I beg to differ. I love playing mono red, but I would rather play a strong, consistent aggro deck over burning my opponents. I come from a yugioh background, so playing mono red and punishing my opponents with well-timed pump spells or baiting out all their interactions is more of my cup of tea. Also, to me, it seems more honorable to play a combat focused deck over playing solitaire with burn strategies. Yugioh made me forever hate burn and FTKs, so mono red burn decks are a no-no to me. Mono- Red Aggro, on the other hand, makes me feel like I'm playing old school, yugioh anime style, and using power ups to consistently get the upper hand.
@@gameheathens2480 I have heard no one complain about the contents of the secret lair, though I am sure there are some who did. What people are complaining about is the way the purchasing of it and lack of ability to do so went down. Hope this helps!
I haven't played Standard since Throne of Eldraine, and I recently picked it back up around Bloomburrow. Its been kind of refreshing to play a 60 card format, and I really hope Foundations can revitalize the Standard scene at my LGS

No Commander Decks, no Universes Beyond, no Cowboys or Fedoras. Just (mostly) simple cards that hopefully will benefit the Standard format for the next five years. Didn't think i would ever wanna build a Standard deck again!
I would like to submit “Elenda, Saint of Dusk” for consideration. The rate is acceptable as a 4/4 lifelinker for 2WB, but “Hexproof from instants” is so pushed in current Standard. She fits well both into the theoretical life gain deck as well as generic WBx Midrange piles.

@@SinfulTitan I played MTG for 20 years. Then EDH format appeared and I never looked back. Because 1 vs 1 formats are just toxic pools of mirror matches. People playing only 1 or 2 decks because that’s what wins. But in commander you rarely see the same decks. It has so much variety. And the best part is, you get to play with all your friends at the same time. And it’s a casual format, so the only toxic behavior you will see, is someone being upset that you are using proxies. And those types can be dealt with easily, by simply not playing with them. Because we all deserve to play Gaeas Cradle and dual lands in our decks in a CASUAL format. Not just rich kids who got to buy the expensive cards. Hence why commander being a casual format is the best part about it.
There's 5 cards I believe should be always legal in standard, one for each color Revitalize, nagate, murder, lightning strike and llanowar elves or elvish mystic.
There is a possible outlet to the Hare Apparent + Raise the Past with Impact Tremors, one of the cards made legal with the Starter Collection. Unsure of how good a 3+ color pile reliant on two colors that don't enable Raise the Past that well will perform, however.
I just wanna mention Arahbo, the first fang Somewhere someone is probably brewing up some cats kindred deck that might be able to pack a serious punch Even if we won't see cat meta decks, the existing fun decks just got a big upgrade and that makes me happy

I agree with Prof, the current iteration of mono red in standard is unenjoyable to play with or against due to its binary early-game-interaction-based gameplay. Burn is much more interesting of an archetype. Excited to see it in standard and mmmaybe pioneer? 😃

While I know this video has nothing to do with it explicitly, I just want to say I'm grateful not only for the piece of levity this video provides in contrast to last night, but also the unapologetically progressive space this channel, and community, provides and maintains. When the world seems slipping around oneself it can feel so isolating, but Prof, as well as many others, help remind me at least that you can hold on to something to improve the world around you. And that these spaces can be all the more important to uphold in times of duress. In fact combatting bigotry and promoting critical understandings, even if mostly implicitly, where people spend time with friends and engage with the material world in the form of hobbies and interests, can be as important, if not more, than direct political discourse and punditry. And while the election is what inspired this comment, I feel the same about all the smaller issues, such as the reactionary and hateful aftermath of the commander bans most recently, and even all the times in multiple different online communities bigotry and its gradual normalization I've experienced manifest since I got online in the early 10's as a teen. Prof and people like him have helped open the option up from either conforming or letting oneself be expelled from a community when stumbling on a wave of hate, to if not actively fighting it in the moment at least finding comfort in holdouts of acceptance elsewhere in the given community. Sorry if this was rambly or didn't make much sense. Love the videos Prof thanks for all you're doing in this space
i can tell you why low supply has only one format thats casual so people are gunna play it regardless and finally nobody thinks its staying banned even though we should make a timemachine and erase it form history
yesterday i went through my old binder, looking for blue clone like creatures and gain-control effects for the illusion commander deck i had in mind, and i sh't you not, i have a foil avacyn restored Exquisite Blood in there that looks NearMint xD its crazy how many good black cards i own i forgot about bc i never really play black. maybe i will eventually build a red black vampire commander deck if i get good pulls from my jumpstart boosters xD
Anyone who expects WotC to make every standard set while treading on eggshells that something might "break" modern is a bit silly. Especially if it's basically a limited target lightning bolt that is going to do it.
I'm gonna go out and say it. Boltweave is nowhere near good enough. There are many versions of prowess or aggro that run white and have copius amounts of lifegain. Against those decks, removal is so crucial for red decks to win, because if you're playing burn instead of prowess you are too slow to kill them before they attack with a 7/6 lifelink on turn 3. Personally, I like Brimstone Roundup. It's simmilar to Dollshop or Urabrask's Forge, but it's slightly cheaper and a little more versatile. I played it in Boros decks with heavy discard with Demand Answers, Fomo, and Recommission, and I want to try it in Rakdos Sacrifice instead of Disturbing Mirth when I get the wildcards.
I'll actually be playing it in Pioneer with Chandra's Incinerator. Incinerator decks need a critical mass of efficient burn to be able to cast Incinerator early. Plus, with Incinerator out, it kills whatever their followup play is. Hey! Why don't we shove in Rottenmouth Viper to have 8 six-drops to cheat into play!
I agree, I like a more traditional RDW, even a burn deck rather than a fling mouse deck, which feels so gimmicky and high roll. It's annoying and makes for uninteresting games. The burn players actually have to work hard to win, have to carefully structure the deck wl some draw and enough lands. Long live RDW! Even as a control player tired of red decks, I respect boomer red decks. 😊
Wait, if you have a way to give Kellan changeling, can you activate his first ability multiple times and have him exile more than one card per combat damage?
You'd have to give him all creature types. Giving him the changeling ability would not change his creature types because of layers. That said, this does work, but it hardly seems worth it. You'd have to readd the Scout creature type after each time you activate the first ability.
The problem here, Professor - and I mean no disrespect - is that you're all in. Your hobby is your income and therefore Hasbro will at some point show up drunk at your family Christmas dinner, bone your dog, slap your mother and claim a coalition victory while you have to lap it up. I get it's a tough line to walk and you do it well, but we're here for the entertainment not the education. I've played magic for 20 years and it's.... had better days.

The best thing about Boltwave is that you can ALSO say "Bolt you." with it, offering 8 opportunities per match to say "Bolt you." to your opponent.

Drake catcher is a very powerful and flexible threat in standard, but i wouldnt be surprised if it sees play in pioneer or even modern
honestly i think drake hatcher will fit wonderfully in my felix five boots deck where i make creatures unblockable and double their on attack effects

Lava spike is a terrible card outside of dedicated burn decks, just doesn't affect the board at all.
