Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple are my favorite bands. Bonham and Paice are two of the greatest drummers of all time. It's not easy to play like them ... but Yoyoka does it perfectly!

After watching this drum cover by Yoyoka, I watched other youtube drummers cover the same song but they just cannot equal Yoyoka. This kid is PHENOMENAL, simply AMAZING!
What always strikes me with Yoyoka is the FUN she has doing this incredible stuff. You realize that she has still more headroom to play with, she´s not stressed at all.

I watched Ian Paice react to this video ..He says it's perfect to the original and was mightily impressed. He was 20 something when he built this drum track and couldn't imagine playing drums this young let alone this energy level ..which took him years to reach .👍🏻☮❤

Well, the fact is: if I only hear to this without watching the video, for me is Deep Purple with Ian Paice on the drums. No doubt.
Ian said she hits harder than he does, it was a joy watching him watch her. Said it was the best cover he had ever heard of this song. I absolutely loved the rewind and then the stank face......I did the same thing!

You should very much listen to the original Deep Purple track. It WILL make you into a Deep Purple type of guy LOL !

I listened to the original by Deep Purple and am surprised that a drummer doesn't hear the difference! There is a class difference between the original and the cover.

The fills are on the original track. The song is insane for drums. I'm not a drummer but I am amazed that Ian Paice could do this song after playing 4 or 5 songs (they'd be like 10-20 minutes each with Deep Purple sometimes) and then carry on playing for another hour afterward. Night after night for the entire tour. I do know, even as a non-drummer, that Ian Paice has an INCREDIBLE one handed drum roll you should check out. It's probably a 1 minute long youtube video so no need to react to it but it's impressive nonetheless.
If you watch Paicey's reaction to this song, you really get the sense that he knows it's one of the most demanding in the catalog. At one point (just before the "intro" of the reprise chorus) he says "here's the part that I always get wrong."

Yeah, she's old enough now that she can do songs like this where the right tone from the drum can only be achieved by hitting it hard enough. Watch the tip of the stick. It's moving through every bit of three feet of arc, accelerating. What is yet to come as she gets older? She's reached "beast" level at 11 years of age.
Ian Paice (the Deep Purple drummer) did a reaction video to this and noted she was following the original recording, because over time he has changed it in a few places in live performances. She learns all these covers by ear, because she doesn’t read music.
He actually said she played it even more accurate than most adults he has seen try it. She is insanely good for any age, let alone a pre-teenager!

@jNBKozmosLLC as Ian Paice said in his commentary she's playing from the original master recording. As time went by after playing it many times he added little bits and made it more complex. Shes just playing from the original master so says the master himself. 😏😉😁😂 it was remasterd in 2002 it has the extra little bits I listened to both versions. I like it better with the extras hope yoyoka trys it some day.

Ian Paice was/is an absolute master. He deserves, along with the rest of Deep Purple, a lot more recognition than they have gotten over the years. Yoyoka here is spectacular and extremely accurate on the fills and everything. Another drummer that plays with a lot of fills and changes like this is Akane Hirose from Band-Maid. Well worth a listen, never boring.
For me, Ian Paice is as close that heavy rock got to producing a Buddy Rich. Of course, it comes to no surprise that Akane Hirose is a huge fan of Ian Paice. Although not overtly a clone. She plays with the same spirit and invention that Ian Paice has always played. As a matter of fact, I think that she surpasses Ian. She looks like she has more fun and and happier than Ian. Probably because the ladies in Band Maid actually like each other.

Nice video: great as always to hear your analysis. For me this is one of Yoyoka's best. It's got everything: speed, energy, groove, technical challenge, dynamics and stamina. And honestly she makes it look like it isn't stretching her all that much. Amazing!

I think my favourite part of your reactions to Yoyoka is that a kid drummer that is literally younger that the shirt I’m wearing is helping to teach a middle aged drummer about great classic rock drummers! Bonham, Moon, Paice, Ginger Baker are the foundation that Grohl, Chamberlain, Matt Cameron, Danny Carey etc built on. Keep it going this is fun.

Once you've moved through the rock greats and get to Ian Paice, your game has to reveal higher and higher skill levels. I've never understood how Ian's name doesn't automatically roll off the tongue of fans who routinely mention John Bonham, Neil Peart, and Keith Moon. I've seen all of those guys play live. Ian belongs at the top, in my opinion. Much like his former band. Ritchie Blackmore is obviously going to be the focal point anywhere that he goes, but Ian was the muscle that propelled all of those classics. His hand speed is otherworldly. Much like Yoyoka's is!
She is a Pro basically, if not she is a hairs width away.

Actually, you are wrong with respect to when she was endorsed by Pearl. You must have gotten that information off of Paice's reaction video. I do not know where he got that information, but he is incorrect. She was endorsed by Pearl when she was eight. She is the youngest drummer ever to have been endorsed by Pearl. Here is the video of her at the Pearl factory selecting drums for her signature set. Here is when she received the set and it is the set which she usually plays on at home. She pretty much sticks to the drums which came with the kit, but she will change her snare drum for different shell sounds depending upon what she is drumming to.

So, I’m a non drummer who barely plays an acoustic guitar so don’t make fun of me; what blows me away watching this young lady is her “meter?”, I mean she is just hauling ass and comes out of these amazing fills without missing a beat....I get excited every time I make it through 12 bars without blowing it and I go from like 90 bpm to 150 bpm, there just does not seem to be any rushing it no matter how fast she’s playing....I practice daily with a metronome (ya right), but how much of what I see here is innate ability? The few times I’ve played with a drummer I sit there at a loss of what to do because I’m so busy listening to all that’s going on.....and I end up strumming the beat and just pounding the living crap out of my poor Yamaha - I would be petrified to play with her.....

That fill where you pause and ask if it's in the original, is actually not in the original. She fills with triplets instead of quadruplets and walks down the drums after he starts singing the lyric "burn..." as opposed to just before. I've actually been fascinated with that particular fill because, even though it's different, it works really with what the rest of the song is doing in that moment, and in my opinion, is better than the original.
Good catch. Most people are not going to pick up the subtle changes Yoyoka does on some of the covers she drums to. I noticed this when I first became aware of her. In some cases, you think that maybe she should have been the studio drummer on the original. Probably the best and most overt example of her altering the base groove is what she did to Cyndi Lauper's Girls Just Want to Have Fun. I have considered her more like a Hal Blaine, Jeff Porcoro or Jim Gordon, who went insane, but all had special abilities to put together fills which enhanced the groove of a song. Yoyoka is no different in that respect. She hears something and her hands just happen to add a little interpretation of her own into the groove. She has an uncanny way to drive the beat of a song, even when she is playing to a recording.
I am not sure just how she is going to end up after she finishes school. She already is a proven studio drummer, but a lot of the current mainstream music is electronic garbage. The lyrics are garbage. Hollywood has gained control of the music industry and will continue to push the current non musical trash on people until they finally realize that nobody is listening. People want to listen to music which has a life and a soul to the sound. As it is what the corporate executive believe that it is all about making money and not spending it, we will continue to be told by them that we are listening to the best talent in world. Hollywood is not interested in paying half a million dollars to properly engineer an album. They would rather put that money into some weird garbage video with their singers who can't sing and can't dance. Who says that frontmen/women have to sing and dance. When did this become the new standard? There are a lot of talented musicians out there and bands which are being totally ignored by the music industry. That has not changed, it is the music industry which has changed. What really concerns me about Yoyoka is when you look at Senri Kawaguchi and Akane Hirose and how they have been ignored. Two of the best drummers in the world and look at how they have been received and Yoyoka Soma is now in that same conversation. The best gig Yoyoka has going right now is that the big corporations are paying her to do commercials. Good for her.
