Arkadas, your point is well taken. I am an American who is a huge fan of the Turkey I encountered as a US fighter pilot cooperating in NATO air exercises with my Turkish comrades in the 1980s. It was the Turkey of Ataturk's dream, a secular republic which honored its connections with Western Civilizational values. It was a Turkey that possessed a well deserved reputation for being one of the most hospitable and welcoming cultures in the entire world. I loved that Turkey! My Uncle Fred, was among the British artillery battery that liberated Bergen Belsen. He was a corporal who drove around a unit photographer.He was given a set of 50 photographs, as a reminder, which he annotated. My cousin has these images,they show the dreadful suffering and cruelty of the Nazi regime. I grew up, as many of us did in the UK, committed to the furtherance of the state of Israel. My Uncle returned to civilian life as the village greengrocer, he never forgot what he had witnessed and the wickedness that human beings are capable of. One of the telling things he related was the youth of the guards,how the 40 female guards were the most implacable, the oldest of whom was 26.

@gillps5130 that is a myth. Many are from Israel all along, but most have left their original countries, such as Iran, Yemen, Egypt, and so on since being "evicted." Only about half or less are most recently from Europe in their diaspora journey.

Douglas murray in my opinion was an islamophobe who’s found a reason, platform justification to espouse Arab hate in Israel’s situation. He’s pro Israel because you are in line with European civilisation, anti Arab and ok with homosexuality. In the UK he’s regarded as extreme and fringe right wing. There’s no evidence Jeremy Corbyn was an anti-semite.
It's the Western fallacy: projecting our values onto others'. We need to move past it. Those who want to adopt western values should be welcomed and accepted, those who oppose our values should be prevented from residing amongst us. The scope is wide for ordinary people to live in harmony, but a line must also be drawn.
We might need to define what we mean by "ordinary people" so that we don't assume too much, but otherwise I completely agree, there needs to be a set of social values that defines our societies. There is no need for it be exactly the same for each nation, but we must be able to agree on enough common ground.
Since October 7, I’ve tried to avoid the antisemitic reporting which a lot of UK reporters do. So, I hadn’t heard of Douglas Murray till I saw him pop up on TH-cam after October 7. At first. I didn’t click on his videos cause I didn’t want to hear more hate against us, but I gave in, and now he’s my media hero. He doesn’t change his view on Israel, according to the beliefs of who he’s speaking to, and he chooses wisely who he speaks to. Unlike Piers Morgan of late. Piers is mostly good too, but he needs to take a leaf out of Douglas’ book on October 7 media coverage.
Fellow Aussie here. I completely agree. Unfortunately, the tenacity and self-determination of the Jewish people, not to mention their success under centuries of hate and persecution, is one of the reasons why anti-semitism persists in the West. Jews have never seen themselves as underdogs or victims, and for that they are hated.
I migrated to Australia from uk in 1989. I also lived and worked in the Middle East where I saw and heard some unspeakable things. Many actually hate us mainly for our u wise involvement in their equally unwise war. The events of 7/10 did not entirely surprise me. I will always side with Israel. I was born 20 years after the Second World War. In the UK I grew up listening to stories of the war and the Nazi party and what happened with Jewish people during the war. Even as a child I realised and knew instinctivly how evil this was. And that this can never ever be allowed to happen ever again.
You suffer from the boomer disease that sees WWII as this unique event and every subsequent event must be framed in the same manner. It is myopia and actually dangerous to view the world through this lense. My parents and in-laws also suffer from this and it prevents them from understanding the world and their place in it. I've spent the last 3 months having my eyes opened and my heart broken thanks to people like Douglas and many honest channels and books ... I can't live with my head in the sand after Oct 7th. The truth of some humanity or I should say lack of humanity is very distressing. I never realised that I was living with the privilege of coming from a cultural Judeo-Christian background whose morality allowed me the right to dissent, to be atheist, to be a lefty etc I am now at painful odds with some of my naive politics. Well said as usual, Douglas. Great interview, Dr. Yozevich. I think that we all need to pay close attention; Israel is by its nature an extension of the West in ideology and religion (Judeo/ Christianity). We are witnessing a generation of spoiled 'children' rebelling against the very freedoms their upbringing has allowed them to enjoy and without any sense of gratitude (much as children tend to be with their parents). Where in the world could they hold such hostile and intolerant opinions and not face jail or worse? The tragedy is Hamas blind hatred is so intense they appear willing to sacrifice countrymen and women for their ideology...the same way Hitler did with Germany and we know how that ended. I don't expect the Jewish people will ever allow themselves to be in that position again to that extent and neither should the world. If we don't speak out for Israel, we are tolerating this....they will come for the rest of us.

Douglas, you are so right that the goal of advocating for the principle and practice of free speech is not to simply acheive free speech in and of itself, but to use it as a tool to pursue universal truths. If it is found that the unquestioned result is to validate moral relativism in which there is no ultimate moral truth, then we are doomed.
I’ve had only one difference so far with D Murray-the brutality in Ukraine-and that’s quite alright. He is beyond brilliant and eloquent and truthful, and his his remark here that “we’re cutting off the branches of the tree we’re on” is exactly and devastatingly where we are.
As a non Muslim who grew up in an Islamic country I used to be antisemitic by osmosis. It's so pervasive that even someone like me who has no religious or historical issues with Jews felt that way. Non Muslims in the west have no idea how bad this situation really is.

Time if the Prophet Daniel. There were other scrolls and books before that even. Ethiopian Church had the written BIBLE plus a couple add’l books 200 years before the Biblical Cannon was created, and less than a century post Christs Ascension. I know the history and as the Quran (written 60years post Mohammad) states: the people of the Book are the true Authority and should be deferred to, as the true Authority, the Bible is true and can not be added to or taken away from. Also, Qumran had Dead Sea Scrolls that were written 1st Century AD, and the words, in context are EXACTLY the same, which adds even more Authority and Authenticity to both The Torah, Pentateuch, Book of Isaiah, Daniel, Enoch, and commentaries. You should read the Bible, a divinely inspired WORD of God.
To be fair, most of his teachings weren’t written down until a century after the events, so more like an afterthought really. And you do know that Muslims worship the SAME GOD (to use your emphasis) and at least they recognise Jesus as a true prophet. Something to think about perhaps?

My Uncle Fred, was among the British artillery battery that liberated Bergen Belsen. He was a corporal who drove around a unit photographer.He was given a set of 50 photographs, as a reminder, which he annotated. My cousin has these images,they show the dreadful suffering and cruelty of the Nazi regime.
I grew up, as many of us did in the UK, committed to the furtherance of the state of Israel. My Uncle returned to civilian life as the village greengrocer, he never forgot what he had witnessed and the wickedness that human beings are capable of. One of the telling things he related was the youth of the guards,how the 40 female guards were the most implacable, the oldest of whom was 26.

A conversation with Douglas Murray is always good to listen to. It's not about finding people you completely agree with. Instead, it's better to listen to people who take the time to consider the question presented and the meaning of their words used to answer those questions.
Germany up to WW2 too had the lions share of intellectuals, like Israel it's humanity became mired in superiority, apartheid, occupation and ethnic cleansing. Then the Germans for decades after learned how nationalism through propaganda warped a country into people who had zero empathy and limited knowledge of the people they oppressed. Since October 7, I’ve tried to avoid the antisemitic reporting which a lot of UK reporters do. So, I hadn’t heard of Douglas Murray till I saw him pop up on TH-cam after October 7. At first. I didn’t click on his videos cause I didn’t want to hear more hate against us, but I gave in, and now he’s my media hero. He doesn’t change his view on Israel, according to the beliefs of who he’s speaking to, and he chooses wisely who he speaks to. Unlike Piers Morgan of late. Piers is mostly good too, but he needs to take a leaf out of Douglas’ book on October 7 media coverage.

Unfortunately, the tenacity and self-determination of the Jewish people, not to mention their success under centuries of hate and persecution, is one of the reasons why anti-semitism persists in the West. I migrated to Australia from uk in 1989. I also lived and worked in the Middle East where I saw and heard some unspeakable things. I will always side with Israel. I was born 20 years after the Second World War. In the UK I grew up listening to stories of the war and the Nazi party and what happened with Jewish people during the war. Even as a child I realised and knew instinctivly how evil this was. I've spent the last 3 months having my eyes opened and my heart broken thanks to people like Douglas and many honest channels and books ... I can't live with my head in the sand after Oct 7th. The truth of some humanity or I should say lack of humanity is very distressing. I never realised that I was living with the privilege of coming from a cultural Judeo-Christian background whose morality allowed me the right to dissent, to be atheist, to be a lefty etc I am now at painful odds with some of my naive politics. I think that we all need to pay close attention; Israel is by its nature an extension of the West in ideology and religion (Judeo/ Christianity). We are witnessing a generation of spoiled 'children' rebelling against the very freedoms their upbringing has allowed them to enjoy and without any sense of gratitude (much as children tend to be with their parents). Where in the world could they hold such hostile and intolerant opinions and not face jail or worse? The tragedy is Hamas blind hatred is so intense they appear willing to sacrifice countrymen and women for their ideology...the same way Hitler did with Germany and we know how that ended. I don't expect the Jewish people will ever allow themselves to be in that position again to that extent and neither should the world. If we don't speak out for Israel, we are tolerating this....they will come for the rest of us.

Now it's a vitriol exchange between deeply ignorant attention seeking narcissists in cage match spectacles aimed at creating viral moments. This video is NOT THAT. Wonderful interview!
Douglas, you are so right that the goal of advocating for the principle and practice of free speech is not to simply acheive free speech in and of itself, but to use it as a tool to pursue universal truths. If it is found that the unquestioned result is to validate moral relativism in which there is no ultimate moral truth, then we are doomed.
I’ve had only one difference so far with D Murray-the brutality in Ukraine-and that’s quite alright. He is beyond brilliant and eloquent and truthful, and his his remark here that “we’re cutting off the branches of the tree we’re on” is exactly and devastatingly where we are.

As a non Muslim who grew up in an Islamic country I used to be antisemitic by osmosis. It's so pervasive that even someone like me who has no religious or historical issues with Jews felt that way. Non Muslims in the west have no idea how bad this situation really is.

I am a Christian. 2,000 years ago, some very brave Jewish people believed in a Man named Jesus. Their bravery and forethought to write down his teachings allowed me to learn about him. God in the flesh. They cemented his Invitation to Follow Him, in stone for eternity.
I Stand with Israel because we worship the SAME GOD. I am not Jewish, but they are Gods chosen people defending their Birthright. They have the right to defend themselves, protect their people (ALL PEOPLE) and Ezekiel 33 states that when God reunited His People from all the Nations and brought them back to Judea and Samaria, he instilled in them a New Heart for Him.
I will support that and them FOREVER.

The Torah was written in Babylon when the Jews were exiled. Time if the Prophet Daniel. There were other scrolls and books before that even.
Ethiopian Church had the written BIBLE plus a couple add’l books 200 years before the Biblical Cannon was created, and less than a century post Christs Ascension.
I know the history and as the Quran (written 60years post Mohammad) states: the people of the Book are the true Authority and should be deferred to, as the true Authority, the Bible is true and can not be added to or taken away from.
Also, Qumran had Dead Sea Scrolls that were written 1st Century AD, and the words, in context are EXACTLY the same, which adds even more Authority and Authenticity to both The Torah, Pentateuch, Book of Isaiah, Daniel, Enoch, and commentaries.
You should read the Bible, a divinely inspired WORD of God.
His name wasn’t Jesus
To be fair, most of his teachings weren’t written down until a century after the events, so more like an afterthought really. And you do know that Muslims worship the SAME GOD (to use your emphasis) and at least they recognise Jesus as a true prophet. Something to think about perhaps?
