Adam/He-Man really stands out in that sequence and the lighting and sky background are truly striking. I love the colors, they draw attention to Grayskull. Thanks for sharing, James!
I have always loved transformation sequences in comics, cartoons, anime, and tokusatsu. In general for superhero stories it is so great to have that moment where the hero goes from their mortal or ordinary form to their heroic one even it’s something as simple as Clark Kent doing the shirt rip to reveal the S underneath. I still get a charge when I watch the Adam to He-Man sequence as I did when I was a kid. Thank you for sharing this footage and letting me see in great detail one of my favorite transformations of all time.
It IS crazy that even after all these years, the transformation sequence, a short piece of DRAMATIC animation, can still stir up some very powerful emotions! :) - I STILL get goosebumps when Prince Adam raises the Sword of Power in "Into the Abyss"...:)
@cerealgeekTV Yes! That was great with the energy bolts dropping down and then a wave rushing up. Poor Teela and that little creature have no idea what's happening.
@@cerealgeekTV I noticed that this and the transformation scenes in the '80s Incredible Hulk cartoon are very similar. Prince Adam doesn't tear out his shirt and boots, though, his outfit just changes. I never understood how others never figured out Prince Adam was He-Man. James, thanks to you and Dûsan for all your hard work put in when sharing these fun and very interesting behind-the-scenes facts about He-Man! The transformations of the twins of power is and always will be one of my favorite things about both cartoons. Iconic. And of course Rob Lamb is extremely cool!
A lot of people (myself included when I was a kid) always seem to think that Adam holds the sword with the blade flat facing the screen. If you carefully look at the sequence, he doesn't do this and actually holds it edge-forward (as you would if you did pull a sword from your back). The camera moves down to a 7 o'clock position after the transformation, and looks up at He-Man from a lower position. Due to this angle, it looks like the sword is being held flat towards the screen, but it really isn't. Statue companies and artists get this wrong quite a bit as it is only Adora that holds her sword flat side towards the screen.
I always knew the Sword of Power was being held with the edge being favored to the audience, as it was on the back of the Masters of the Universe Panini sticker album...and I think I traced that image SO many times as a kid! :) - The reason that many companies have chosen to show the face of the Sword of Power is because when we were working on the BCI DVDs back in 2005, Emiliano Santalucia re-illustrated that pose for the accompanying artwork - What he didn't know however is that his illustration would not only be reused over and over again, but also be used by the license owners as a point of reference for licencees...hence why we never see the sword held as it was in the transformation sequence...:)
