51:50 the brilliance of this story isn't just Luke's defeat of the Emperor, but also his salvation of his father, Anakin (Darth Vader). Once you see the prequel trilogy (Episodes I-III) you'll see exactly why Anakin/Vader *must* wear that suit and the mask. Anakin/Vader isn't merely a badass villain, but his story is supremely tragic.

The prequels were good, as was Hayden's acting. It was George's directing and dialogue that held back the prequel trilogy. Had he allowed someone to direct the movies and tweak the dialogue, they would have been fantastic.

This is a NEW Death Star, it's being built. And it is supposed to be nearly twice as big as the previous one, aka 240 kms in diameter.
Vader is "forgiving" because he kills his victims quite quickly and painlessly compared to the Emperor who would torture them for hours first with his lightening power.
Sadly, Richard Marquant, the director died from cancer over twenty five years ago.

Since you saw Episode 3, it's easier to explain how Vader died without giving anything away, as the cause of his death is a two parter. You saw how he had lost his limbs and was horrifically burned all over. His lungs were severely damaged due to inhaling smoke while screaming in pain as he burned. The only thing that kept him alive long enough to endure the operations that attached him to the suit was his hatred connecting him to the Dark Side. The suit had to breathe for him, hence the sound he always makes. Whenever his suit was damaged, he drew upon the Dark Side to keep himself alive until the suit could be repaired. When he saved Luke, he rejected the Dark Side and became Anakin Skywalker once more. But his suit was severely damaged by the Emperor's Force Lightning, so he couldn't breathe. And with the Dark Side no longer keeping him alive, it was his time to die.

11 in 1977 for me. We had to wait 3 years to finally see this one. This was great! You two did a great job and welcome to the Star Wars family! Vader suit was a life support device. When he picked up the Emperor, the Emperor was killing him by destroying his life-support system in the suit (sparks flying). See you when you react to Episode 1,2,and 3, then The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy (Extended Editions of course). Thanks again and great job!

Enjoyed your reaction. It is nice to see a whole new generation take to the Star Wars franchise. I first saw this movie in Bangalore during its very first run on May 1, 1986 (yes, the release date in US was May 1983 but during those days, it could take Hollywood movies 3-4 years to reach Indian audiences!). I saw it in the theaters at least thrice. IMO, this is the best of all the 9 episodes of Star Wars.

You really should react to the 6 part Obi-Wan Kenobi series. It takes place ten years after Revenge Of the Sith and 9 years before A New Hope. The last two episode are classic Star Wars with the finale having some of the best scenes in SW history. It really illustrates the relationship between Obi-Wan and Anakin. I recommend you watch all three seasons of The Mandalorian and the 6 part Book Of Boba Fett. I think you'll love all of those series. Very connected to the original trilogy.

That was an excellent reaction, thank you very much. I knew you’ll like it more and more. I also didn’t forget about my promise to reveal my most favorite line in all the movies I ever watched, which was in this episode (Return Of The Jedi) … and that is “I am a Jedi, like my father before me”. Well, I am sure you are eager to know about Darth Vader story … that you will learn in episodes 1, 2 and 3. Do not let yourself influenced by the difference in special effects (they were made decades after the first trilogy) and just follow the story itself. I can hardly wait for your reaction to episode 7, there are some awesome surprises waiting for you … I hope nobody will spoil anything. But for now, just have patience and watch 1, 2 and 3. Again Thank You for your great reactions. Take care and stay safe. May the Force be with you.

  • @tranya327
    @tranya327 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi guys,
Here’s a useful ‘frame’ for the various SW films:
If you take an overview of the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy - Episodes I, II, III, IV, V and VI, you’ll see that Anakin/Vader is the center of everything. The original trilogy deals with: How does Vader return from the Dark Side of the force, and fulfill his Destiny? The Prequel Trilogy deals with: How did Anakin become Vader? Was there a purpose to Anakin’s life/trajectory - one that even Anakin didn’t know about?
The relationship between Vader and the Emperor is complicated. Anakin/Vader, has lost people (whom he loved) for his entire life, and it’s the thing he fears the most. During Episodes IV V and VI, The Emperor is the one person who remains in Vader’s life and who also hasn’t died or abandoned him.
At the same time, The Emperor isn’t actually loyal to anyone; he uses people and deceives them into serving him - including Vader. The Emperor seeks to continuously “trade up” and to replace whichever apprentice he has, with someone younger, stronger, more powerful.
While Vader and Luke had never before met, Vader feels a desperate attachment to Luke - the only family that Vader has left (that he knows about). Vader wanted to rescue Luke from death, something Vader was not able to do with other important people, earlier in his life. By contrast, the Emperor wanted to remove Luke as a threat. That could mean destroying Luke, but if Luke falls to the Dark Side, then the emperor can ‘trade up’ and replace Vader with a younger, more powerful apprentice.
The Sequel Trilogy - episodes VII, VIII and IX, was created after George Lucas sold the company and the Star Wars characters to Disney. They’re often called, ‘Disney Star Wars.’ While Disney Star Wars *can* be entertaining to watch, they are not centered around Vader and weren’t carefully designed to work with one another from the outset, the way that the first two trilogies were. George Lucas has said that, “Disney Star Wars is not my Star Wars,” and I agree.

As for why vader died, the suit he had on was to keep him breathing (IE the heavy scuba diving gear sounding breathing noise) from injuries and so the lightning from the emporor shorted it out so he was not getting assitance anymore.
and originally in 83 theere was a diffrent song at the end and the force ghost of the father was the actaul actor you saw behind the mask in Shebastian shaw th-cam.com/video/TvXm5HuR72k/w-d-xo.html

I really think you are more connected to this movie than you think. This was a bad empire who controlled lots of people from various cultures, and in this movie a little group connected with "the force" joined the locals who had the numbers. They together win over the full armed Empire and freed the people from all colonies of the Empire. They have the little ones and the love and justice in their side. Do you know a land who did it and expelled the empire? Do you?

Luke beat Darth Vader, but faced the Emperor, underestimated him (Yoda warned him not to) and lost.
    It's a rare story when
    the hero has to lose
    for
    the villain to save him

I disagree with you that Luke didn't win. I agree with you that he beat Darth Vader, and underestimated the emporers' powers, but, he wasn't there to kill the emporer. He was there so he wouldn't put his friends in danger, and then to save his father, which he did.

@@mikek0135 I will respectfully . How did he save Vader? I'm under the impression that luke was begging for his life. He even said "please."
      As far as Luke's goals:
He was there on Yoda's instruction : "Stopped, they must be. On this, all depends. Only a fully trained Jedi Knight, with the Force as his ally, will conquer Vader and his Emperor. "
Yoda trained Luke for the express purpose of sending him into the lion's den and stopping the Sith overlords.
Was this not what yoda told him to do? conquer vader AND palpatine? stop them both?

@SL Chance: First of all, I apologize for taking so long to reply. I've had some other things taking my attention.
I agree that both Yoda and Obi wan wanted Luke to kill Vader and the Emperor, but that doesn't mean that was Luke's goal. We already know that Luke will make up his own mind on what he'll do. Luke went to them (Vader and the Emperor) to help his friends, and save his father. Sidious wanted to have the stronger of the two as his apprentice. Luke risked his life to save his father, which he did (which meant that he did destroy Vader), and Sidious lost everything because of that. Anakin Skywalker destroyed the Sith, fulfilling the prophecy, because of Luke's choices and actions. Who knows, if Anakin didn't kill Sidious, Luke might have tried to save Palpatine as well.

@@mikek0135 you make a strong point: Luke has already shown that he decides his own fate instead of listening to others.

You're both right. He's right, saying that a woman can be good and bad. She's right saying you need a good woman. The only problem is that a good woman isn't easy to find.

Loved both of your reactions but the girl is one with the force. Several times she guessed right 1st. Princess being Luke's sister, princess being the bounty hunter at the Hut. When yoda took his final rest & said there is another skywalker, you both said, brother, uncle first. Assuming it was a guy. I was staring at the girl reactor going come on, I know you get it, you've been right every time so far! Also loved she pointed out han should have covered for/protected the droids. Very true. Droids don't get enough respect in star wars universe. I recommend skipping the prequels & watching the last 3 star wars and one off movies. Prequels stunk, & you already know vader is the father so you don't learn much.

The origonal ending was better tho, in my opinion. The Older Anakin and Obi-wan was a better time match, not the Anakin from 19 years ago. th-cam.com/video/TvXm5HuR72k/w-d-xo.html

My biggest complaint with the special editions is the scene at the end with a young Anakin ghost. Obi wan isn't any younger, why is he? Makes zero sense. Plus, those watching these without seeing the prequels have no clue who this guy is usually (props to you for guessing correctly).
The original version had the actor that played Vader dressed in jedi robes and healed of his burns, and a nice head of hair. I prefer that so much better. That and the original Ewok celebration song is more tribal and "authentic" sounding to me.

Anakin is young because that's how he last looked before he became Darth Vader, and if people haven't seen the prequels then that's not this movies fault.

Keep in mind that Ep.1 takes place before the Empire, so there is no Rebel Alliance and no emperor yet. The ruling government is the Republic, which is governed by a senate made up of delegates from planets all over the galaxy. The leader of the senate is the Supreme Chancellor, kind of like the president or prime minister of the galaxy. There is no military because there's been peace for 1,000. Instead, the peace is kept by the Jedi Knights, who serve the Republic but exist apart from it with their own rules and traditions. Centuries before, they were believed to have wiped out their ancient enemies, the Dark Lords of the Sith, who used the dark side of the Force to try to dominate and rule the galaxy.
By the time of Ep.1, the Republic has become corrupt and ineffective. Corporations are so wealthy and powerful that they even have their own senators in congress. One such corporation is the Trade Federation, which controls most of the trade routes through the galaxy. They are the apparent antagonists of the next film, but what no one else, not even the Jedi, knows is that the Trade Federation is in league with a familiar-looking hooded villain who is controlling things from behind the scenes.
