TheBizarreBurrito what they mean is this commander is banned completely. Hes not even allowed in the 99. No format of edh allows him. Hes way to good of a commander. If he was unbanned I can see this card being the most expensive commander.

As someone who *loves* the Series of Unfortunate Events novels, this was an absolute treat to watch. What a perfectly fitting subject for an incredibly well-done homage. You even got the "use an advanced word or idiom then give a comical & contextual definition" gag in there!

Despite all the hype, this isn't really tuned up version of Leovold yet. On the Counterspell front there's only negate and misdirection that are actually good (if we are going for truly cuthroat like it sounds like we are trying to), there should be enough ramp to cast Leovold on T2 pretty much all the time (dual land, mana dork, another land is enough). Explosive Vegetation does not make the cut here (there's even better version of 4cmc ramp, Skyshroud Claim and it doesn't work either) While many wheels were mentioned, Timetwister and Time Spiral were left out, as were many removal options like damnation, Abrupt Decay and Innocent Blood. Pillowfort pieces are cute, but not necessary. EDIT: the cards that have superior versions available but somewhy aren't used here: Dimir Aqueduct, golgari rot-farm (citp tapped) Explosive Vegetation (Skyshroud Claim) Cultivator's Caravan (felwar stone) Nevinyrral's Disk (damnation) Prophetic Prism (come on now...) terror (Doom Blade? Go for the Throat? Snuff Out? Innocent Blood?) temples of mystery, malady (citp tapped...) Arachnogenesis, propaganda (why not Rhystic Study or Mystic Remora instead? sure the goal for these is different, but the cards are better) Myriad Landscape (citp tapped, does not give us colours) Dream Fracture (Arcane Denial would be cheaper) Also a fast mana package of Mana Crypt, Mana Vault, Mox Diamond, Grim Monolith and Lotus Petal would be nice to enable a fast fast combo deck. The objective is to win ASAP so the opponents do not get to have any fun. Why durdle around with comes in to play tapped-lands, bounce lands and 3/4-mana ramp spells when you can play 0 or 1 mana for those and win right away? :)
Quite literally picked up singles to start building out a Leovold deck on Thursday. So much for the element of surprise in my group! That said, thank you for some suggestions I hadn't even considered!

you forgot arcane denial is essentially a less colour restrictive counterspell that lets us draw and if going into an opponents turn who just had their spell countered then they get not even one of the double draw effects its suppose to provide for being so under costed as a hard counterspell.

Lucas Alejandro Lalk he is my favorite commander to fight as I main nekusar, players love me making them draw every turn and don’t mind me stacking damage per draw.
I freaking love my Leovold deck. I pulled him in a C2 draft, and immediately built a deck around it using mostly cards I had on hand and a few others. What I found is that it has such a heavy artifact basis in its toolbox that adding artifact lands, cranial plating, some affinity and metalcraft cards, and elbrus the binding blade make for some excellent plays, with Elbrus and Cranial Plating being wincons for beat downs.

I played a Notion Thief yesterday with Jace's Archivest on my field while playing Lazav. someone tried to kill them and in response I activated the Archivest, drew my deck, and died. They just stared in bewilderment.
I had built this deck the moment that Leovold had come out and went straight to the Puzzlebox for lockdown. I really appreciate you making this video Prof. I miss my Leovold deck lol

no reasonable player allows proxy cards. I wouldn't even allow proxy's in a casual match with friends where i don't care who wins, nobody in my playgroup would.
So you go without having it. The point of magic is to play with cards you have, not with literally anything you want. To say "i can't/don't feel like buying this, so i'm just going to have anything i want no matter what" is idiotic. I have spent a total of $50 dollars on magic over the last several years (around 700 total in all my years playing), and you know what? The game is still enjoyable. You don't need to have every card you've ever wanted.
So did I but you don't see me getting my panties in a knot whenever I see someone play around with proxies. What if they're trying out a deck before buying? What if they're kids? All the powerful cards are expensive. Not everyone has the money to purchase Mana Vaults, original dual lands, fetches, Leovolds, etc.
oh my god I absolutely LOVE A Series of Unfortunate Events(that actually sums up the deck pretty well), so seeing this was a dream come true! Because of the impending doom of Nicol Bolas on Amonkhet, I'd like to recommend a Vorthos EDH deck on him.

T1 ancient tomb, sol ring, izzet signet, use remaining mana from tomb for activating signet, azorius signet. Turn 2 fetch into shockland. sol ring for mana vault, tap vault activate signets, use all mana, cast narset. Turn 3 glorious swing for chain veil, omniscience, enter the infinite, and a land. ......kind of disgusting...

He's probably my favorite Commander and always allows for exciting and dynamic games where you do things like milling an Ulamog, copying it with Lazav and then playing body double for a net sum of TWO Indestructible (One hexproff) 10/10 legendary Eldrazi who combined exile the top 40 cards of a single players library on the attack.

legitimately my fave ever video prof. another snicket fan, and i love the end song, brilliant. I would love to build this deck for actual events. but i play narset enlightened master and lock decks out of stuff with her. Turn 2 narset today was disgusting. T1 ancient tomb, sol ring, izzet signet, use remaining mana from tomb for activating signet, azorius signet. Turn 2 fetch into shockland. sol ring for mana vault, tap vault activate signets, use all mana, cast narset. Turn 3 glorious swing for chain veil, omniscience, enter the infinite, and a land. ......kind of disgusting...
