fog.
    FSD handled it well.
One thing that changed during the trip was it used to pass as needed to keep up with my set speed. On the second day it only passed when I used the turn signal to indicate a lane change. I didn’t like this change.
In spite of the few flaws, I’m buying FSD.
The only decision is do I subscribe or buy it?
We just bought the car, a 2023 M3 rear wheel drive, 5 months ago.
    This is our first EV.
Without FSD the trip to Nashville would have been far less enjoyable due to the traffic.
FSD feels like when GPS developed into what it is today. Today, few people would want to take a trip without using GPS. The same will be true for FSD in the decades ahead.
Buy Tesla stock while it’s still affordable.
    Love your videos.
    Thanks for making them.

Used the beta and used it over 800 miles so far. Did about 400 miles on FSD going this weekend. There were city roads, country roads and in town driving.
It was both amazing and upsetting.
What was amazing it changed lanes to keep pace, moved over a bit for trucks, my wife loved that,
and came to gentle slow downs, to turn right or left. It also drove on two lane roads with no lines off to the right, but some of them were so sloped from the center I took over and drove in the center until I needed to move over for oncoming cars.
The issues were more than a few. 1) Constantly at issue was it knowing what the speed limit was. It would turn on to a country roads, not see a sign and not know how fast to go, (they are typically 55). If it was going 55 before a town, get the slow down to 45mph, drive through the town and not know or miss the sign to go 55 again. It also changed the speed limit by a stop sign to 15mph cross the road and not speed back up to 55mph. This was annoying. It also asked me to shake the wheel when it was making a turn. That was messed up. On the highway it would see a truck speed limit and not know it was for trucks and slow the car down to 60 from 65. In general it was doing a lot of adjustments to speed that were wrong.
Even with these annoying issues, it drove 90% of the way there and back. It did an amazing job and my wife was very impressed. I believe strongly that Level 3 is possible this year.

Great video guys! I purchased FSD in 2019 for my 2018 M3 and have been a Beta tester since then. Kim, I also felt FSD was a lot of work to use. I'm 76 so my energy level isn't what it used to be, but I wanted to make as much of a contribution as possible to the system. I used it every single day, but V11 almost made me stop. V12 is mostly a joy to use & I'm looking forward to a rapidly improving experience. I purchased FSD because I didn't want to end up the same as so many older individuals who are so restricted because of loss of ability to drive. Many, many places don't have adequate public transportation & even when they are available, not very convenient. On V12.3.3 I still have the problem of turning into inappropriate turn-only lanes. I believe that the highway is still on V11, so the single stack is something to look forward to.
I am also very frustrated with the lack of ability to transfer FSD. As a retired teacher on a very small income I have not been able to take advantage of any of the transfer offers, because I can't just jump up & purchase a new vehicle within a short time span. As an early adopter of both a Tesla and FSD I would be happier with Tesla if they acknowledged that by allowing me to transfer it at any time.

Regarding the 40 mph speed limit on freeway I400, we have a "minimum speed 40 mph" sign. Tesla's FSD reads the "white rectangle" sign shape and the number 40, but fails to read the text or doesn't read it at all, which is why it sets a speed limit for the car at 40 mph.

  • @aaron19653

I have FSD 12.3.3 and driving around town it is really good. The turns are more human like, the speed selection is more natural and i hardly intervene. Most of my interventions are not needed - I need to get my confidence up. I have had FSD for 5 years. This is the first time I can really consider using it in traffic in cities. Highways have been great for years now, but even there the speed selection is better and I think it makes smoother lane changes now than on earlier version.

  • @jasonhatcher5753
    @jasonhatcher5753 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

The speed limit changes to 40 MPH is being caused by the “MINIMUM SPEED 40MPH” signs.
It does it to me on I-85 a lot.

  • @mikekienker5368
    @mikekienker5368 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

A few days ago, I did a 10 mile round trip and FSD performed flawlessly. Today, however, I did a 30 mile trip and had to do several interventions. One was where it inexplicably slowed to 45 on the freeway in the left lane, and then proceeded to fail to change lanes with less than 0.1 mile to our exit. Doesn't seem to plan ahead for freeway exits. I've seen this behavior many times. Then on the trip home, it jumped into the left turn lane on a city street to prepare for a RIGHT hand turn. Then, at the last second, it swerved all the way over to the right lane. Fortunately, there was no one behind us.
Seems like FSD has good days and bad days.

I use it daily and have probably logged over 50k miles with it. v12.3.3 is the first version that has gotten me from point to point without having to disengage it. Don't get me wrong it will occasionally choose the incorrect lane which will cause me to correct it but I must say it has been a huge improvement. My neighbor also has it and it is the first version that he has used daily as well. In the past he would try it once a new update would hit and then immediately stop using it.

I think with the solid line on the freeway it didn't want to change lanes. Highway is still using the old FSD v11 stack, so it doesn't get the same as city streets. If you have it set to auto speed, and it says auto then you are FSD V12, if you see the max speed, it is FSD v11.

I've been using FSD for over 2.5 years. My biggest problem is the nudge problem. I normally hold the wheel lightly and it doesn't think I am. When I do hold it tigher it often goes out of FSD without me knowing because it thought I took over. And yes prior to v12, even though I used it on every trip there were many times I knew better than to let it be driving. With v12 it does every trip end-to-end without intervention (except for gates). We also got an X just over a year ago and my wife now drives the Y ... with v12 it's finally time she may starts using it. (She was very unhappy when I sold her car and made her drive the Y, she heated the regenerative braking . A few months later when she started driving her car we keep a our home up north all she did was complain about how it kept running away on her.) We're both now over 80 and it sees all around it (and we don't turn our bodies like we use to) and it reacts faster than we can. We do two 2,000 mile road trips a year and our average charging time last year was 13.5 minutes ... faster than we can shuffle to the bathroom and back.
You talked about round-abouts. We have a very busy two-lane one near our house ... with v11 I would take over as we arrived. With v12 I never worry about what it's going to do no matter how far around it's going. For over two years, my wife has driven 2 miles out of her way just to avoid it. As soon as I can get her to feel comfortable the car will drive her anywhere.

I loved this video, thank you for taking the time and effort to make it! FSD's come so far from your first FSD video (the first video I viewed of your channel), and the one you put out last year.
Some of the interesting parts of this video for me:
3:20 Y'all driving around in the N ATL burbs is surreal. I drive these roads regularly.
5:32 It taking these right turn lanes appropriately without stopping. In old versions, I'd imagine it stops at the red light even though that right turn onto McFarland has right of way at all times because it has its own lane.
6:30 The confidence to proceed with the left turn despite the oncoming van having its own right of way too. It doesn't freak out like old versions, or even a person not familiar with the intersection might. Then the immediate move over to the right lane smoothly. Waiting for all of those bicyclists to cross, very naturally and not freaking them out was cool. Only thing it screwed up at Halcyon was that wacky park job. 😆
10:53 Nice U-Turn and commit despite the light turning yellow.
14:38 Caney after that three-way stop is a super tight road with practically no shoulders. I see plenty of people driving left of center while going around those bends... it looks like FSD handles it well.
15:40 You did this intersection if your first FSD video and it did terribly with it. Huge improvement. Very natural being somewhat occluded by the median.
19:25 Solid merge onto the freeway. You can imagine an all EV future where vehicles have more or less the same acceleration and one slow accelerator is not holding up the whole line of cars.
19:40 I think the reason it chooses not to complete the lane change is because of the solid white line coming in for that Kimball Bridge construction project. It didn't handle it very gracefully, but it seemed like it was more awkward than dangerous.
20:50 Waiting that late to get into the exit lane would stress me out too, especially cutting in right behind another vehicle. I do think Kim's thesis may be right though. How often do you see humans do that very thing, wait until the last moment and cut in giving no room to someone in front, behind, or both? FSD being trained on human data is a double-edged sword.
22:12 To confidently go around the truck moving left of center like that is impressive. No big deal for us humans because understand the rules have exceptions for this scenario, but for FSD, it has data showing it exceptions, but it doesn't know WHY the exception exists. Hence why the confidence impresses me.
    23:20 That park job. 🤣
25:30 It definitely saw those pedestrians headed toward the road quickly. That cautiousness is super-encouraging. As it improves over time, imagine its ability to stop for animals and children dashing into the road.
29:23 This is simultaneously frightening and super impressive. That was the right maneuver and technically very safe, but yes, all those cars in the right lane (with a yield)... that's a lot of volume to make a left in front of with confidence. I love it.
On the issue of price, I do think the $12k is absurd until it is legit FSD, sleep in the backseat style. Perhaps you guys consider the $200/mo trial on your X? It'd take 5 years of subscription before costing as much as the $12k... Do you think you'll have your current X for that long? Great video. I love watching the progress of FSD and I've not found any other ATLiens sharing their experiences with it. Thanks again for your efforts!

We tried it on a road trip down from Atlanta to Orlando. It was great except the speed limit signs in Ga. We have a minimum speed limit sign and then a speed limit sign. The car was constantly going from 75 to 40 and back. Wasn’t a confidence builder. Once we were in Florida it was almost perfect! They list both speeds on the same sign and FSD reads that properly. If they fix the minimum speed limit problem it would great.

I frequently use a two lane section US Hwy 15 in NC and because of the lack of speed limit signs FSD thinks the speed limit is 15 when it’s 55. Knowing this I switched out of letting FSD anticipate the speed of the car and just set my max speed at 60 which has worked great.

I purchased FSD in 2020 and with this new version 12.3.3 it is finally very useful. I think it will be even better when they adjust the neural networks to rewrite the code for the freeway. I do think that they should make FSD in two formats. Personal use and commercial use. When he talks about how much money it is worth I’m never gonna use my car as a Robo taxi. I will only use it for personal use so the value of it is not worth the same as someone that would use it to make income. They should just have two versions of it. Also, I think that if they made it lifetime transferable one vehicle at a time I would probably pay up to 15,000 for that because I know that if I have an accident or traded in I’m not going to lose it Also if I ever rented a Tesla it would carryover to me in a rental. I do have a reservation for the cyber truck and I had checked the box for the option to get it at $6000 so I am trusting they’re going to honor that because I put my money down under those conditions. if for some reason, they don’t honor the 6000 then I will not purchase the cyber truck.

Great video! I've been using FSD Beta for 2+ years and as you are seeing, the progress is really impressive!
Regarding the speed limit setting to 40 on the highway, this version mistakes the "Minimum Speed" limit signs on highways as actual speed limit signs. This is new behavior in v12, and I've seen it throughout the highways here in GA, hope they fix it soon.

Have used it each time I drive and have run into a few supervised moments after having used the accelerator with FSD then questioned whether FSD would stop as expected (after having taken my foot off accelerator/ gotten up to speed; sometimes not fast enough.)

Now I engage it everywhere. It has pulled into parking lots and parked itself too. It’s awesome. Cannot wait for more advances.

12:10 The yellow phase of a traffic light is meant for the driver to come to a safe stop when the light turns Red. „Gunning it" is a very bad habit and leads to accidents, or at the very least makes other traffic participants very uncomfortable.
I am glad to see that FSD seems to do the right thing in these situations.

Thanks for the great FSD drive and your honest comments. I just bought a used 2018 Model X with EAP as my 2nd place holder vehicle patiently (not really) waiting for my Cybertruck Reservation. I upgraded the MX to HW 3 which allows FSD. EAP to FSD upgrade is $6K and the FSD subscription price for EAP owners is $99/mo. Since I haven't been offered the free FSD trial on any of the family's Tesla's (2-Model 3's, a Model Y and now the X). I think I will subscribe to FSD with the X and see how that goes. I'm a person who likes to drive which is one of the reasons I love Tesla's but I'm not getting any younger and having FSD for road trips would be nice. EAP is fine for Highway driving but the places we like to go often are on older roads where the EAP features are useless. Your drive gives me hope ... thanks again Kim and PJ. 👍👍

We've had FSD since December of 2021. Now our FSDv12 occasionally misses speed limit signs, but we like it a lot better than we did version 11. We basically stopped using v11 because it did phantom braking on the highway and took the wrong exits sometimes. It was a pain in the neck. Now we have high hopes that FSD will be very smooth and safe by the end of the year.

My experience, I had some interesting situations, FSD stopped at a Traffic light making a Right Turn on red (allowed in BC) but it did not proceed, I missed the pedestrian that actually finally started waking across from the right to left (he was hidden offset to a light stand that blocked my view), 2 sets of eyes are better than one set, Awestruck with how it is working. Today, it allowed a car entering from a mall access lane proceed in front as we were holding at a red light, very human like, the driver waived us thanks. it hit a light about 1 second it changed from green to yellow and it proceeded through, I would have done the same. Other longer yellow it stops for. Great technology!!! I really like how it works without lane markings, a lot of lane markings including the yellow line in the middle and the white lines have worn out over the winter here on the Sunshine Coast BC, but it drives like a professional!

For better experience with merging on and off freeways that you are familiar with manually using your turn signal way ahead of the exit or as soon as you can on entrance is a better experience than letting the car go to the end of the on ramp or change lanes at the last minute on the off ramp.

FSD also likes lane marking lines. Where there are no lines (like roundabouts) she likes to get real snug on the curbs. So be attentive with those islands like in the beginning of the video when going full speed if the lanes aren’t clearly marked because it just takes longer to register.

60% was interstate and the rest was city driving and no disconnects going there and one coming back to my office. I actually disconnected it because it wanted to get in a right lefthand turnlane and I wanted to be in the left lefthand turnlane so it really didn't do anything wrong.

Too much phantom braking for me in 11.3 In 12.3Most things are great, keeping too close the the right side of the road and running over drain covers is something I would normally avoid but it seems to prefer being there.
