    The Pentastar Alignment is a great example as to the phrase, "Speak softly, but carry a big stick." Caine walked the political thin line beautifully of staying true to what the Empire stood for, at the same time staying under the radar of the New Republic and other warlords, and also having enough of a military to protect your borders.

    If I remember right while the Alignment was oppressive of non-humans on paper they also turned a blind eye to things like aliens joining the Pentastar Patrol, in part because Kaine wasn't actually a speciesist despite his public declaration. It was only one of many contradictory things about the Alignment that stemmed from the complicated political plate spinning act that Kaine had to put on with all the various interest groups within their territory. It's something that makes them one of the most interesting warlord factions to me, because every other one of their contemporaries was basically sustained on a diet of charismatic personalities and superweapons. . . . Actually, writing it out, that's probably why they ended up being the most successful of the factions. That political juggling might have made them a bit unstable, but it also assured that everyone would have a vested interest in the faction actually surviving, which is why it didn't all fall apart when Kaine took a long walk out a short airlock.
    An extremely cool faction all around. It's a shame we didn't get to see more of them before the book closed on the old EU.

      The Alignment would have definitely made far more interesting antagonists for a sequel trilogy than the First Order.

      @DIEGhostfish 4 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Oh I think they weren't even turning a blind eye to Aliens in the Patrol, they seemed to encourage it. I think the repression was most focused on species that were already enslaved, or those who had resources the signatory companies wanted.

      Well in theory, you ran into the Pentastar Alignment during Dark Forces 2 as Kyle Katarn, since Jerec was affiliated with it, using troops and material from Kaine's group.

    This is significantly more interesting Than the First Order just existing and losing every iconic base/vessel as soon as it's revealed.

    • @BlueTyphoon2017

      Honestly I wish they had mixed the first order with the empire of the hand, maybe having thrawn as the main antagonist, even though I do like the sequels, as I thought they were ok.

      @@BlueTyphoon2017,
      I personally headcanon/fanfiction that Snoke is a failed clone of Palpatine in a power struggle with Thrawn over control of the Imperial Remnant, roughly filling the role of Jorus C'baoth from the original Thrawn books. Also the New Republic military is underfunded and corrupt but not a pushover like in Disney canon, and the Resistance is a less incompetent faction within it rather than its own thing. And that nothing after TFA actually happened.
      Actually that first point makes too much sense now that I think about it...

    The near fusion of military and industrial concerns along with the deep humanocentric streak seems like simple writing but really has some depth. The Pentastar Alignment was sort of the Rhodesia of the Star Wars galaxy.

  • @andreykuzmin4355
    @andreykuzmin4355 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Most awesome about the Pentastar Alignment is that, technically, they never tell! They were wholesale incorporated into the Imperial Remnant and served as core territory and heartland of the Remnant/Fel Empire ever since.

    • @occam7382
      @occam7382 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah, and if I'm not mistaken, the Imperial Remant and Fel Empire would keep their capital (whether it was Orinda or Bastion) in the old territory of the Pentastar Alignment throughout the rest of Legends history.

  • @TheKingofbrooklin

    Whenever I play as the Alignment in Thrawns Revenge and take Coruscant I imagine that the Alignment rebrands itself as the "Pentastar Empire" and puts the imperial crest into the center of the star symbol.

  • @DIEGhostfish
    @DIEGhostfish 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    Pentastar was weird about aliens for damn sure. Though I think they focused on repressing specific species who were already repressed under the empire because they were used as corporate slaves or who had planets with valuable resources or republic-era claims to ownership of infrastructure. Since Aliens WERE apparently allowed into the Pentastar Patrol, those were probably form other species, either ones not native to the New Territories (Who thus didn't have any claims that needed to be denied) or who were just not seen as obstacles/cheap labor.

      I think that Kaine did not have a problem with non humans but had to adapt to the corporate members of the PA to not risk the alliance.

    You've come a long way, and *really* sound so much more comfortable talking than you did before.
    Some of the very first lore videos on this channel, you sound kinda like you're giving a speech.
    But now... You sound like you're just talking to some friends about the subject, and it's great!
    Really diggin' the chosen visuals for the topic at hand.
    Overall, in my opinion, I really believe you've improved in every relevant way my friend! Keep up the amazing work. :)

    Hey Corey- here from Eckhart'sLadder. I don't know you would be interested in this kind of thing but there is a quest on SpaceBattles with Ardus Kaine by the quest master Alias. It is really interesting to look through if you get a chance, though it hasn't updated in a while.
