My daughter and I were flying through Pittsburgh to get to Philly and were walking to our gate and who flies by us but Kenny Bania nearly sprinting. It took me a second to figure out who he was, I look at my daughter she looks at me and we both screamed Bania at the same time. He heard us, waved and laughed. You could tell he’s a great guy. This would’ve been late December 1999.
He was very clever to use the idea that Bania loved Jerry instead of being his enemy. Seinfeld was lucky the way all these actors brought so much to their roles. Maybe it's not luck, he just gave them freedom
The success of the show was due to two parts - giving freedom to the actors to express themselves and develop their roles, and the writers being talented enough to adapt and write for the characters that resulted.
He played his character so well. I was glad to see him come and glad to see him go. You could see why Jerry couldn't stand him, the over eager fanatic cheerleader social awkwardness. It was so uncomfortably funny. Another great Seinfeld character that will forever be imitated. Steve you are awesome.
We just saw him tonight in Naples Florida at Off the hook Comedy Club. He had a really great set! Happy we went. Such a nice guy, too. We were able to talk to him after the show. Really awesome. If he’s coming to your neighborhood I’d definitely check him out :-)
I love the fact that Steve Hytner can talk about Bania with such enthusiasm and interest to the viewer while being the complete opposite of Bania in real life. So refreshing.
His Kenny Bania character was annoying but hilarious, one of my favorite Seinfeld episodes. Kenny: Ahh, you know what I think. I'm just going to have soup. Yeah, I'll save the meal for another time. Jerry: Another time? What other time? Kenny: I had a hot dog earlier. I'm not that hungry. Jerry: No, no, Bania, no. This is the dinner. The soup counts. Kenny: Soup's not a meal. You're supposed to buy me a meal. Jerry: I'm not stopping you from eating. Go ahead and eat. Get anything you want. Kenny: I don't want anything but soup. Jerry: Then that's the meal. Kenny: But I had the hot dog. Jerry: I didn't tell you to have a hot dog. Who told you to have a hot dog? Kenny: Hey, I give you a brand-new Armani suit, and you won't even buy me a meal? Jerry: All right, fine. Get the soup! 😁
I love how he trails Jerry all the way and gives a lot, but he has dignity! And gets really offended when jerry doesn´t aknowledge him, "You where supposed to buy me a meal!!" hahahahha
This Bania character struck an interesting balance. He was an unfunny comedian and a funny character. He had to tell jokes which didn't land, but in a funny way. Steve Hytner walked that fine line and made it look easy. His take on Bania, that he should be Jerry's biggest fan / would-be copycat comic was a stroke of genius. Also, I don't know who came up with having Bania say, "That's GOLD!!" but I have used that more than a few times in my everyday parlance (and in one or two comments).
I know they'd never do a reunion but I'd love to see bania successful and Jerry sulking over it. After Jerry went to jail bania got all the opportunities that Jerry would have gotten and became big or should I say huge.
These interviews are great and they show how smart and articulate these special characters were. Frank, Bania, Soup Nazi, Mr. Peterman, Putty-they were all first-rate. One thing about these videos, they’re edited kind of weird. They give the punchline before the setup.
My favourite Bania moment isn't actually by him, it's when George is told by Jerry that he now has a protege - Bania. Then George spits out incredulously "Bania!!!". Jason Alexander did it so perfectly, I crack up everytime.
I'm sorry Steve, the phone I recorded all that stuff for you broke. It was an honor working with you and you even hanging out with you, opening for you, in fairbanks Alaska
Great clip. Bania was a great character, and Steve Hytner did such a good job. When I first saw Bania I didn't like him at all (and you're not supposed to like him), while Steven Hytner seems immediately likeable. Yet Bania also became more appealing as the show went on, still unfunny in a funny way, but now very enjoyable to see. If Seinfeld had a 10th season, probably Puddy and Bania would be in quite a few episodes, as both of those characters were very memorable but were fairly late additions to the cast.
The Kenny Bania character was my favorite of the comedians Jerry interacted with, though they were all funny. I think Bania was the funniest hack comedian I've ever seen.
"I've been working out. I'm huge." Still makes me laugh out loud to this day!
Yeah if you’re huge from working out, you don’t have to tell people 😂
This is what made Seinfeld great....the cast of different characters that blended so well together! Still watch it today!
Steve Hytner looks like a great guy, you cant tell he's genuinely glad to have participated in the series and he still holds it close to his heart.
You can't tell? I thought you could tell.
You're gold Steve, gold.
That interview was the best, Jerry! The best!
I never get tired of watching the reruns.
My daughter and I were flying through Pittsburgh to get to Philly and were walking to our gate and who flies by us but Kenny Bania nearly sprinting. This would’ve been late December 1999.
Bania was hysterical.
My friend and I say " That's gold Jerry" to this say.
I say that one and, "The best Jerry." Lmao
He was very clever to use the idea that Bania loved Jerry instead of being his enemy. Seinfeld was lucky the way all these actors brought so much to their roles. Maybe it's not luck, he just gave them freedom
You're right and Jerry already had his adversary in Newman.
@@johnbdillon1986 The Newman character was actually my favorite on the show. Whatever Newman had going, you knew Seinfeld would find it disgusting.
Jerry hated Newman because he deserved it. He had contempt for Bania because Bania didn't even deserve his hate.
The success of the show was due to two parts - giving freedom to the actors to express themselves and develop their roles, and the writers being talented enough to adapt and write for the characters that resulted.
I honestly believe this show was touched by the hand of God. Seinfeld had this 'fluke' things happening to enrich the show almost on a weekly basis.
He played his character so well. I was glad to see him come and glad to see him go. You could see why Jerry couldn't stand him, the over eager fanatic cheerleader social awkwardness. It was so uncomfortably funny. Another great Seinfeld character that will forever be imitated. Steve you are awesome.
That's gold, Jerry! Gold! Loved the way this man said those kinda things.
Bania is the voice of a new generation! My generation!
He was really funny in that series. And yes, it was brilliant for him to use the idea that he loved Jerry. So much more unique that way.
i love this guy hes hillarious .
Hilarious, that’s a funny word. Can I use it?
We just saw him tonight in Naples Florida at Off the hook Comedy Club. He had a really great set! Happy we went. Such a nice guy, too. We were able to talk to him after the show. Really awesome.
If he’s coming to your neighborhood I’d definitely check him out :-)
Dude barely looks any different.
I used to _hate_ Bania, but rewatching now he's one of my favourite characters.
I love the fact that Steve Hytner can talk about Bania with such enthusiasm and interest to the viewer while being the complete opposite of Bania in real life. So refreshing.
Well not the complete opposite. You can definitely tell he's a cheeky guy who would mind to ruffle a feather or two 😅
Complete opposite? He acts a lot like the Bania character, in my opinion.
he’s a family friend, dude is completely unhinged in the best way possible. this interview is mild 😂
Who doesn't still use that term with friends? " That's gold!"
not original to seinfeld
@@ppumpkin3282 Where was it on before?
What a delightful person. All the best Steve!
Seinfeld missed a great oportunity to make an episody where Bania talk to Puddy.
@@arbyfc Gold Jerry Gold!
Dude shut up
The worlds would collide- not a good idea.
Awesome remark on how life is so different right now and people still relate to the show.
I loved Bania. He was hilarious!
"This *is* the meal."
No no Bania, no.
Stock up buddy boy
Nah not yet. Soup isn't a meal.
Soup’s not a meal!
"Did he crumble any crackers into the soup?"
The best, Jerry! The best!
Would like to see Steve on TV more, or a cable show, classic voice and great actor. Your gold, Steve, gold!
Bania is the best... the best, the best I say...
I'm huge Jerry, I'm a 42.
His Kenny Bania character was annoying but hilarious, one of my favorite Seinfeld episodes.

😁
Steve Hytner was hilarious on the Fred Savage sitcom, "Working". A very underrated 90' tv show.
I love how he trails Jerry all the way and gives a lot, but he has dignity! And gets really offended when jerry doesn´t aknowledge him, "You where supposed to buy me a meal!!" hahahahha
Gold, Steve, gold!
i love that this guy used his creativity to see bania from a different and better, perspective.
What a fantastic character you created, I laugh every episode you are in
I've been back to working out for the last couple of months and after a workout, I think Bania saying "ya I'm huge."
This Bania character struck an interesting balance. He was an unfunny comedian and a funny character. He had to tell jokes which didn't land, but in a funny way. One of my favorite Seinfeld universe characters
“Hey Jerry I was thinking if tonight you’re not busy maybe I can get my meal”
I love him 🙏🏿🇨🇦🙏🏿
Highly underrated character...
Hes very enthusiastic.
I like the second ‘ah it’s gold jerry, gold” better, the one when he’s doing the motivational speaking 😂😂👍🇦🇺🍻
Funny guy. Thanx.
I still steal Bania's lines.
Love Banya.
At the office, we still quote this guy!

What a lovely guy
Wow! 30 years later, Banias aged amazing?
Looks great
It's because he's been working out for 30 years.
He's huge!
Gold Jerry gold.....
I love his character 😂😂😂😂
My favourite Bania moment isn't actually by him, it's when George is told by Jerry that he now has a protege - Bania. Then George spits out incredulously "Bania!!!". Jason Alexander did it so perfectly, I crack up everytime.
Bania would have a show called -- "Comics in Trucks getting Root Beers"
He looks great! I think he looks better now than in Seinfeld. I hope he is in more things - he has a great personality!
Bania what funny character,I start laughing when see him coming
Probably the best side character. Gold, Jerry! Gold!!
Gold Jerry, gold !!
“Puke...that’s a funny word!”
Can I use that..?
Soup isn't a meal - is a classic that will live on for years. Steve should have met the soup Nazi. That would have been fun.
Only Seinfeld can have 2 episodes about soup.
He was great in Working!
That was a great little show...Only 2 seasons.
It's hilarious when he switches to the character 😅
The great Kenny Bania
He should have been a recurring character! He was hilarious
Well, he's somewhere between a one-off character and a character who is in every episode. Some people would call Kenny Bania a recurring character.
Awesome!
Nobody could ever play that part but him.
I loved him as Bania, but I also loved him as Delaney on Fred Savage's show Working.
We all can relate to knowing a Bania in our lives 😂
Bania was great
I'm sorry Steve, the phone I recorded all that stuff for you broke. It was an honor working with you and you even hanging out with you, opening for you, in fairbanks Alaska
Seinfeld, Honeymooners, King Of Queens, Odd Couple, Hogan's Heroes. Classics!
King of Queens is my favorite too
Hogan’s Heroes? Seriously?

"This is gold Jerry! Gold!!" - Kenny Bania
I still use "The best Jerry, THE BEST."
The cup is round. The jar is round. They should call it roundtine.
"That's gold jerry!! gold!!"

There’s a Mendy’s deli in NYC, I don’t know if it’s based on that…but for the longest time I thought the same thing
