Thanks you for your comments! I do my best to keep up with them for the first few days after a video comes out, but due to the volume of comments on all of my videos, and to the general hustle and bustle of life, I must give up the fight after a while. If you are leaving a question four or more days after a video comes out I can't guarantee I'll see it, but perhaps one of my other viewers knows the answer and can help out. Thanks in advance to those who contribute and share their knowledge. Cheers and stay safe everyone!

I too dismissed it initially, but I kept seeing them in the shop and liked them more in real life than in photographs. I ended up taking one for a half hour test ride. The handling is surprisingly intuitive, and the bike feels very stable through corner transitions. The engine is pretty responsive and the gearbox is sweet and very positive. I didn’t get to take it on any dirt roads but I reckon it would work well. Anything up to 120km/hr and this bike is sweet. I think it would make a great commuter and weekend explorer, especially in Australia where our rural roads can just transition from bitumen to dirt and back rather suddenly.

I'm not currently a rider, but I really enjoyed this review. Every other video I've seen on this bike was on roads, and only talked about potential off-road capabilities, with varying opinions given. It was great to see someone show the capabilities and short comings in a fair and honest demonstration.

Hello, I have had a CL500 for 8 months and have driven 11,000 km. It's just comfortable... Having about 70 horses is ideal. I don't see a replacement yet. I recommend.

I sat on one at my local dealership and the bike fit like a well worn pair of blue jeans. I’m 6’ even. I was very impressed with the “fit and finish” like they say. It presented itself well and was just such a sweet little package! I was glad to see from the video that it handles gravel roads well. As for off road,I’ll leave that for my dirt bike! 👍🙂

That's what you're really buying with the CL vs Rebel500. Seat and foot control posture. I'm glad they offer this as the Rebel is uncomfortable for me...and my current CB has 58000 miles on it, so I expect a forced retirement any day now....and have to buy another bike.
One more layer of closed cell foam atop that seat and the CL500 fits me like a 70s CB 750. I couldn't change the Rebel to fit.
So for Honda it is CBX or CL500 for me, but there are other brand options too.

Have done the naked and sports bike thing although over the last 40 odd years they’ve become way too complicated and expensive so a nice little bike like that would be great just to putter around on even here in Australia. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I will be getting mine next Tuesday. I had a 360cc Honda Scrambler years ago, and in almost everything, that bike was identical to the street version of it. This new one looks too heavy for the dirt, exactly like my 70s model, but you could anywhere on the street with plenty of power, and she would go beautifully airborne off of those railroad crossings that looks like ramps. I would call a Honda Scrambler an agile go anywhere street bike. Next Tuesday!😊

    Kids:
CLs have always been refit CBs, so this is consistent for Honda. The XLs were streetified Honda dirt bikes.
I started on a 1971 CL and moved to a CB. For my light trail use, both bikes behaved the same with hybrid tires. The upswept tailpipe allows you to jump things, but the suspension really doesn't unless you like banging really hard bottoming out the rear shocks.
So a good bike for 85% highway and 15% maintained forestry roads with some small creek and bog crossings.
The rebel 500 is really more of a Honda CB than the CBX is. Cosmetics to look like a cruiser.
I live on a very steep gravel forestry road with an old 1980s CB with street tires, so I go offroad every day leaving and coming home, and there's a creek crossing....so ANY bike can really do that, even with low pipes.
I would call those water nervous flankings, not water crossings. Go through the middle after lining up and be done with it.

Honda just did fantastic job with that 471cc engine. Five models: F, X, R, Rebel, Scrambler. Covering pretty much all categories. Light enough to carry on hitch carrier of full size truck when going on vacation, powered enough to tour on 2000 miles trip and economical to be daily commuter. I can't think of any engine/bike combo coming close other than maybe KTM 390ADV or kawi Versys 300 but, neither is as good or complete.

@@RKmndo The hitch rating on my Silverado is around 800lbs. The bike with carrier is way below 500lbs. Even though all of it goes against rear axle, I think it is all within spec. Gas alone can be dropped 20lbs. DR650 is good bike but, tube tires, uncomfortable seat, oil cooling. Husky 701 is good power/weight but $12k. If Tracer 7 was available, it could fit. This is the first review of taking the CL500 though its paces off-road. Nice job! I was just wondering why you didn't ride it through the puddles of water in the first place rather than trying to go around them. The high muffler would have helped with that right? And part of the fun of such off-road endeavors with your scrambler is just that. Face the challenge straight on and plow through the muck and get yourself all dirty. :)

Like you I´ve considered it "lukewarm" and not a real option. Need perhaps to change my view after having seen this. The X will propably suit me better just because of the touring capacity but on the other hand my big touring days are behind me so I mostly enjoy myself pottering about near my home. And the price of this one is tempting. The new Triumph (400X) looks better in pictures but the price here (Sweden) is not yet confirmed for that one. I´ve always been a bit of a fanboy of Honda as a brand, they make reliable bikes and I´ve owned a few over the years. I ride a Kawa Vulcan now, and have been for a long time and it has been bomb proof all the time that I´ve owned it. So propably not willing to deviate from japanese bikes no matter how tempting some from the competition may look. Hell it’s banned in entire continents from even being sold to the public. I already have tried and liked the power train in the CB500X but that bike is too heavy for my needs. This looks like a great option for back roads and gentle off road, but I think the KTM 390 Adventure has the edge, being lighter, with similar bhp and better suspension, as long as you can cope with the seat height. I own a 21 CB500X and had pondered trading it for the new CL due to me being short and just using the bike for local country back roads. My main gripes with my CB500X are snatchy 1st gear throttle response, buzzy sustained vibes from 55mph up, and seat height. I have quelled the vibes with Grip Puppies and handlebar weights. A Corbin seat also helped slightly with the felt vibes in the butt. My quadry is not knowing if the CL is leaps and bounds better in these 3 areas? We are not allowed to take test rides where I live.
