    wow that one panel in that comic almost 4 minutes in ( 3:40 ), looks exactly like the design of Palace Eternia from the show. Dude sure knew his stuff. (at least at that point)

    I was such a fan of 80s properties that it made sense to make the jump to comics. I had a few He-Man comics, Real Ghostbusters comics, Alf, Thundercats, and TMNT. I read the heck out of each issue I had, they were so worn by the time I was done with them. I sought out all the He-Man comics in the Star imprint. I'm pretty sure I still have them.

    • @cerealgeekTV

  • @David315842
    @David315842 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Well, the Star comics may have gone wrong due to the fact that the heroes and villains built a tram service to each of their respective bases to fight each other. No matter then they are such jerks, each side is far too cocky thinking that they could overpower the other and become the true Masters of the Universe. Wow! :D Can't wait to hear more about this series in the future James. :)

    I use to have those comics. While they were nowhere near written, or drawn like the characters we know from the cartoon, I bought them to learn how to draw heroic looking characters. I didn't read much of the issues, but after watching this video, I'm glad I didn't. To be fair, no comic I've seen comes close to the Filmation cartoon, but the comics from the 2002 'He-Man' from Image were pretty darn impressive compared to what came before. I also remember Star's 'Heathcliff' comics from that same time period, and it would've been nice if The Cadillac Cats were included in those comics, but sadly they weren't.

    I had the early Star Comics and I think I gave them to a friend of mine because I just couldn't get into them. They weren't interesting stories and I got them as backissues long after the show. I would like to see the rest of the original DC Comics run since Filmation borrowed a lot from them, but the more recent DC run I was not a fan of. The worst was what they did to Teela.

    • @cerealgeekTV
      @cerealgeekTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, the early 1980s DC Masters of the Universe material was GREAT - The comics they produced over the last ten or more years...not very good at all - VERY bad handling of the characters...:(

    As for the writing, oh man, it sounds like whoever the writer(s) were, were all too familiar with how jerks (with personality disorders?!) behave. One has to wonder the company they kept or the family they grew up in, and what effect that had. Somebody needs therapy, stat!

    • @cerealgeekTV
      @cerealgeekTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, as I say, Mike Carlin was the lead writer on the comic...and his take on the characters was just really odd...:(

    • @Grim2
      @Grim2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sometimes a writer just wasn't invested in a project much. That's all there is to it. No need to psychoanalyze peoples lives over it.
      And besides, Carlin didn't blow up He-Man and then later resurrect him so he gets stabbed and left to bleed on the floor...

    The English He-Man comics were pretty bad too, but at least the characters were heroic and likeable.
    Things got a lot better when it became Masters of the Universe Adventures.

    • @cerealgeekTV
      @cerealgeekTV  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I didn't think the UK Masters of the Universe comics were all that bad to be honest...my only problem was that I felt that the stories were always a little on the short side (three per issues), until issue 50 when the German Ehapa reprints began to happen! :)
