If you're not so inclined toward stabbing things in the dark. You could always drop a frenzy poison, or cast a frenzy spell on him. He'll attack everyone around him. He'll usually attack his own bodyguard and die. Haha! I'm playing on the highest difficulty, and didn't have a strong enough frenzy poison on me, unfortunately. Mogrul demands money from you if you do the quest to get Neloth a new servant. No wonder that guy was so eager to leave! He'll keep sending hired goons to attack you until you pay up, and this can get rather annoying... especially on higher difficulties.
