Run the engine for a long time (1-2 hours) this will heat the flywheel and cause different expansion between the clutch plate and the flywheel. This has worked for me several times and saved me a lot of time and effort it's worth a try for the sake of a few litres of fuel. Good luck Ray aged 76

Excellent. That 2 pin thing on the end of the master cylinder is almost certainly the brake light switch, same as on my Austin and countless other cars. When you were pushing the clutch pedal with the piece of wood, I watched the clutch lever in the engine compartment and it didn't move at all. Such a great looking car, it gets better with every viewing. It's far from Cactus. 😄

Those rear cylinders that are bigger because they are for the front, you need Citroen C15 for the rear. On later cars the banjo fitting on the front was replaced with the angled cylinder in your video and the flexible hose seated strain into the cylinder

I actually do replace mine with every oil change 🤣 Though granted that's because it's one of those stupid designs where the rubber washer/O ring is actually part of the plug itself, and the time I didn't change it it leaked. For the sake of 3 quid, I just replace it every time now.

    • @alanmurray4246
      @alanmurray4246 ปีที่แล้ว

@@alanmurray4246 I've heard that too, it'd get you out of a spot, but still not something I'd do unless I had to.
But on mine, the bung has a rubber seal moulded onto the end of the bolt which crushes once you tighten it up. I don't know if it's a Mini/BMW thing specifically, but it's a stupid design regardless. Needless complexity.

    Whoop whoop!
    Brakes and gears.
At idle, that sounds almost like a VW. Rev it up and there’s a Citroen GS ish sound to it. I hope you have a good supply of starter components for it, though. It’s not going to crank over like that, every single time, without coming to harm.
But look at all that progress! The only way to make brakes more exciting is to ignore them completely. Then I’d be very excited indeed, especially if it was coming towards me .
This was eagerly awaited and didn’t disappoint. Thank you. Hope the house move went half as well!

Getting the brakes working is pretty exciting honestly. I know they're not properly sorted yet, but this is a massive step to getting this thing roadworthy. It's one thing to say "yeah, I'm going to get this thing back on the road" it's another to actually do it, and you're doing it mate, fair play. Wonder if there's another bloke in a shed somewhere who can rebuilt the carb.

That switch on the end of the master cylinder, is almost certainly the brake light switch. The same idea was used on Fiat 500s. Most modern cars switch the pedal instead. I thought that pressure switch was a better idea. The brake lights only come on when pressure is in the brake lines, rather than a pedal position.

About a half hour in and I need to pause for a bit.
If you haven’t solved your flexi hose problem, there used to be a company in Dublin that makes those and I’ve had custom ones made, to match otherwise unavailable ones, in the past. I’ve trawled through my phone and I can’t find them, but they were called Nobby Clarke’s and they were in Bluebell, or Walkinstown, in Dublin. I remember being amazed, because the two custom pipes were actually cheaper than the wrong ones I’d been able to buy off the shelf. I was actually lucky, because they did mine while I was waiting, but they told me they normally take a day or two, due to other work.
If I can find them and, by the end of the video you still need them, I’ll put their info on here.

    Hey there Tasty,
Greetings from the USA 🇺🇸 😀
I was wondering if any brake parts would fit from an Citroën or maybe an Renault ? With those cars being made in the same time period ! Most automobile manufacturers do share parts back and forth ! It might be an option for parts that may have came on your car at that time either as OEM supplier or as a factory option ! 🤔 I have found quite a lot of parts still available for more popular cars , that are no longer available for my car 😢 because mine was not as popular ! Anyway it is just a shot and hopefully you can find OEM parts for your cars a lot easier and cheaper as well ! The manufacturers still make the same parts including part numbers . But the parts stores don't show a listing number for cars that are no longer made even though the parts are still available for current cars ! I think the reason they do this is because they get their parts numbers from current auto manufacturers ! I hope this helps you as much as it helped me in my search for OEM parts ! Have a great day and I enjoy your shows 😊

Ah yes. I remember! Front drums often have two leading shoes, which means having two cylinders and two adjusters. Naturally, being French, Panhard decided to do neither of the normal setups, hence one cylinder, one leading and one trailing shoe, but two adjusters. Why have one job when you can have two instead, adjusting them? Citroen used to be masters of that, closely followed by Renault. Peugeot, being odd in an odd way, because French, actually tended to keep things relatively easy, for normal service items. But oh boy, dig a little deeper and things got complicated very quickly.

Decent brakes on 3 wheels is better than no/poor brakes on four, so well done on this - am I guessing correctly that the Clutch pushrod is currently swimming in PlusGas? Would a non-reciprocating hammer on the bell-housing help ?

@@tastyclassics that “should” make things a little more easier for you, hopefully, cuts out the need to spend hours fettling metal into shape. 👍

You need to service that ramp. It lost like two foot of height whilst you was working on the car

Yeh it's got a little hydraulic leak but it supposed to sit on its latches anyway so I just let it do its thing, does wake you up sometimes though when you forget about it 🤣

Yes there is a donor on its way I can hopefully cut enough panels out of to keep the floors shape, a couple more episodes away yet though!

You can forget mondeo's welding. That age Ford's sheet metal ls horrible to weld. Even without rust...

Rewatching to pass the time, and, you know, them floors don't half look like the walls of the workshop, that generic corrugated steel sheet look, could be an easy way to replace the floors, though maybe buy new sheets, unless you plan on installing windows in the shop... :P
