I just want to say that Helix is legit; I'm not associated with them in any way, except that I bought one. We had to return our Purple mattress, but my wife and I have loved our Helix one... going strong for about 8 years now. I'm absolutely going to use them in the future.
Standard era of turn 3 kills and smothering control decks. This set is just a gimmick to prey on people's nostalgia for a game that doesn't exist anymore
Hey prof, just had a thought- you should totally put out a 'cube' video reviewing and recommending the best ways to store your Foundations Jumpstart Booster packs, for easy Jumpstart Drafting replayability! I for one and desperate for more information on this subject, and I'm sure many newer players would be intrigued to know as well
Them building Foundations closer to a slightly watered down masters set rather than a typical old school core set allows them to give staple concepts to standard that they can design around and bring different takes on those concepts during the life cycle of it as a base set at least in theory.
I LOVED foundations, and the sealed/prerelease too, it was so fun to play, and get some cool cards for my (first) standard deck and commander decks. Feels good to feel like Magic is well, Magic again! Love ya, prof, thanks for the videos! ❤
I don’t really buy magic since m30. But as a product this is much better than recent years. The 5 year duration also helps with the product treadmill fatigue.
@@ElijahOshatz You know you don't have to _buy_ magic in order to evaluate it? There are ways to look at the cards without opening packs, yeah? You could actually even play the cards without buying them!
@@ElijahOshatz no better or worse than someone who just throws money at packs every new product without a thought. I don’t need to buy anything to know what a product is. It’s 2024.
I haven't been to a pre-release in over a decade. I still play magic casually, but went to a Friday event for foundations, I had a blast! I pulled some great cards and I even managed gain second place in the tournament. I'm going back today for another pre-release. Good luck all.
Brand new to the scene! Tomorrow is my 2 week anniversary of my first commander match! Im actually addicted to limited format events already 😂 the foundation’s prerelease was awesome
4:00 Actually Odyssey was my first prerelease, back in high school. I still have the promo card. Got my DCI card there as that was my first official event as well. I miss DCI.. and regular large events every month all over the world... *sigh*
Yes, I remember Odyssey! Still my favorite block!! Madness, Flashback, Squirrels, Reanimator, etc. etc. etc. I’ve made Cubes and entire casual formats honoring this amazing set!
I really like the idea of Foundations and how they made it. It’s done to help new players or beginners getting in, but we can also cook some spicy stuff with it. This is how WotC should work every time imho.
This set comes out at a perfect time for my pod we are all old guys that played 15-20 years ago don’t have a lot of cards and this set will help us all build up some good staple cards couldn’t be happier
As someone who played way back in high-school and tried again in 2019/2020 (guess what happened). To now come back and see the style of MTG I originally loved coming back is awesome.
"Remember odyssey kids?" Why yes, The Odyssey (/ˈɒdɪsi/;[1] Ancient Greek: Ὀδύσσεια, romanized: Odýsseia)[2][3] is one of two major ancient Greek epic poems attributed to Homer. It is one of the oldest works of literature still widely read by modern audiences. Like the Iliad, the Odyssey is divided into 24 books. It follows the Greek hero Odysseus, king of Ithaca, and his journey home after the Trojan War. After the war, which lasted ten years, his journey from Troy to Ithaca, via Africa and southern Europe, lasted for ten additional years during which time he encountered many perils and all of his crewmates were killed. In his absence, Odysseus was assumed dead, and his wife Penelope and son Telemachus had to contend with a group of unruly suitors who were competing for Penelope's hand in marriage.
I am a new player and I loved the Foundations prerelease! So much fun to play and I love how the cards look aswell! Only sad that my LGS won't be playing drafts of it! :/
3:50 yes, I know Odyssey block, Judgment was the newest set of magic when I started paying. I even used Judgment for my first game tag when I got into Halo and have used it since. And I am a parent of kids now, lol.
They basically just reprinted one of my old standard decks in this set, I can just dust it off change a few cards (upgrades not downgrades) and play. The downside of course is that I don't need to buy any foundations since I have the cards already but hey, this makes standard way way better.
Foundations truely is a lovely to magic. Top to bottom it is a beautiful curated set with lots of value but minimal to no gimmicks. Just straight up, clean, awesome magic. I am going to draft it, buy it, do sealed events. I am going to personally do my tiny part in helping make Foundations financially successful so WoTC sees how much we love seys like this.
Warframe has one of the best monetization models I've seen. Seems the same as all the other bad models at first glance, but has small touches like telling you where to obtain gear through play on the same screen ypu would buy it on. Also, if something with stats is available to buy it is also available to earn through play.
9:17 I played Soul Diviner alot with Talisman lol. Drew two cards with the first two counters, and searched for a card with the last counter. Then the donated talisman is practically useless to the opponent. The searched card would often be Etrata, the Silencer, cause she shuffles herself into the library after she attacks and all that. The deck wasn't that good, but it was my own decklist and i never saw anything like it in standard.
Here's a little nerdy history about that art on Zombify as far as I can tell, it looks like the Aven would be from Otaria fighting against the Cabal who were their sworn enemies as the Aven belonged to a group called the Order. This is where all the big, coolio original Legendary Bird Creatures came from: Kangee, Major Teroh, Lieutenant Kirtar, Commander Eesha, and a host of other non legendary Aven cards. I mean, it COULD be one of the Aven who left Otaria for the Benalia like all the rest of them but IDK, that battlefield looks pretty Otaria ish to me. If you're into Aven cards, we'll probably get a handful with the Tarkir set coming out as the Aven are quite prominent there as the closest acolytes Ojutai since they can fly and understand the dragon "body language" the best (apparently). Notable Tarkir Aven monk Ishair of course. So here's to hoping there's some cool Azorius colored Aven in that set...since I doubt any of the goddamn UB sets will have Aven....
Wishclaw could fit well into some kind of Doomsday Excruciator+Jace/Restless Reef combo deck. Add some extra consistency and could maybe pair with cards like candy grapple for the bargain you mentioned. Also, criminal that remand didnt make this list
I'm loving how often people talk about the famous or expensive cards, meanwhile I can make anti-meta decks EASILY for pennies (just ordered 15 bucks worth of cards which was one entire 60c deck including themed lands and I'm excited!!)

I'm upset about Universes beyond, but I am also very happy we're getting back into a standard era of elves and goblins being arch enemies
There’s a lot of fancy universes out there but nothing beats a classic elf ball or goblin horde.

Foundations is such a relief after all of the weird sets we've had. Bloomburrow was nice but I love the short return to older magic
Had a good time at my LGS reading the spoilers list with peeps guessing what was/wasn't a reprint.

I was sort of disappointed when he didn’t go on to pronounce Wishclaw as Wickulaw to balance it out.
The mispronunciation of Bar-tow-low-meh, too
He didn’t specialise in pronunciation!
Just did a pre-release event today and my foil promo was Doubling Season. Was super excited to pull it. Great video as always.
I had Burst Lightning in my prerelease deck, and it was very nice to have, especially with a Micromancer
100% The reprint of Llanowar Elves has me coming back to MTG!!

I'm really happy about these reprints, I even attended a prerelease yesterday and pulled a Doubling Season! Time to fire that up in a commander deck!
Very excited ro see foundations in standard. Glad youre running it in SU+P :) cant wait
We've gone from "bolt the bird" to "shelf the elf".
Got 3 Llanowar Elves and a Loot Exuberant Explorer at my prerelease, it was a blast.
