    I really wish these restorations were part of a class that could be taken for extra curricular learning...Michael, I know you've said in the past that GI Joe vehicles are difficult to restore due to Hasbros construction methods/materials/manufacturing practices but that line was "my star wars" as a kid..I'm about to embark on a journey of restoring my childhood pieces (Night Raven here I come!) and I have some donated vehicle examples coming my way as well..wish me luck! Yours and Melinda's channel has been and will continue to serve as my inspiration and guide. The tips, tricks and visual comprehension that I've received from viewing these filmed restorations have beeb invaluable. Can't wait to see what's next on your patient list! Keep on Truckin M&M! Kyle.

    Unfortunately I missed out on this one. By the time this came out I had already sold my soul to Heavy Metal, BMX bikes, chicks, Marlboro cigs, concerts and playing guitar. If I could've gotten away with it I would of bought one. Now I'm going on 50 and I find myself buying up Stormtroopers and Mandalorians.

    my son is 5, and he knows that daddy has his toys and grayson has his toys. .I keep my collection on display on a shelf. and I'm proud to say grayson will not touch them, he will look but he wont touch. I told him if he wants to look at anything ether me or mom will get it for him off the shelf and he can look. in fact he said to me the other day, ( he was standing with his arms behind his back looking at the self.) and says "daddy I want a collection like yours when I get grow up" . anyways awesome vid. cant wait till part 2

    I still have my B-Wing from 1984. The plastic has yellowed and the stickers have faded so I'm getting reference material of the studio miniature so I can airbrush it to be screen accurate. This process will be more than just a paint job as I intend to use filler to deal with the screw holes. This video has been so valuable with regard to how I'm going to improve my B-Wing.

    Good morning from germany!
    It's always great to wake up and have another Retroblasting video waiting for you.
    Great video, great topic.
    I just finished restoring the imperial shuttle:
    Completely dismanteld, thoroughly cleaned, wing mechanism and "sound" restored to working order, repro stickers. Came out great, looks great and is now the centerpiece of my imperial collection.
    Two comments on your video:
    1. Removing super glue
    Superglue, based on cyanoacrylate can be removed by rinsing ist with hot, soapy water and/or gently scraping it off with a sharp knife. Works fine for me on plastic and metal.
    It also can be dissloved with acetone.
    2. 2 components glue
    Instead of using cyanoacrylate glue try two component glue, where you mix 1 part glue and 1 part hardener manually. You have ca 2 minutes time to work with the glue before it settles. The glue is a very sticky jelly, it doesn't flow and it glues anything, is brutally strong, it becomes like plastic or resin and is able to withstand the mechanical forces of a model on display.
    For example, it works fine on the shuttles wing mechanism. It works great on the door hinges of my daughters clothes cabinet too. When dry it can be drilled or sanded, you can paint it over too.
    I just used it to repair the baseplate of a vintage AT-AT whre 5 out of 8 screws were broken off.
    For the purpose of glueing, the model/toy should always be disassemled.
    Besides, it is alway interesting and good to know how these toys were engineered and how they work internally.

    Side note, I wish we got to see more of the B-wing in Return of the Jedi. I was hoping when they brought out the remastered versions back in 1997 that they might have added more scenes as its such a unique fighter. I have the Action Fleet version but man, I would have loved this as a kid, hell, even now.

    I'm happy you've made a video about the B-Wing because I've just found one ... but I've a question maybe you or one of your viewers could answer.
    The B-Wing I bought is a Legacy Collection "Dagger Squadron B-wing Fighter" and it is missing its canopy. Do you know if the old canopy from 1984 would fit on it ?

      I know that one is on the Retroblasting projects list. I'm currently struggling with mine which was missing parts and I have some extra donor parts from ebay. But my electronics will need some soldering at this point to make them work. This is the most complicated resto I've done so far, and it definitely needs a thorough repair and assembly video to help people.

    Great video, do you know of a hack or fix for the battery cover? I have two B -Wings and both have the cover completely separated at the hinge, I bought a nice boxed on that was broken but otherwise in great shape and mine was missing a ton of parts and the battery cover was hanging on by a thread. Needless to say it is broken now too trying to remove it for the other

    Take one of those super glued junk pieces and try boiling it in water to see if the glue releases (I do this to remove super glued RC car tires from the wheels). As long as the parts don't warp (which is possible) you may be able to salvage them.

    This is a long shot but I have been hunting for months for a cockpit canopy from any variant of this B-Wing (I am not picky hah). Do you have one lying around or could you point me in the direction of where I can pick one up? I’ve scoured the internets up and down and cannot for the life of me find one. Maybe I am using the wrong verbiage.

    Awesome way to kick off 2015 with yet another restoration video. I am impressed with the engineering that went into this toy. Although I have a slight issue here: You never explained or showed the mechanism that allows the cockpit to rotate and always stay level. I assume that it just has a weight on the floor in the middle of the cockpit and then gravity does the rest. I still wish you can show it in the next video.

    Great vid as always but I have a question why do old toys look bad even compared to stuff today that's not digitaly sculpted is it the plastic because some heman and gi joes have good head sculpts but than the rest suck why is that

    • @retroblasting
      @retroblasting  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Da'Shaun Stazzola That's a rather subjective question. Can you be more specific? Are you referring to details or condition? Personally I don't think old toys "look bad" unless they're broken and abused. By extension, I would say a new toy that's broken and abused also "looks bad." Please clarify your question.

    • @damandabest6344
      @damandabest6344 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean the detail and paints why are some of the old toys. Poorr quality compares to something like a marvel legends or a mcfarlane figure from the 1990s know I love heman and she ra toys but some figures compared to others aren't that good especially in the paint department and the detail but playsets and vehicles had great detail but not always paint so why not the figs

    • @retroblasting
      @retroblasting  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because it was the 1980s and paint app technology wasn't as sophisticated. That's kinda like asking why computers of the 1990s don't have the great graphics of the computers of the 2000s. Technology marches onward, man.

    For Star Wars toys, there are plenty POTF2, POTJ, Saga, TSC, OTC, and TVC reissues of the original vehicles that there is no reason for collectors to let their kids handle their vintage versions. You can easily pick these up on ebay pretty cheap, and just give your kids a newer version of a classic trilogy vehicle to have as their own (and then you can carefully play with your's alongside your kid with theirs). The ABS and styrene plastics that's these toys were made from get very brittle with age, and were never meant to still be around at this point and still played with. I think the newer releases of these classic molded vehicles are maybe made with plastics that age better. I know many of my POTF2 vehicles seem to still have pretty flexible and forgiving plastic.
    I had stopped collecting the Star Wars line after 1982, so I never got the Speeder Bike, Imperial Shuttle, TIE Interceptor, Y-Wing, or B-Wing (let alone the A-Wing or Tatooine Skiff). I did finally pick up a vintage Y-Wing as an adult collector in the '90s because it was one vehicle that appeared in ANH and ESB, that I never got. And once those vehicles were released for the modern lines, I was able to pick up multiples for less than what a vintage would cost, and never bothered with the vintage versions of ROTJ. Since I didn't have them as a kid, I didn't have that much interest in getting a vintage when I could just pick up the modern version.

    • @brett8481
      @brett8481 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know. That's why he shouldn't have let his kid play with his vintage B-Wing. He could have picked up a TVC K-mart exclusive B-Wing cheap and let the kid play with that.

      Because that is simply not his B-Wing then. It's a matter of sentimental value, not just nostalgia. Anytime you can repair and/or restore the toy that belonged to that person as a child, it will always be more meaningful than just getting another. Plus if you are suggesting getting a Hasbro POTJ or TVC B-Wing, this is not the same as I have both of these versions and they have quite a few updates and changes from the vintage Kenner version. It's just not the same.
