  • We take the time to compare the Chemical Guys Headlight Restoration Polish Compound to our standard tried and true method of sanding and polishing headlights for a comparison.
    As a short note, this video is not a promotion video. We saw the Instagram Ad for this product and felt we should try it and see if it really was as good as they promote it to be.

    The product works. Make sure to sand with 600 grit until there's no more yellow color, then sand with 2000 grit until the whole headlight is constantly smooth

    why not try the process by do sandy with the 2k and 3k first then apply the chemical guy, just like the process using on the other headlight, probably the result might be the same.

    I used the 3M Restoration kit which comes with the sand papers a foam block for sanding that the sand paper attaches too and the compound and a sealer and it works very well. The Chemical Guys stuff performed about how I expected it to or really any compound alone for that matter. I haven't used the Chemical guys product but other waxes and compounds. I feel from that experience it won't last as long as any sanding headlight restore. How long do they stay clear with your ceramic coating?

    I used the chemical guy stuff It actually does work but I do sand it prior. And when I buff it I use a 3M orange waffle cut. I do prefer the 3M fast cut and finishing compound for headlights. I also use the McGuir's fast cut and then the finishing compound. Some of our customers don't like certain products everybody thinks 3M's are the best it's not that's why I have different options.

    You didn’t wet sand the light first tho they even recommended it in the chemical guys video. Wet sand first then go for the restoration and buff out, hit with clear

    Is that an impact drill? Or is it a specific polish drill?

    Kinda curious to what hitting it with just a 1000 grit sanding disc, then the chemical guys polish, followed by the ceramic coating. Not going up to 3000, just sticking at 1000. I usually use 600-800-1000, clear coat, then after it cures I go 1500-2000, then polish and wax.

    What ceramic coating are you using that is ten year? I have seen both novice and professional coating results and not one made it 10 years. Now maybe if you are reinstalling every year or so.

    • @ThGrtCanadian
      @ThGrtCanadian 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, this would not work on glass. And if not done properly, it would actually cause more scratches.
      Glass polishing is a very different method.

    • @p2pautodetailing550
      @p2pautodetailing550  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are specific compounds and pads that should be used on Glass. But yes, there are polishing options for glass.
      Lake Country and Rupes make good ones.

    • @p2pautodetailing550
      @p2pautodetailing550  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      During our first 2 attempts with the Chemical Guys product, we followed the instructions on the bottle.
      The only difference was when we decided to try and use a heavier cutting pad and the drill to polish it.
      We've attempted using their product several times on different lights. And had the same results.
      Their product is only useful on headlights that are just barely starting to get foggy.

      We use 3M Trizat Disk. 1000 Grit and 3000 Grit. Sometimes we will use 800 grit and finish with 5000 grit. But would depend on the lights

    • @p2pautodetailing550
      @p2pautodetailing550  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Johannes Hilmer yeah 800 grit is something we rarely ever need to use. And 5000 grit is only needed if you don't have a strong cutting pad.
      Our most common method is 3000 grit sand, wool cut pad, and a 1 step cut/polish pad

  • @ciscogarcia3463
    @ciscogarcia3463 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    You will get the same results with the chemical guys if you also wet sand just like the other side was done…. It wasn’t a fair comparison…

    • @p2pautodetailing550
      @p2pautodetailing550  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      And you missed the point behind the video.
      We did exactly what the Chemical Guys instructed per their own product and labelling.
      We then performed our standard style headlight Restoration.
      The comparison of their product based on their instructions proved to provide little to NO change.
      And in nome of the Chemical Guys Instructed to wetsand. We gave it the extra step of using a rotary polish with a wool pad. So yes it is a fair comparison.

      @@flkjr2 If you bring sandpaper into the equation, what's the point of the CG Headlight Restoration? It acts as a compound/polish. Why can't you use the Chemical Guys cutting/polishing compounds to get the same results? I'll tell you why, because they want you to think you need each product they sell for a specific task. That's why their entire product line has dozens of things that accomplish the same thing under different names.

    Dude, watch your video! The editing in the beginning is very annoying, along with the background music. You are probably awesome at car detailing, making an understandable video, not so much! i know, it's a comparison of sanding vs Chemical Guys Compound, I get it. Teaching is an art, so is making a video.
