I took a golf ball to my head about half an inch dead center above the eyes. Not a good day. Doc said thats the hardest thickest part of the skull, and an inch lower we wouldnt be having this conversation. Massive headache for a couple of weeks, a lot of stitches and couldnt put my contact lenses in for awhile. The nose was bruised and had alot of swelling in the immediate area of impact. Glad to see that John made a good recovery. 👍

We have continuing education requirements to maintain our licenses. Years ago, I learned a new focus on the importance of keeping the patient warm . We had been keeping areas cool for our comfort, namely the OR. However, slightly raising the temperature in this area of patient care was found to calm their patient. Without this added stressor the patient got well quicker. I notice patients uncovered often in trauma. I will fold a warm blanket in half and cover 'stabIe' areas for comfort. I understand the need to be able to assess and have access to your patient, however, this one small thing can positively impact patient outcomes.

My brother was having a bad round and in his frustration he broke his golf club. While slamming it into the golf cart the fiberglass shaft stabbed him in the forearm deeply. Having some field triage experience I told him not to pull it out and he ignored me. So, I used a shoe string to create a tourniquet and we rushed to the ER. It was a sobering moment for him. Had that shaft hit him in the chest he would've been killed.

I was running backwards with this team to make sure we made it to the OR in time to save her life. It did not work out the way I was hoping and I found out she didn’t make it the next day. In the U.S., we have something called Urgent Care which is a step down from Emergency Department (what you call A&E) for those kinds of minor injuries.
The best question I got when I answered the phone at the hospital I worked at. " Can you tell me what time the parade in town starts " 😅 I still laugh about that
@@kc4699 I think she was too freaked out to even look and see how much damage she had done, to be honest. Some people can't deal with the blood, so they wrap a tea towel around it and run straight to the doctor/hospital.
All I can say, and I hope like hell I am wrong!! With force enough to injure him that badly, I am highly suspect that he threw it in the air and this happened. I mean come on, the damage is straight on.....again, hope I'm wrong!!
The weight of the club head and the flex of the shaft and how lightweight it is can make them incredibly dangerous when launched. A sort of misguided missile - it actually looks like the club shaft made contact across his face :(
Such positive attitudes! United States people could definitely learn from these beautiful people. No ill will or desire to sue the other person or at least none mentioned. God bless European citizens.❤
Ok sure we sue in the UK darling. But here we have NHS: almost no out of pocket no mega expensive medical costs + we still have people that dont need to be sued to do the right thing, they come forward based on character, morals, ethics....honor. In case they fail the latter, we sue them all the way to the High Courts!!
That's how it is in general, yes. Common civilians don't sue each other. The costs are most of the time covered by insurance. Also it isn't common to use life-insurancemoney for something other than paying the mortgage, when our partner has died. No murders here because of life-insurance and greed.
The handsome Iranian doctor has quite a sad look in his eyes, it impressed me. Another thing that impressed me was the love shown by those sons to their father, being with him, always attentive to what the doctrors were saying and doing, touching him lovingly all the time, nice to see this in an age were so many children don't give a damn for their parents once they leave the home.
The trauma team is already set up, IV’s, IV Meds, checks crash carts, gets portable EKG monitor ready and pads and wires ready. Amazing. They give their incoming call at 15-17 minutes out. Gives trauma team to get ready. Hear in the USA the call is made 5-3 minutes out from the ER.
If you have a trauma and are working on interventions with minimal help it’s kinda important to focus on immediate life threats other than giving a report

A friends daughter lost her eye in a golfing accident as a teenager. Very dangerous especially when people can’t control their anger or are fooling around.
true, but most people dont know how to clean to wound well enough to not get an infection few days later, increasing A+E even more so might actually save them time long run ahhaa. had a friend just last week nearly have his hand removed for a cat bite due to infection and had to stay in 3 nights >.< he's lucky he went when he did but yeah a knife cut so long as it isnt chicken is so clean. Not disagreeing for this one its just some times something minor can be real bad
You telling me a golf club is going to snap in half and cause that much damage from falling on John’s head? More likely his friend swung the golf club in anger and it hit him off the swing.
It makes me really sad that they couldn’t get work doing what they were obviously highly educated and qualified for as nuclear physicists just because they had to flee there as immigrants after the revolution 🥺🤷🏻♀️
My 7 year old daughter was struck in the head with a golf club in 2007. My sister was watching my kids while I was at work and they were outside playing with a ball and a golf club. As my son went to hit the ball with the club, my daughter bent down to pick it up and instead of the ball he hit her head. He was 10 years old. She lost consciousness and they flew her by helicopter from the scene to children's hospital where she had to have surgery because the golf club had pushed a half dollar sized piece of her skull into her brain. Luckily she didn't have any lasting issues. She had what they believe was one seizure after the surgery and had to wear a protective helmet for a year afterwards to protect the area but fully recovered.
This golf club accident is a good reminder for those of us who throw our racquets after a bad racquetball shot. I admit I am guilty of this.🙁 When I was in my 20s I knew a woman who was a bit older and who worked as a substitute teacher for first-graders. One day, during a softball game, she got hit in the face with a baseball bat. I’m not sure if the bat caught her in mid-air, or if the batter child actually connected with her, but, boy, she was a mess. The injury was primarily to her mouth and teeth, many of which she lost. I felt sooo bad for her, she suffered terribly and had to constantly use painkillers. I’ll never know what the upshot of this was because we lost track of each other, but I always hoped she was able to move past this ordeal and have a successful life. Very sweet and kind person.
Here in Florida, getting hit with a golf club is pretty regular. Golfers who get too serious =swing, and there’s always a set of clubs pretty much anywhere..(availability /eventuality)

Came here to say if you're inexperienced with a club it leaving your hands is a common mistake. You have to tighten your grib after you hit the ball to not have it leave your hands. The same mistake can happen with a bat, too. No one in the video said it was purposeful. Also meltdown is not the same as tantrum. Yes he could have been angry and panicked but more likely angry at himself here and not his friend he accidentally hurt. I know some people do get easily angry over things but they can also just be overly critical. The change between him being angry a lot and him having a meltdown makes it unclear and sorta takes away from the fact this all was from a accident and not cause of anger.
Just a little bit over 6 years ago that I had torn a ligament in my right ankle that was a really bad sprained ankle. My ankle was swollen and bruised everywhere on that ankle, heel, parts of the foot, and 3 toes. I wore the boot a couple of weeks back then. I used a walker that helped me walk around for a few months in distance walking. I can walked for shorter distances. I have that walker just after my surgery of removing my appendix in July 2016. I didn’t really need it. I wanted my father to used it for walking. He never did. I know what the elderly woman was going through.
You can't get that much damage from a thrown in the air golf club, especially a driver. It had to have been in a swinging action. And I just finished the episode. Makes sense.
The treatment that Joan got for her alleged Achilles' tendon tear was an outrage. She should have had an X-ray and a doctor look a her. If he decided it was torn, then they should have scheduled a surgery. You don't just send her home with a boat and hope for the best. Old people don't heal well.
I don't think Joan wanted to get her heel best with a brittle needle brush until her bone bled to try and get the tendon to attach to the clot. May or may not work.
You missed it. She was taken to get an x-ray… They put a medical boot on her foot to heal the achilles tendon that seemed to be detached. But it would take months, he said.

In the U.S., we have something called Urgent Care which is a step down from Emergency Department (what you call A&E) for those kinds of minor injuries.
The best question I got when I answered the phone at the hospital I worked at. " Can you tell me what time the parade in town starts " 😅 I still laugh about that
Joan is one tough lady. I’d be screeching if I snapped my Achilles tendon.
She didn’t even need stitches on her finger?! Omg. Why go to emergency for that?!
I know right?!
What a big sook
because that's the beauty of socialised medicine. she can make sure she's ok, it's totally normal & it doesn't cost thousands of dollars
BECAUSE ITS FREE OVER IN ENGLAND. That’s the problem with this Biden Run He’ll Hole.
I thought maybe the guy was too close to the person swinging, that would do a lot of damage. But throwing a club, wouldn’t that be less velocity?
Yeah, I don’t think it happened the way the “friend” said it happened. A falling club isn’t going to do that much damage, let alone snap in half.
Defo..there is more to this story.
The weight of the club head and the flex of the shaft and how lightweight it is can make them incredibly dangerous when launched. A sort of misguided missile - it actually looks like the club shaft made contact across his face :(
@@ariesgalindo4547 Thanks for explanation, but still not buying it.
His injury looked like the club was swung right across his face in not like it fell from above.
John’s sons are handsome buggers, aren’t they?
Such positive attitudes! United States people could definitely learn from these beautiful people. No ill will or desire to sue the other person or at least none mentioned. God bless European citizens.❤
Ok sure we sue in the UK darling. But here we have NHS: almost no out of pocket no mega expensive medical costs + we still have people that dont need to be sued to do the right thing, they come forward based on character, morals, ethics....honor. In case they fail the latter, we sue them all the way to the High Courts!!
@@julesmpc1314paid for with your very high taxes. Healthcare is never “free”.
@@dalhousieDreamhere in the USA our taxes are ridiculously high- and we have to also pay way too much for healthcare.
That's how it is in general, yes. Common civilians don't sue each other. The costs are most of the time covered by insurance. Also it isn't common to use life-insurancemoney for something other than paying the mortgage, when our partner has died. No murders here because of life-insurance and greed.
@@tcuplvrI pay €205 a month incl. dentist. You pay even more?
It's so good to see John cleaned up and up golfing again. 🥹
You were a beautiful couple, handsome man there. I am so sorry for your loss. Stay strong, he is looking over you forever. God Bless 🖐🙏✝️🇨🇦
❓❓❓
Joan is adorable and has a great sense of humor.❤
The twins are adorable!
34:42 The nurse in the red. Beautiful!
I just adore Craig ❤ His bedside manner is impeccable.
Finally you get to the point right away instead of telling us all about your life, education etc.
John's friend should have been charged with wreckless endangerment
I did the same thing to my ankle as that lovely lady lol we could be ankle twins! Stairs every old ladies’ nemesis !!
I am allergic to stairs too. But for me, I fall down walking straight. Stairs nor required for me.
Kimb868 was your Achilles tendon tear painful? I have always heard that is an extremely painful injury. But this lady didn’t seem bothered at all.
I’ve been a bit. Wary of stairs for years and I’m not that old!
@@MiMi-kx1vymy husband had his severed when a softball hit it as he ran the bases. He passed out. This is a guy who had root canal with no numbing. He walked on it for 6 months before he had the surgery. It hinders your ability to operate your foot.
There was a guy with thumb wrapped and nurse/doctor said now don't pass out on me.....what was his story and what happened?
I'm glad John is ok
Everyone needs a job and thank goodness there is an AandE where others are being taught the skills they will need to make a living. The US could do with learning something from this country and make medical care more affordable!😮❤
That won't happen until Americans shake off their brainwashing (i.e. that "socialized medicine" is Communism and therefore has horns and a tail) and vote for people who actually care about them, instead of constantly voting against their own interests. The U.S. is seriously weird.
I love Siobhan and Caroline 😂 I always wanted a sister growing up and they had me chuckling
A friends daughter lost her eye in a golfing accident as a teenager. Very dangerous especially when people can’t control their anger or are fooling around.
Friend or not, his "friend" would need to see a proctologist to retrieve his golf club.
Those twin sisters are great 👍. Congrats on the pregnancy, and be careful with the ad-vacado 😂
Small cut to a finger means a trip to A&E??? Good grief! No wonder there is the wait time that there is.
😂
true, but most people dont know how to clean to wound well enough to not get an infection few days later, increasing A+E even more so might actually save them time long run ahhaa. had a friend just last week nearly have his hand removed for a cat bite due to infection and had to stay in 3 nights >.< he's lucky he went when he did but yeah a knife cut so long as it isnt chicken is so clean. Not disagreeing for this one its just some times something minor can be real bad
@@keatoncreatestwo different areas a trauma patient is not seen by the same people as the cut finger.
To be fair, I ended up slicing a 1.5in gash on my thumb. The damned thing required 5 stitches to close it.
@@Leslie_ann_h Some people need to complain. Do not understand how serious a deep cut can be.
When Joan said “I just love hospitals” I thought she was being sarcastic
Having a Tantrum and throwing a golf club... I hope is more composed when operating a motor vehicle. 🙄
You telling me a golf club is going to snap in half and cause that much damage from falling on John’s head? More likely his friend swung the golf club in anger and it hit him off the swing.
I agree, especially at that angle
Yes
Love these stories 😮
"Caroline successfully ate her first avocado" Stooop 😂
2 Iranian nuclear physicists fleeing to England? That immigration experience must have been pretty unique.
It makes me really sad that they couldn’t get work doing what they were obviously highly educated and qualified for as nuclear physicists just because they had to flee there as immigrants after the revolution 🥺🤷🏻♀️
In the golf course there are a set of 15 golf Etiquette rules of conduct etc. Taking a temper tantrum is not one of them🤬
John's wife is such a beautiful lady, inside and out.
Omg goodness that is terrifying, I am sorry your daughter (and son) had to go through that but I am glad to hear that she was able to recover so well.
In the hospital for over a hour
Doctor: “Its too early to know if it’s a stroke”
This golf club accident is a good reminder for those of us who throw our racquets after a bad racquetball shot. I admit I am guilty of this.🙁
When I was in my 20s I knew a woman who was a bit older and who worked as a substitute teacher for first-graders.
Joan! Love ya
Here in Florida, getting hit with a golf club is pretty regular. Golfers who get too serious =swing, and there’s always a set of clubs pretty much anywhere..(availability /eventuality)
Joan is hilarious i love her
I am a retired RN. I am 57 have hypothyroidism, large west gain, increased strength on 12 pills everyday pay I need this information so I can fight my early weight gain and HTN, pre diabetes. I have changed physically so much and I have been looking into clean medication, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU 😊
Came here to say if you're inexperienced with a club it leaving your hands is a common mistake.
Are his boys twins? Their profiles are very similar. Great Dad and civill servant.
You do see the best of people and also the worst…
People who have anger issue should not play golf. The end.
They cannot control themselvss
I wish these shows were highline more on the medical work and less on the victim impact statements
The 77 yr old woman looks fantastic for her age, no makeup, just a natural beauty!
The treatment that Joan got for her alleged Achilles' tendon tear was an outrage. She should have had an X-ray and a doctor look a her. If he decided it was torn, then they should have scheduled a surgery. You don't just send her home with a boat and hope for the best. Old people don't heal well.
You didn’t watch the whole video. She did get the full treatment. They take very good care of the oldies in England 👍
You do not put a person that old under for surgery, they do not survive.
NP Followed PROPER treatment protocol. Tendons take a LONG time to reattach/heal. Surgery not called for.
I don't think Joan wanted to get her heel best with a brittle needle brush until her bone bled to try and get the tendon to attach to the clot. May or may not work.
You missed it. She was taken to get an x-ray…
They put a medical boot on her foot to heal the achilles tendon that seemed to be detached. But it would take months, he said.
