    Thank you so much, your first aid kit supply suggestions are very helpful. Also am pleasantly surprised that my daughter & I already have a lot of those items due to living in the country with our dogs & horses, who have a bad habit of being "accidents waiting to happen". I just hope as a new chicken mom my feathered "kids" don't get in too much trouble 😉

    Years ago my grandmother kept chickens and I remember that when a chicken had something stuck in its crop . my grand mother would cut it open a little bit , remove what ever was there, clean and then sew it close again. give the chicken or hen a crush aspirin in sugar water with teaspoon while holding its beak open. then kept the hen away from the others. a few days. She also had cows, and did almost all the jobs a vet could do.
    Very enjoyable videos.

    I was a bit amazed by your kit. I separate a hurt chicken. I wash wounds with saline solution (tsp salt in a cup of cooled boiled water) twice a day, direct sunlight and colloidal silver ( antibiotic only for two days). Flu like symptoms I give a piece of mashed garlic in the beak. I feed fermented grains to avoid sour crop. I'm told that olive oil helps them move the food caught in the crop. Bacterial infections I add chamomile tea or apple cider vinegar to drinking water. Soft egg shells are treated by feeding the chickens ground up egg shells in their food. Occasionally spray feathers with vinegar water to deter fleas ( if I see fleas on the dog). I wash drinking water pots with vinegar occasionally. Most problems are avoided by: a good diet which includes fermented grains, green vegetables and insects; Access to sunlight around midday for vitamin D; deep mulch bedding in the coop, coop protected from wind; access to dust bath; supervising and staging integration of new members to the flock; and protecting chickens from predictors. I wear a facial mask if I have a cold to protect my chickens and when I replace the mulch bedding. Planting rosemary and mint near the coop deter insects. My daughter says that sticky fleas can be smothered by applying vaseline on the exposed skin parts. It's all much more simple...the same with human health.

    Thank you for this. We just got our first chicks last week. I guess I thought we would live with zero issues being such awesome people. 😂 last night I had to make our first chick hospital as one of them had gotten a little bloody butt and was therefore getting picked on. Thank you for all of you information. We got a pet cage for our hospital and because of you I knew to bring another chick with her. Both are doing great. I just ordered items you recommended and I will have a pet first aid kit prepared soon! I am VERY appreciative of the homeopath options. Also looking forward to trying rescue remedy on our dogs during thunderstorms!!! You Rule your community well and I will vote for you to keep your Presidential status. ❤️💜🐥💜🐥

    Why you don't have a incubator .I have a incubator and a flock of 20 chickens and another flock of 5 chickens and the new flock is going to hatch from my incubator. These two flocks live in my back yard in different cages(very big cages).In winters we try to make our cages as warm as possible by covering them with thick plastic sheets and it works perfectly ,we live in Pakistan, Multan and the temp is mostly above 38 C so we put them in cages with fibre glass roof tops which works perfectly. We give them a medicine daily in summers and winters which is mixed in their water feeder so that they stay healthy .We have been giving them this medicine every day for two years and it works well. We first took info from our vet than did this. I really love chickens other than just having them to lay eggs.
    Please reply.

      Hi, Ahmad! I would love hatching eggs but I live in an area where I can't have a bunch of roosters so I have to be careful. I like to take in chickens that don't have a home so that's another reason I don't incubate eggs. Sounds like you are giving your chickens a great life!

    Any recommendations for a chicken with a bad leg that is dropping eggs without shells? All the other chickens are doing fine laying eggs with thick shells. She was bit by a dog..I removed what looked like necrotic bone and she still limps... It's been months and it's still healing.

    • @WelcometoChickenlandia
      @WelcometoChickenlandia  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately, I think that probably will require some veterinary care. In the meantime, I would probably use the homeopathic Arnica 30c in her water for a few days and see if that helps. welcometochickenlandia.com/blog/homeopathics-for-chickens/

      @@outofeden_bushcraft3142 For many breeds it isn't so much the temperature as the number of hours of light they see as the hours of daylight get shorter their egg production declines. If you really need them to lay you could try adding supplemental light in the coop my neighbor uses red light on a timer to make a 14 hour "day". They say the red light seems to lower their agression from being cooped up during the short winter days. LED's are the safest option they bought a short string of red LED Xmas lights and a timer. NOTE anytime you run electricity into a coop there can be a risk of fire this is why my neighbor uses LED's designed to decorate Xmas trees they also put them in a clear plastic tube out of reach to protect them from being pecked. If you aren't counting on the eggs I'd just let nature take its course because year round production puts more stress on the birds.
