  • The patient at risk and resuscitation team (PAART) at the Royal Free are celebrating both the success of an app they have developed to help fight the disease and being awarded for a national Nursing Times award. The following film demonstrates the six interventions for patients who are suffering severe sepsis. The steps are patient receives oxygen, intravenous antibiotics and fluid resuscitation, have blood cultures taken and fluid balance and blood lactate measured.
The number one aim of our staff is to provide world class care to every patient, every day. However the trust has recognised that sepsis is sometimes hard to diagnose and the six medical interventions need to be delivered quickly, in a high pressure environment -- that is why a tool such as the app is a valuable bedside aid.

@@mathan6473 no, there is not. people like you are the reason that some switch from their scientifically proven medical care to these "herbal remedies" and die as a result. fuck off.

I’m a care assistant and when we’re doing our basic training they don’t mention sepsis or how to spot the signs, I think they should.

Apparently I had sepsis from a severe kidney infection that got into my bloodstream.
All I remember was not being able to stay conscious, random spasms and shaking fits where I couldn’t breathe, and needles being poked in me. Luckily that level of illness only lasted 3 days, I could then stay conscious but couldn’t stand up.
I was kind of confused, like I needed to go for a pee and I tried to get up but just fell back down. The nurse was like “you can’t do that you’re very sick Amanda” and I was just like… I don’t understand I’m 25 I can go over there. Tried again but I couldn’t even sit up. My blood pressure was low I think it’s why, it’s like if I wasn’t lying down the blood cut off to my brain or something lol.
I was on a drip for antibiotics and fluids to help the blood pressure situation. Took me a week to be able to sit up and not pass out or fall down due to weakness. My husband took me out in a wheelchair because I wanted to go outside but I was too weak.
Eventually after 2 weeks I could get up and move around. They kept me another week because I think due to how severely ill I was they didn’t want to be too quick to let me go. But I was like I WANNA GO HOOOMMEE lol.
It’s horrible, it was my drs fault he misdiagnosed my kidney infection (when it was mild enough for oral painkillers) as back problems. I told him my lips kept going blue and I shake and he was like “meh, that’s just the pain don’t worry”.
I could of died, shoulda sued them lol

I just got out of the icu and I am currently recovering on the lower level care floor right now, a week ago (Sunday) I came to the ER after being so sick all weekend, my whole body felt like it got run over by a train (literally) I couldn’t walk I was disoriented had a fever was shaky and breathing shallow and my blood pressure was 70/52 as it turns out I was in septic shock, I have a pretty existing liver disease and the septic shock started wreaking my liver even worse and they couldn’t get my blood pressure up, I almost died in the icu that night and I’m only 21 I will never forget laying there screaming in pain as my whole abdomen was on fire and I could feel the pressure building on my spleen and liver, this is no joke guys. Please be careful and stay healthy, god bless!

My grandma had hip surgery and developed pneumonia and was close to going septic. I think she may developed septic shock (instinct, but no evidence) and she died a year ago this month. Yes, it does need quick attention as said in the video

Hello, I've been diagnosed with folliculitis since 2013 caused by staphylococcus infection. I also had furnacles & fear that I may have Sepsis. I heard that this is a uncurable deadly disease & I'm afraid to die from this. I don't know what to do.

Shouldn't you also give corticosteroids to prevent further blood thickening due to vasodilatation?

Although it makes sense it is not done, as this can lower blood pressure even further, thus creating more problems than solutions

@John Levison Natural remedies aren't going to do jack squat to stop your body from literally tearing itself apart, as in the case with sepsis.
