Absolutely knackering a night like that. Flappy tents and howling wind means no sleep.
Last time it happened to me, I bailed in the morning, headed down for a lift off the wife. Up on the tops was awful and in the Glen was sunny and warm.
I'm really enjoying the subjects and quality of your videos.
Takes me back to when I was a lad going up the hills with my mates. We are all scattered now so I go solo but I don't get the chance to get home to Scotland for much.
    Well done.

More stunning scenery! Oh, I can just imagine how cold it was at your camp lol. There's nothing like crazy strong winds to wear you down. At least you guys had one day up there, and an adventure shared. It gives some peace of mind knowing you're not alone out there, too. Thanks for sharing.

Wow! That was the most beautiful walk-in route to - was it Loch nan Eun? Right on the Perthshire - Aberdeenshire boundary, that is! And as your caption says on the second summit... you'll remember those views for a very long time. But, my, it doesn't half get wild up there - and there's not even a fence post to stop it! That's no much fun when you can't sleep and it's all about survival until it gets light enough to escape. You did well though - and you're so philosophical, which is a great quality to possess. Yes - every step we take in life is a learning curve...!

Great video, with a nice wee narrative. I think that I was out in the Drumochter Munros on your second day and the MWIS *was* warning about the winds even though the BBC wasn't: the BBC weather forecast has been utterly useless since they stopped using the Met Office and saved money by outsourcing to a French company.
I love Loch nan Eun, where you camped, although I've seen substantial icebergs floating in it in April! It's great for the three surrounding Munros, but your chosen route must be the hardest route imaginable for An Socach and Carn Bhac! I did the latter in winter from Glen Ey and, like you, I remember the climb up Carn Bhac (across the peat hags by the Allt Carn Bhathaich) as being one of the hardest I I've done, despite it being a wee munro.

    • @ScottishSummiteer
      @ScottishSummiteer  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yeh that’s what we thought as-well. Felt unbelievably hard. Worth it for the views though 😊

Well, I'm sure you grabbed people's attention with that adventure!
Winter in Scotland is when outdoor enthusiasts learn lessons. Sometimes, the hard way.
At least you have now tested your tent under pretty brutal conditions (good old Vango) and survived a sleepless night relatively unscathed.😨
By contrast, the first day of your trip up Gleann Taitneach (classic case of multiple gaelic spellings!) to Loch nan Eun, loch of the birds, and I can affirm encountering a pair of Whooper Swans resting there, no doubt on their winter return from Iceland.
It is a very special place in my memory, a peaceful, high-level loch, a long way from anywhere, ringed by a circle of hills, perfect for a wild camp in good conditions!!
The hills around are gentle in their topography but excel in trackless distance and roughness/bogginess, as you learnt in this video!!
No worries, the hills will be there to enjoy another day😊.

    Hello Gregor 🙋‍♂️.
    Brilliant video - Thanks !!
Not getting enough sleep 💤 🛏
    due to the challenging weather
gives me a sore head 🤯 the
    following day !!
    I am convinced it’s something
to do with the altitude I am at !!
If I find myself in that situation
I normally bail as soon as there is
light and head back to my campervan.
I went through a similar experience as
you guys whilst hiking 🥾 in Skye.
To be honest with you - when this happens
I can’t even be bothered eating anything !!
Just get up, pack up - and head back
grunting all the way down to my camper.
I have even crashed out with my kit on !!
and woke up in the middle of the following
day still knackered and cold 🥶 in
    my van !! It’s not a brilliant feeling…
BTW - maybe an idea if you are hiking 🥾
with the same dude 🏔 🚶🚶‍♂️🎒 to think
about a set of “Motorola Walkie Talkies”
for you both - that way you can both stay in your tents ⛺️ and just communicate as opposed to having to walk to each other’s
tents ⛺️ if the weather is against you !!
They are cheap and light to carry and
another string to your safety back up
    if ever needed !!
    Thanks 🙏
Take care and stay safe 🫶✌️
    James…..

It just shows how quick the sugar can turn to shit, when you play with Mother Nature
I've often wondered if you guys use GPS's on your tramps, like we do in NZ since the technology become readily available?
They're an essential bit of kit these days especially when it clags in with fog, or you run out of daylight ..... NZ conditions are a bit different a lot of the time, as in, we are often in heavy bush, with no sky, or land mark views to negotiate by
Play safe you mad keen young buggers, and bring on heaps more videos
