Well when you think of Lotus, you probably think of classic, lightweight cars such as the Elise. However, Lotus has taken on a different direction with the Emira, and it now has daily driver sports cars like the Porsche Cayman in its sights!
For starters, the weight’s certainly up compared to past models, with the Emira tipping the scales at just over 1,400kg. But there’s a good reason for that! This sports car now comes packed with all-new safety tech along with a load of creature comforts, from ambient lighting through to electric seats!
You’ll also get a choice of two engines, a 3.5-litre supercharged V6, or a 2-litre 4 cylinder turbo… The same engine as found in the all-new AMG A45 S! But what do you think - could the new Emira go toe-to-toe with the Porsche Cayman? You’ll have to join Mat to find out!

This car looks absolutely incredible, imo Lotus really nailed the design. The flowing lines, the footprint, the beautifully detailed exhaust pipes, the stunningly simple rims, that simple yet modern and sporty interior, everything. Especially at that price. Seems almost like a spiritual successor to the original R8 from '07

Lotus is definitely going in the right direction with this new Emira. If the company wants to survive, they had to build an everyday driver at a great price point that will sell a bunch of units and this looks like they nailed it. Wow, it's beautiful, priced great, and if their customer service at their dealerships becomes first-rate, I can see them selling a lot of these and retaining customers. This will be on my shortlist to test drive and possibly purchase for sure.
Yeah I'm glad they realized they needed to stop chasing weight loss for a while and just sell some solid cars at a competitive price.

Shame about the weight though. The price is right, the weight isn't. The price might be going in the right direction but the weight is sign that they are losing track of what Lotus is all about.
True and when they start getting money they still have chance at making those lightweight car by making some limited-production performance focus car like ferrari & lamborghini.

It's seriously a beautiful car, ideal for daily ride to work. No extreme-looking design on the rear like most supercars like Lamborghini and Ferrari. It's as beautiful as NSX Acura.
Lotus and Corvette are really paving the way for affordable supercars... shame that Maserati could have done the same with the mc20 but lost a really big opportunity...for non millionaire people the C8 and Emira just make so much sense, I would much rather pay 60/70k on a new one of these than pay double for a used lambo or ferrari, 1/4 of the price for 90%+ of the car, sign me in!

This is the first car in years which I feel like, they have done the job, finally. Taking the best elements from different brands and styling is spot on.
Also rather cheap. Its almost as if someone actully thought this one through. No compromises. Id buy one.

This is a beautiful car, well planned, practical, awesome sound, insane performance and most importantly -> it is affordable, with 80k you get a fully specced Lotus Emira that will give you a lot of good times and fun memories. This is the future for car manufacturers, instead of focusing on one-off super-expensive cars, they should focus on providing the common people who have average pay/income with affordable cars that are top quality in every way. Well done Lotus!

Final judgement reserved until there is a comprehensive driving review, but the styling, the hydraulic steering, the reasonable boot space, the solid looking build quality (whether they can keep that up for production is another matter), the engine/transmission options...a winner. But more than that, the pricing looks to be a killer.
This is one of those very rare cars where it seems both the accountants and engineers have done a fantastic job working together.

I noticed that too, and I'm in agreement with Mat, the AMG engine is a little magical beast, and a simple remap can bump it from 360(375 ) to 417hp/545nm which combined with all the other goodness Lotus are throwing into the car would make it a beast!
@@elmuerko Called me old fashioned, but a less stressed out proven mass produced 3.5l v6 supercharged toyota engine producing 416 hp is what I will be going with. The amg engine sounds very unreliable outputting the same 416hp out of a turbocharged 2.0l 4 cylinder, although undoubtedly with a lighter and purer driving experience.
@@elmuerko if it was 2.0 from Honda I would go for it but amg idk man that looks like expensive repair and maintenance, sorry but v6 Camry engine more reliable and cheaper to maintain

The Emira and the Evija have put Lotus back on the map. This price point is immensely appealing. With sufficient availability and post purchase servicing (parts availablity and no recalls) this will be a major W for them.

Serious buyer here,. Almost perfect but engine choices are a FAIL. Should have gone for the BMW straight turbo sixes. BMW S58 would be amazing with the manual.; This car is a bust, like the corvette C8 because it has no manual. And Yes, no one cares about trunks on mid engined cars so a straight 6 would fit. The search continues.
Looks to be a proper 'no excuses' design from Lotus. Everything about it looks right - exterior, interior, engine, performance, price. Being a Lotus you just know it's going to be fun to drive, yet (on first impressions) you won't need to qualify your choice. Fingers crossed that build quality and reliability are strong.
Emira is how modern Ferraris should have looked like
Well I have a 15 year old Elise and that is still going. They are better built than people think. I have way less issues with it than my Abarth 500.
Performance can be a little better. They reduce the power from the evora engines. It be nice if they tuned it to the evora 430 power figures. Yes, emission regulations suck.

From a supercharged v6? 500 is pushing it, imo. These things have to last somewhat through the warranty. 450 would be the upper end with warranty, I would think.

Lotus haven’t been doing good for years as a business, I’m sure they’ve been in administration before, not completely sure, but hopefully things look up for them and this car will definitely bring in the sales

The Evora was an amazing vehicle, and their attempt at a foil to the hard-nosed focus of the Elise/Exige. Unfortunately, since it didn't live up to the record the Esprit built for itself, it wasn't "good enough". This looks like it definitely is. I'll die laughing so hard if the next bit of news to come out is that there is a new Esprit, co-designed by Koenigsegg or Gordon Murray.
Well they sold the company to the Chinese regime and so are apparently not bothered by that regimes track record

The climate control knobs are also not electric, but are hydraulic so that you get more feedback

Without doubt YES!!! Never before have I just logged on to a manufactures website and without hesitation paid money to secure my slot on the looks and potential of a car alone. When most new cars appear to insist on fake scoops, ducts, grills, bulbous lights, incoherent styling lines to woo the buyer, out of the blue a pure and gorgeous shape comes along in the form of the Emira. It just stands out a million miles. Well done Lotus!!!

Reminds me of my boxster. Looks beautiful....absolutely gorgeous. Looking at the rear of the vehicle I see it has a great aero design. It's like when the air goes around the vehicle it gives the car a push at the end. The Hyundai Sonata has a similar design at the back. Great aero push for that air to travel faster down the length of the car

I would love to make the GR Yaris look as much as the base model as possible, and embarass every single BMW that wants to race.
They've took the best parts from every good car in it's class, then looked at where each of those cars failed in ergonomics (cup holders, space, storage etc), fixed those problems and made this absolutely beautiful piece of engineering. I'm having one!

I disagree on two counts.
1. This pisses all over the Corvette in the looks department. Sorry but it does.
2. Lotus are literally in another universe to Corvette when it comes to making great drivers cars that do what they are supposed to and can actually handle too.
P.s before you ask, yes I have driven a C8 and it feels like it's trying to kill you every time you touch the accelerator pedal. It's overpowered and twitchy with very little steering feel and average grip in the best conditions.

Its a similar weight to the Old Esprit V8 so for a larger car its not too bad. But certainly not in Elise weight territory.

For 80-90k it would be a great car but at 60k it is breathtaking. I mean as much as I love the German brands but why would you buy a Cayman, Z4 M40i oder TT RS, if you could have this instead. Especially the interior looks super premium. I am 100% sold for this car, if you can get one for like 45k Euros in 2 years.

@@No-ex3do Wait, that doesn't make any sense. I don't buy new cars cause it is a waist of money. Did it once with my M4 Comp. and it was stupid ... I lost like 30k Euros in 2 years. Thats why I bought every car used since then and will keep doing so. Unless I will ever have the chance to get a limited Ferrari, but that probably won't happen unless I will become a board member in my company...
@@patrickk.8155 there is a reason why they depreciate quality, the interiors deteriorate and have defects that can arise much quicker (not to mention retailers can do a great job of covering up defects, german cars are notorious for developing numerous and costly issues very early, also, their main components do not last long so their life is really like 1/4 the life of a Toyota or Honda.
Well the Porsche Cayman has imo a better Engine, a better Performance, a higher more reliable quality and obviously waaaaay better service. I also dont see this car being sold at 60k - after taxes and some additions you are most likely at ~80k and at that price point you can get a Porsche cayman GTS or even a Corvette C8 which has an even better performance and better sound. I dont think this Lotus will do so great considering its just a slightly heavier EVORA which also failed....
