    The moment in The Empire Strikes back when Leia “hears” Luke calling her for help as he was hanging from the bottom of Cloud City was foreshadowing that Leia had a twin Force connection with Luke. When you rewatch it knowing they are siblings it really makes sense.
    I also like to think there’s a moment too when Obi-Wan sees Luke and Leia running to the falcon while he is fighting Vader on the Death Star in the first film. Obi-Wan sees the twins and gives Vader a wry grin just before Vader cuts him down. It’s almost like he’s thinking “There’s your kids Anakin and they’re going to save the Galaxy...”

    You’re correct. The original actor in Vader’s costume played the ghost at the end. His facial expression was a beaming smile straight at Luke. The original video is on TH-cam. Fifteen years later, after the first prequel movie- as I recall- Lucas pasted in Hayden’s face. I believe this damages Luke’s victory in rescuing Anakin from the Dark Side. An older Anakin means he’s in the Light Side at the point of death.

    • @SofaandChill
      @SofaandChill  3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Ahh yeah that's a great point mate. He finally turned back to the light side right before his death which is what they should have show., Totally agree 👍

    • @k1productions87
      @k1productions87 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@SofaandChill Fortunately the original actor was still seen in the moment when Luke took Vader's mask off, so he remained in the film in some form.
      However, others were not so lucky. Lucas had replaced the original voice actor for Boba Fett with the actor from the later Episode 2 prequel, which not only removed a much better performance in Empire (in my opinion), but especially heinous.... the original actor's name was removed from the credits entirely. That most definitely rubs me the wrong way.

    • @michaelhoward142
      @michaelhoward142 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Not so. The original actor in Vader's suit was David Prowse, who played the role in the original trilogy. Sebastian Shaw played the part when Vader's mask is removed at the end of Return of the Jedi -- and Anakin's Force-ghost before George Lucas changed it to Hayden Christensen in the "special edition" version.

    • @BondFreek
      @BondFreek 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      At the end of the movie that is not David Prowse as Anakin Skywalker. George Lucas casted a different actor to play Anakin Skywalker without the helmet/Force ghost. You never get to see David Prowse in the Star Wars movies. Ironically, the reason he did not want David Prowse as Anakin Skywalker is because he was too young. George Lucas wants someone in his 50's to make it clear it was Luke's father. It wasn't until he started writing the prequels that George Lucas believe that the force ghost should reflect the last time Anakin was a good man.

    For all who want to deny the Machete order, the look on his face should change your mind. If you read the novelization of ROTJ, it goes into Vader's feelings of shame at the horror he had become and that he thought he could see that horror in Luke's reaction at seeing him. In Episodes 1-3 you see what Anakin looked like as a child and as a Jedi, then seeing how he went from a handsome Jedi to a badly burned old man, you realize how horrible the dark side is and what it costs to go to that way.
    Check this out, from the ROTJ novelization: "For an evanescent moment, looking into the bonfire, Luke thought he saw faces dancing - Yoda, Ben; was it his father? He drew away from his companions, to try to see what the faces were saying; they were ephemeral and spoke only to the shadows of the flames, and then disappeared altogether. "

    Film making trivia…
    The first flat screen TV’s were developed for The Empire Strikes Back so they could automatically see the play back of what was just shot and make adjustments in real time.
    THX sound was developed specifically for Return of the Jedi, so of course, Jedi is the first movie in THX. (Yes, “THX” comes from George Lucas’ first film, “THX-1138”.) When it wasn’t a great hit, he made “American Graffiti”, which was such a huge hit, he could make “Star Wars”, his dream child, with help from 20th Century Fox. They were scared to give him financing, but they saw what he had done with Graffiti. The whole time Fox was keeping up with the script, choice of actors, robots all over the place and dog fights in space, they clinched their collective teeth and gave it a chance. After Star Wars was so huge, Lucas was able to develop at least 12 new colors that were unavailable before for Empire. Empire was the first film to attempt to super impose actual actors work inside the special effects, (seeing Leia walking around behind a glass wall in Cloud City.)
    There’s more, but that’s enough for overload at the moment. ✨😁✨

    Thoroughly enjoyed your reactions, mate! Before Disney bought the rights from George Lucas, and completely rewrote the post return of the Jedi Star Wars continuation, we had about 40 years worth of Star Wars Expanded Universe stories (mainly in the form of novels) that picked right up after Jedi and told of our heros' further struggles and exploits. These tales went all the way through into the following generations. I'd highly recommend giving them a read, in order for continuity's sake of course. Hunt them down at used book sellers or buy them new under the brand Star Wars Legends, which Disney rebranded them to after de-canonizing them. If one is not an avid reader they're also available in audio book format. They may no longer be considered part of the official Star Wars timeline but they're still great fun to get immersed into and escape reality with for a bit for any Star Wars fan. You'll likely grow as attached to many of the characters found there as you did to those we meet in the films.

    I moved to San Francisco in N. California in 1980. As I explored the area, I visited the redwood forests several times. I was surprised and pleased to see Lucas use them as the location for Endor, although the speeder scene made me nauseous from motion sickness. Everyone gets uncomfortable about Leia saying she "knew" she and Luke were brother and sister the whole time.
    Mostly because of the way she kissed Luke in Empire Strikes Back.
    But first of all, that kiss was all just a show, because she didn't want to admit to Han, but mostly herself, that she had feelings for Han. I always thought that was kind of obvious.
    The part where she said she knew he was her brother, my thoughts on that is that she meant she always knew subconsciously, from being force sensitive. When Luke told her, she finally consciously realized it and realized she had known subconsciously the entire time.
    Love your reactions and analyses!

      Oh, one more thing...
      I was a kid when all these movies came out. I was 2 when Star Wars came out, but back then before home video movies would leave theaters and come back over and over. So I saw Star Wars in the theater when I was 5.
      I didn't get to see Empire in theaters but I did see Return of the Jedi.
      However, before I saw either movie my friend told me Darth Vader was Luke's father and Leia was his sister.
      He had older brothers and sisters and they'd always see movies first and then tell him about them and then he'd tell me.
      Spoilers weren't a thing then. So many big movies I went into seeing already knowing what was going to happen. I didn't mind back then, but now I wonder what it would be like to have been surprised and now I definitely try to avoid spoilers for current movies and shows.

    The 'improvement' I disagree with most is the injection of the 'No.. no!' from Vader while Palpatine is electrocuting Luke. In the original version, Vader was silent and the audience was on the edge of their seats because they didn't know what was going to happen until Vader grabbed the Emperor. I remember the audience in the theater cheering when he did that.

    It amuses me that so many people who watch Star Wars, not just newbies, don't understand that Jedi are not a race of people. It's a religious order. There are many four wheelers that are not Jedi or sith. Count Dooku used to be a Jedi but left the order. He did not decide to join the sith until many years later. There are people in that universe who wield the force but are never trained as a Jedi or a sith.

      @@SofaandChill don't get me wrong, the special editions were pretty good with the add on, especially we got to see more of that snow monster that captured Luke at the beginning of Empire Strikes Back.
      The prequels are pretty good too. I'm looking forward to your reaction for Episode 3

    My personal favourite character was Kylo Ren, but-- in fairness, I DID rather enjoy Darth Yoda and Leia both, during the OG Trilogy... ;)

    is a problem to watch star wars episode 4 - 5 - 6 and then 1 - 2 - 3. the best way is 1 to 6.

      @@SofaandChill well I've been following you for a little time (i binge watched all your Star wars reactions) but for now, i can say that if there are others cult classics that you have not seen (just few examples like Lord of the Rings or the Alien franchise) definitely check them out. But focus on your personal taste and keep doing movies that interest you first! If you really want me to suggest something that feels similar to Star wars, i suggest you check out the Star Trek reboot trilogy (Star Trek 2009, Into Darkness, Star Trek Beyond) if you haven't watch them. I am also happy that you're bringing clone wars to the channel so i will be happy with that! Cheers
