I find it funny that you can catch vampirism by just fighting vampires alone, and as a dawn guard that’s your job, but Isran makes it sound like you caught vampirism on your own terms
I mean it’s a pretty poor vampire Hunter to let an infection fester like that… you’ve got a few days and it’s not hard to get rid of (and even if we don’t meta game with the UI, there’s prob signs or tests that can be done after you get injured by a vampire). Any elder scrolls vampire Hunter that lets themselves turn is either a fool or did it on purpose, I don’t think isran likes the idea of either one being in the dawn guard.
I get that it’s a game dev thing, but wouldn’t it make sense for the group that deals with the vampire threat to also have someone on-site who deals with curing those infected?
The irony is they tolerate Serana pretty well, and she was always a vampire from Harkon’s own court I might add. Why should you, a full Dawnguard member, be the target of worse scrutiny than Serana?
Hypocrisy and negligence for starters. Serana was a vampire for thousands of years forced into by her family. Despite having to betray her father in the process, she helps you and is an important factor in your victory. The Dragonborn on the other hand has no reason to become a vampire while a part of the Dawnguard and has easy means of preventing himself from becoming one.
They offer the Dragonborn potions. There's shrines that cure it. The Dragonborn has days to cure an infection before he actually turns. The only instant means of becoming a vampire is accepting the royal blood to become a vampire lord which requires the Dragonborn to openly accept vampirism from the enemy. Frankly, they should be more insulted and hostile than they are if you are a vampire lord verses having a minor form of vampirism. Maybe they can't tell the difference with just that spell.

@@B-rex395 i believe that is after the part where he checks you (unless maybe it triggers again if you get infected later). i haven't tested it at that point. There are other means of getting into the soul carin without becoming a vampire. You just need a soul gem if my memory serves, and there's tons of filled ones you can get pretty easy without having to resort to soul trapping some poor bastard yourself. It's not like you can free the trapped soul from his fate once he goes into the gem anyways. If it was the only realistic option to get in, then i can see the Dawnguard being understanding of it but only on the condition that the Dragonborn cures himself soon proving it was only a temporary means to an ends.
It's just Bethesda being SJW "do not offend anyone" kind of writing before it became mainstream. Noone cares, noone wants to be involved. Noone even wants to help you cure it. For example, one would think Durak would be like "friend, I know how to cure you, I won't let you turn to a vampire, I'll take you to Morthal and help you with it".

It settles in for three days if you aren’t cured until then you become a vampire. You can also go to the shrines to cure yourself. Or if you’re like me and become a leader of the companions also being werewolf which gives you 100% disease resistance than you will never catch it because now you’re both Dragonborn and Moon-Blood.
Well i never had that problem as i am a cowardly conjuration+destruction mage and am nowhere near any enemies at all. Gotta try this vampire route with a melee character sometime
@@harrai6530 My character is a jack of all trades (good at everything). But I’m mostly on the offensive and melee style because of the duel wielding. Earlier in my playthrough I did get hit by a vampire and killed him and contracted sanguinis vampiris and had to get that cured right away from going to a shrine of arkay.

One of my really big gripes with vampirism in Skyrim is just because I'm a vampire it doesn't make me some mindless killing machine. Just look at high king emeric in eso, he even fully trusted house ravenwatch
I never found dialogue for it but I loved joining the Dawnguard after becoming Harbinger of the Companions and keeping lycanthropy. The idea of someone saying “enemy of my enemy” or something always entertained me.
yeah the only dialogue is with Harkon. But one must wonder how Isran would react to that as well. I mean it's far easier to maintain. Just gotta release the beast in some secluded area once in a while, not even necessary to feed.
I think you only get the one line at the begining after that its pretty much the same thing because you end up having to go the vampire route to finish the dawngaurd questline anyway thats why I simply cut out the middle man andusually played as a vampire lord anyway
@@MultiMoe11 you dont have to become a vampire to finish the quest. You can have serana soul trap a portion of your soul. You can retrieve your soul fragment after you defeat dournavir.
Dumbest thing is, even if the Dawnguard accepts Serana in the end, they still treat you like garbage. It should really be an option to just go beat up Harkon yourself without their help.
i have been playing this game for 10 years and i still did not join the dawnguard. They seemed bootleg witchers to me. Vampires are much more cooler and better executed in this dlc
@@zomberkay Its the opposite for me; never really played the Vampire questline. Dawnguard always seemed cooler, especially since there is a lot more modded content. You get quests like getting to collect schematics to upgrade a crossbow design (never used crossbows but their pretty cool looking and really fit the aesthetic) and you get to have trained armored trolls and such. As for the questline, its a lot of go here and go there, but the characters are at least nice to you. Even Isran after the questline. Most people seem to prefer the Dawnguard Questline more than the Vampire Court questline, and this may be why there is a lot more fan-content for it. Though, the primary reason I don't join is because I'm either am werewolf or was a werewolf and my character wanted to not bind himself to the daedra like that again. Roleplaying as Bootleg Orc Van Helsing is pretty fun, all things considered. Especially with things like Ordinator where you can set traps and shit, makes you feel like a real Monster Hunter.
Agreed, but the only way you can fight him without them. Is if you chose the vampire side of this DLC. Personally I find it a waste, that Bethesda coded it that way. Since in my case Im L45+, mostly when I do this DLC. But when you a higher level, the dawngaurd npc's just get themselves killed, when its time to attack Harkon. Makes me feel like Bethesda, wanted the "vampire rout" to be the cannon outcome.
It's always seemed pretty cruel to me that you have to potentially become a vampire to enter the Soul Cairn, learn what it's all about, then have to condemn some random bandit to a black soul gem to continue on the Dawnguard story.
There's also the option of partial soul trapping yourself instead of being infected then reclaiming your soul, but I always enjoy being a temporary vampire instead.
This is something I've actually tried once. Sorine instructed me to go see Fallion in Morthal. This happened after Serana turned me into a vampire after completing the Dawnguard questline.
Good Ending: Kill Harkon and his Volkihar gang as a Dawnguard and bring peace upon Skyrim. Neutral Ending: Kill Harkon and become the new vampire lord of Castle Volkihar. Bad Ending: Reject Vampire Lord blood, join the Dawnguard yet get infected with weak vampirism. Both sides hate you, good job. Molag Bal Ending: Molag bal bangs you and you get that royal blood from the first hand.

@@Jadenforeverything Also, let's point out the fact the Vivec's spear was canonically Molag Bal's dick which Vivec bit off after willingly doing him for 80 something days straight while Vivec was in his female form. Molag Bal obviously regenerated it later. However, it's a really sharp spear, and I doubt he dulled it when it grew back. Knowing how badly it ended with Vivec, Molag Bal probably added barbs or some other horrific thing to it.
On another note, Vivec once stopped Azura from doing something and bound her to Nirn or some other plane of existence by shoving that spear down her throat.
You might be able to fuck with Vivec in the literal sense, but he is not someone to be fucked with in the metaphorical. Or, maybe in the literal sense as well. Molag Bal might be an asshole, but Vivec did him dirty.

@FaithGamer Haha, when I tried playing as a vampire for the first time I noped out again two minutes later, after realising that even I, the player, would have this completely obvious vampire look. I had somehow assumed this was only on the NPCs for some reason. Like you say, makes absolutely no sense for every single person to be this oblivious. But there's nothing the Skyrim community and their modding abilities can't fix. :D
Ya I remember before finding out about that limitation I had an idea to roleplay a Farmboy who had been infected with vampirism and now was fueled by vengeance to slay the monsters who turned him into one using the very same curse they gave him. Then the game said no and that rad playthrough died
I always thought it was unfortunate you couldn't side with the Dawnguard while being a vampire. After all they accept Serana eventually. And not all vampires are evil.
Probably because it's hypocritical and goes against the clearly stated beliefs of the Dawnguard. Serena was a vampire for thousands of years before you even met her and has family that forced her into it, but even though she must go against her own family, she still helps you. And, the Dawnguard still aren't exactly happy with her still being a vampire. On the other hand, the Dragonborn has every means and reason not to become a vampire. There are cure disease things everywhere, and you can get cure disease potions from the Dawnguard. The only two ways for the Dragonborn to be a vampire is by choosing not to cure himself in the several days after getting infected or by willingly accepting it from the enemy. With a simple infection, he would have to be super lazy and/or stupid to unintentionally get himself turned while a member of the Dawnguard.

The game even says the sunlight makes you feel weak, so what would someone do? They'd stay home, get bed rest and then become a vampire unknowingly.

I like the idea that everyone is absolutely afraid you'll lose control and fall to your basic instincts of blood sucking without ever knowing the fact the dragonborn is entirely immune to these affects.

Wish there was a way to convince them to let you keep your vampirism. My approach to the Volkihar vampires is Integra Hellsing's approach, "The best defense against a vampire is another, more powerful vampire."

Durak doesn't notice that you are a vampire, hell, you can even walk to the fort as a vampire first time and no one pays mind, everything goes normal until this event.
Isran actually has a different reaction if you start the dawnguard dlc as a vampire when you bring back the other two, he comments on why a vampire wants to help kill other vampires. Found this out when I was doing a vampire run but didn’t want to join castle volcahar because I had to glitch my way into there to complete the first quest.
Is more than murder it sends their soul to the soul cairn or Azura. Not that I care since I love soul trapping people to power my soul trapping weapon.
I really like playing as a vampire lord because it gives an insane boost to a spell caster build but the dawn gaurd is cool too with its crossbows and battle trolls and also its exploding elemental bolts.
Well, Isran clearly did since he's checking, but you'd think he would have done that sooner than he did. I'm surprised there wasn't any restro magic traps on the path to the castle that would have killed, or at least wounded, any vampires that stepped over them. Unless maybe you meant the Dawnguard having a vampire on their side help spy on the vampire lords? I don't think they trust vampires enough to do that. They tolerate Serana, but the Dragonborn is with her and is the main force leading the fight against the vampires.
Gotta love how they're so scared about you losing control as a vampire, but will readily work with werewolves who can also be overwhelmed with bloodlust.
fun fact: you can avoid the check just by standing in the shadows. and that's that. also, past a certain point you can become a vampire lord and will only come around and bite you in the ass (about as hard when the Dawnguard discover that your a vampire here) at the end of the main Dawnguard DLC quest
@bill2908 he talks about extending his life with magic, and mentions how he first looked to becoming a vampire for that very reason. He also makes note of several historical events that took place centuries before skyrim, like meeting living dwarves on the mortal plane. Also, Phinis Gestor, at least a 60-70 year old Breton, was once Fallions student. However, Fallion looks physically to be at most 30-40 years old. I don't know for sure if he's lived for centuries, but he's lived much longer than any normal redguard.
I remember I once did an Alucard/Hellsing playthrough; I'd join the Dawnguard and be a vampire hunter while also being a vampire. I had to get cured I think 2 or 3 times over the course of the playthrough, but it was kinda funny.
So, there is only one guy in Skyrim who can heal vampirism. And the moment a random vampire walks into the Dawnguard, everyone tells him the exact location of said person? I fear for Falion life right now :D
Makes me so mad that vampirism = evil. If we look back at Oblivion, the Count of Skingrad is literally a vampire, but he's beloved by his people and do what he can to protect them and stop anything from harming his people, and hates vampires that 'fell to their animal instinct.' Granted the vampirism in Cyrodill is different to that in Skyrim, but I don't like the idea of saying Skyrim's vampirism suddenly takes all morality and humanity straight from its victims.
Skyrim vampires can do the same in a lot of cases but choose not to. There’s a sad Dawnguard quest I hate doing where you hunt down a civilians vampire friend. Think they were chill until reported

They dont react to lycanthropy so its best to become a werewolf before starting dawnguard to give you complete immunity to vampirism if you go dawnguard route
A long time ago I was playing on the vampire side with a mod better vampires, after finishing the whole dlc story they then gave me the quest to wipe out the dawnguard, so I killed all of them and turned them into vampires as well lol
You'd think the Dawnguard would have their own version of "You're not supposed to be in here!" rather than infinite patience in the presence of a vampire.

they're soldiers, not medieval sorcerer scientists, plus it's a supernatural disease that is far more complex to cure than standard illnesses, and the only one who happens to know the cure is a freelancing medieval sorcerer scientist.
Now this is kinda funny. In one of my playthroughs a long time ago, I didn't realize I had vampirism until it was too late and instead of getting these convos with the Dawnguard they all outright attacked me.
It is said that Arkai cried when Lamae became a vampire as he knew that what Molag Bal did could not be undone. Yet Falion managed to find a way. Can we show some appreciation to the guy who bested an Aedra?
Seeing Falion is probably just for rp reasons, but hopefully players remember that cure disease potions exist and get yourself sorted soon after your character gets infected. Hell, you can even get that potion for free in a Khajiit caravan merchant chest.
FYI there is a mod that lets you join and stay on with the Dawnguard as a vampire. No silly demands for you to go see Falion, they just treat you normally. Check it out on the Nexus.
When I got my first playthrough, I somehow chose to become a vampire. I hoped that I would still be an ally of the cool - looking Dawnguards, but when they attacked me, I got quite sad, even after talking to Falion they were my enemies. So, on my next playthrough, I surely will aid them in this conflict
I kinda wish the game still let you work for the dawnguard. It makes sense that they'd be distrustful, but surely you could convince them you want to fight other vampires

One of my really big gripes with vampirism in Skyrim is just because I'm a vampire it doesn't make me some mindless killing machine. Just look at high king emeric in eso, he even fully trusted house ravenwatch
There's also Sybille in Solitude. She definitely chomps down on the occasional prisoner in Castle Dour, but mostly tows the line.

I never found dialogue for it but I loved joining the Dawnguard after becoming Harbinger of the Companions and keeping lycanthropy. The idea of someone saying “enemy of my enemy” or something always entertained me.
yeah the only dialogue is with Harkon. But one must wonder how Isran would react to that as well. I mean it's far easier to maintain. Just gotta release the beast in some secluded area once in a while, not even necessary to feed.
I think you only get the one line at the begining after that its pretty much the same thing because you end up having to go the vampire route to finish the dawngaurd questline anyway thats why I simply cut out the middle man andusually played as a vampire lord anyway
@@MultiMoe11 you dont have to become a vampire to finish the quest. You can have serana soul trap a portion of your soul. You can retrieve your soul fragment after you defeat dournavir.

i have been playing this game for 10 years and i still did not join the dawnguard. They seemed bootleg witchers to me. Vampires are much more cooler and better executed in this dlc

@@zomberkay Its the opposite for me; never really played the Vampire questline. Dawnguard always seemed cooler, especially since there is a lot more modded content. You get quests like getting to collect schematics to upgrade a crossbow design (never used crossbows but their pretty cool looking and really fit the aesthetic) and you get to have trained armored trolls and such.
As for the questline, its a lot of go here and go there, but the characters are at least nice to you. Even Isran after the questline. Most people seem to prefer the Dawnguard Questline more than the Vampire Court questline, and this may be why there is a lot more fan-content for it.
Though, the primary reason I don't join is because I'm either am werewolf or was a werewolf and my character wanted to not bind himself to the daedra like that again. Roleplaying as Bootleg Orc Van Helsing is pretty fun, all things considered. Especially with things like Ordinator where you can set traps and shit, makes you feel like a real Monster Hunter.
Agreed, but the only way you can fight him without them. Is if you chose the vampire side of this DLC.
Personally I find it a waste, that Bethesda coded it that way.
Since in my case Im L45+, mostly when I do this DLC. But when you a higher level, the dawngaurd npc's just get themselves killed, when its time to attack Harkon.
Makes me feel like Bethesda, wanted the "vampire rout" to be the cannon outcome.
It's always seemed pretty cruel to me that you have to potentially become a vampire to enter the Soul Cairn, learn what it's all about, then have to condemn some random bandit to a black soul gem to continue on the Dawnguard story.
There's also the option of partial soul trapping yourself instead of being infected then reclaiming your soul, but I always enjoy being a temporary vampire instead.

This is something I've actually tried once. Sorine instructed me to go see Fallion in Morthal. This happened after Serana turned me into a vampire after completing the Dawnguard questline.
It's a 9 year old quest line. I think every Skyrim player has had this happen and knows about this.
Good Ending: Kill Harkon and his Volkihar gang as a Dawnguard and bring peace upon Skyrim.
Neutral Ending: Kill Harkon and become the new vampire lord of Castle Volkihar.
Bad Ending: Reject Vampire Lord blood, join the Dawnguard yet get infected with weak vampirism. Both sides hate you, good job.
Molag Bal Ending: Molag bal bangs you and you get that royal blood from the first hand.
I'm not into this shit ... but hey, power is power. I'd definitely choose a Molag Bal ;p

@@Jadenforeverything Also, let's point out the fact the Vivec's spear was canonically Molag Bal's dick which Vivec bit off after willingly doing him for 80 something days straight while Vivec was in his female form. Molag Bal obviously regenerated it later. However, it's a really sharp spear, and I doubt he dulled it when it grew back. Knowing how badly it ended with Vivec, Molag Bal probably added barbs or some other horrific thing to it.
On another note, Vivec once stopped Azura from doing something and bound her to Nirn or some other plane of existence by shoving that spear down her throat.
You might be able to fuck with Vivec in the literal sense, but he is not someone to be fucked with in the metaphorical. Or, maybe in the literal sense as well. Molag Bal might be an asshole, but Vivec did him dirty.

The irony is that you can start the Dawnguard quest as a vampire and no-one cares or notices until this moment here. Like... they had a vampire working with them and doing chores for WEEKS but now that Isran found his magnifying glass it's suddenly a problem.
@FaithGamer Haha, when I tried playing as a vampire for the first time I noped out again two minutes later, after realising that even I, the player, would have this completely obvious vampire look. I had somehow assumed this was only on the NPCs for some reason. Like you say, makes absolutely no sense for every single person to be this oblivious. But there's nothing the Skyrim community and their modding abilities can't fix. :D

I always thought it was unfortunate you couldn't side with the Dawnguard while being a vampire. After all they accept Serana eventually. And not all vampires are evil.
Probably because it's hypocritical and goes against the clearly stated beliefs of the Dawnguard. Serena was a vampire for thousands of years before you even met her and has family that forced her into it, but even though she must go against her own family, she still helps you. And, the Dawnguard still aren't exactly happy with her still being a vampire. On the other hand, the Dragonborn has every means and reason not to become a vampire. There are cure disease things everywhere, and you can get cure disease potions from the Dawnguard. The only two ways for the Dragonborn to be a vampire is by choosing not to cure himself in the several days after getting infected or by willingly accepting it from the enemy. With a simple infection, he would have to be super lazy and/or stupid to unintentionally get himself turned while a member of the Dawnguard.

The game even says the sunlight makes you feel weak, so what would someone do? They'd stay home, get bed rest and then become a vampire unknowingly.

Well pretty sure I once joined Harkon's court, then cured myself of vampirism & became a werewolf. The other vampires were not very pleased with having a werewolf as their leader. 😆
I like the idea that everyone is absolutely afraid you'll lose control and fall to your basic instincts of blood sucking without ever knowing the fact the dragonborn is entirely immune to these affects.
Bein dragonborn has nothing to do with bein inmune to those efects, you need a strong will like the nerevarin or the champion of cyrodill

Man, the Dawnguard should just keep you as a vampire and use you as a spy.
Isran actually has a different reaction if you start the dawnguard dlc as a vampire when you bring back the other two, he comments on why a vampire wants to help kill other vampires. Found this out when I was doing a vampire run but didn’t want to join castle volcahar because I had to glitch my way into there to complete the first quest.
Is more than murder it sends their soul to the soul cairn or Azura. Not that I care since I love soul trapping people to power my soul trapping weapon.
I really like playing as a vampire lord because it gives an insane boost to a spell caster build but the dawn gaurd is cool too with its crossbows and battle trolls and also its exploding elemental bolts.
I always join the vampires. I try to keep the remaining volkihar on a short leash after taking harkon's place. at least that is my thought.

Well, Isran clearly did since he's checking, but you'd think he would have done that sooner than he did. I'm surprised there wasn't any restro magic traps on the path to the castle that would have killed, or at least wounded, any vampires that stepped over them. Unless maybe you meant the Dawnguard having a vampire on their side help spy on the vampire lords? I don't think they trust vampires enough to do that. They tolerate Serana, but the Dragonborn is with her and is the main force leading the fight against the vampires.

fun fact: you can avoid the check just by standing in the shadows. and that's that. also, past a certain point you can become a vampire lord and will only come around and bite you in the ass (about as hard when the Dawnguard discover that your a vampire here) at the end of the main Dawnguard DLC quest

It's probably very difficult, seeing as Fallion has done so many outlandish things and has lived hundreds of years.

@bill2908 he talks about extending his life with magic, and mentions how he first looked to becoming a vampire for that very reason. He also makes note of several historical events that took place centuries before skyrim, like meeting living dwarves on the mortal plane.
Also, Phinis Gestor, at least a 60-70 year old Breton, was once Fallions student. However, Fallion looks physically to be at most 30-40 years old.
I don't know for sure if he's lived for centuries, but he's lived much longer than any normal redguard.

Still haven’t played the Dawngard side of things throughout my numerous playthroughs of Skyrim being a vampire’s too fun
I remember I once did an Alucard/Hellsing playthrough; I'd join the Dawnguard and be a vampire hunter while also being a vampire. I had to get cured I think 2 or 3 times over the course of the playthrough, but it was kinda funny.
So, there is only one guy in Skyrim who can heal vampirism. And the moment a random vampire walks into the Dawnguard, everyone tells him the exact location of said person? I fear for Falion life right now :D

Makes me so mad that vampirism = evil. If we look back at Oblivion, the Count of Skingrad is literally a vampire, but he's beloved by his people and do what he can to protect them and stop anything from harming his people, and hates vampires that 'fell to their animal instinct.'
Granted the vampirism in Cyrodill is different to that in Skyrim, but I don't like the idea of saying Skyrim's vampirism suddenly takes all morality and humanity straight from its victims.
Skyrim vampires can do the same in a lot of cases but choose not to. There’s a sad Dawnguard quest I hate doing where you hunt down a civilians vampire friend. Think they were chill until reported

They dont react to lycanthropy so its best to become a werewolf before starting dawnguard to give you complete immunity to vampirism if you go dawnguard route
that was one of my biggest gripes you don't get any extra lines for being a werewolf but there is all this extra voice lines for being a vampire
A long time ago I was playing on the vampire side with a mod better vampires, after finishing the whole dlc story they then gave me the quest to wipe out the dawnguard, so I killed all of them and turned them into vampires as well lol
You'd think the Dawnguard would have their own version of "You're not supposed to be in here!" rather than infinite patience in the presence of a vampire.
They're a lot more forgiving than I expected them to be

they're soldiers, not medieval sorcerer scientists, plus it's a supernatural disease that is far more complex to cure than standard illnesses, and the only one who happens to know the cure is a freelancing medieval sorcerer scientist.

Seeing Falion is probably just for rp reasons, but hopefully players remember that cure disease potions exist and get yourself sorted soon after your character gets infected. Hell, you can even get that potion for free in a Khajiit caravan merchant chest.

FYI there is a mod that lets you join and stay on with the Dawnguard as a vampire. No silly demands for you to go see Falion, they just treat you normally. Check it out on the Nexus.
When I got my first playthrough, I somehow chose to become a vampire. I hoped that I would still be an ally of the cool - looking Dawnguards, but when they attacked me, I got quite sad, even after talking to Falion they were my enemies. So, on my next playthrough, I surely will aid them in this conflict

I kinda wish the game still let you work for the dawnguard. It makes sense that they'd be distrustful, but surely you could convince them you want to fight other vampires
