So sorry you were feeling poorly and hope that’s cleared up. I agree on why second readings sometimes are even more enjoyable. I think when you know what’s going to happen, you’re not in such a hurry and you can slow down and enjoy some of the moments you might have missed that first time through. Have a great week!

    Hi Emma!
If you’re looking for a page-turner book, I would really recommend “ Mornings in Jenin” by the Palestinian novelist Susan Abulhawa. It talks about how Palestinians struggle because of the Israeli occupation. Really hope you would give it a go! 💗

I love Toronto, but the noise and concrete do get to me. When I need to recharge, I like to do one of the following:
    1) The Brickworks for a gentle hike and some green space.
    2) Peruse Type Books on Queen St. and sit in Trinity Bellwoods Park.

Change is never easy, more so change in a new location. Strange place, strange people, strange operating hours (like the clinic) but that's what makes it all a challenge. You my dear Emma can overcome this. Just get it together, be in the zone and take it one task at a time. Each time you hit a setback, just find a way around it and get what you need done done. There's a lot of positive energy from people you know and don't know personally all rooting for you, don't let that go to waste.

Besides reading, yoga is my biggest passion and it helped me in so many ways! I’ve started in a yoga studio and then continued at home (hatha yoga and ashtanga yoga). I could recommend a few teachers if you are interested to deep dive into the world of yoga even more, it’s life changing.
Living in a big city can be overwhelming especially if you are not used to it but it can also be a life lesson and looking from this perspective there are lots of things you can do and explore to help your mind get used with the idea of living there. Also, people are very interested to know how life in Toronto is like so it would be nice to see vlogs like this from you. 😉

If you're still looking for something from Nicaragua, you could see if you can find a collection by Ernesto Cardenal. He was a poet and a Catholic priest/liberation theologian who also managed to get appointed Minister of Culture during Nicaragua's period of socialist Sandinista governance (and as a result got a significant amount of heat directed at him personally from Pope John Paul II). I can't say I've read a very great deal of his work myself (although I have enjoyed what little I've read, and I've been meaning to read more soon), but he's a really fascinating figure and his poetry is very well loved.

nationality based recommendations: SHADOW OF THE WIND!!!! (Spain), A Man Called Ove (Sweden), City of Brass (Egypt, kinda), The Chestnut Man (Denmark)
on the health care thing (don't continue if this is a stress point for you): as bad as it is in ON, NB healthcare is in MAJOR crisis. If you need to go the ER, you normally would have expected to be there for 6-12 hrs pre Covid, and now its like 24-36+ hrs, so 2 hours wait would seem lovely to me (I'm not minimizing the fact that even that is a long wait, but I wish I could have access to services that quickly). A bunch of more rural hospitals are closing their ERs or severely limiting their hours. There have been like 3 ppl that died in ERs while waiting for assistance in the past like 2 months, and the whole system seems to only be getting worse. Hoping some change is on the horizon (irony, considering that's the name of our health system 🙃)

One Hundred Years of Solitude seems comparable to The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman, it's about so much of humanity, a piece of history most don't know about, has some light magic realism, and is just elegantly written.
Page 1 - 'We came like doves across the desert in a time when there was nothing but death' & 'Everywhere I walked my fate walked with me, sewn to my feet with red thread.'

I didn't know what it was and I had to endure it for a week, trying to get an "appointment" at a walk-in clinic until I got tired and went to a private clinic and I got an appointment the same day I called. It took her less than 30 minutes to help me and do the maneuver to get rid of my vertigo and I had to pay 225$... :')

Hey Emma! Not sure if you would like it but I would rec "The Book of Disappearance" by Ibtisam Azem which would cover both Israel/Palestine in your around the world challenge. It is a really interesting book based on the premise "What if all the Palestinians in Israel disappeared?" It has themes of space and ownership, occupation and exile, memory and loss, told through the dual narratives of Alaa, a Palestinian living in Tel Aviv and Ariel, an Israeli neighbour of his.
