JC, if you’re flying the drone from there toward Sarasota point, unless you happen to drop in the new and very narrow 10’ deep pass channel, you’re likely dropping your bait in few feet of water. Your best play from there would be to fly the drone NW about a quarter mile. The deepest water close to shore on S Lido is right at your feet.
JC when I shark fish the Gulf Coast I drop the bait over the sand bar. Many times the Black Tips are crusing the bar looking for the whiting and easy prey. I use to drop the bait super far out, but have had more success with Black Tips closer in. Also, check the shark fishing regulations on stainless steel hooks. Tight lines brother! You are doing a great job! You represent fishermen well!
JC you should be using the circle hooks to catch the waiting they’ll never swallowed the hook and you don’t even have to set the hook you just start reeling and you’ll be on every time and none of them will swallow the hook.

Next time use a spudnik sinker. It will help your chances of putting the bait exactly where you want it. Especially in heavy current and if you're using the drone. Anyway just a tip from a fellow btown fisherman 🤟❤️🐟
The shark bite has been HOT in the Crystal River area. As for using rubber bands to hold bait? I don't recommend that. It can cause harm to sea life. I do recommend brining leftover (shrimp) LIVE baits with lots of salt before freezing. This will firm up bait and prevent mushy baits that fall off hook.
Right behind you (where you were eating) about a week or so ago below the docks was hundreds of mangroves, small and keeper sized. You can cast to them from the beach (i was on my boat and site casted to them). They also like to hang out at the mote boat that is usually docked at the salty dog. Great video, whiting is good eating and so are the burgers at that bait shop.

Hey J.C , do you ever use lures too when surf fishing ? When I go surf fishing I always have multiple rods out with live bait, and I usually have one rod that I play around with lures to increase my odds.
There's a wade fishing spot next to the those Snook...I'm thinking a knocker rig with a 4oz sinker would get the bait past the pelicans, then it's gong to be Snook on, ha ha...

What I do for shark bait is fish them alive but wounded.I butterfly the one side about 1-2" of their tail depending on size of the bait.1" is probably plenty though on any size bait. Insert the hook near their anus,this will keep them trying to swim up. I've caught caught 5-5.5' sharks no more than 40 yds out.They "smell" that blood and feel the vibrations from it being wounded.
I did not know that. Thanks. ive been buying sardines and cigar minnows from walmart. I need to do a comparison on bait shop frozen vs walmart frozen. sometimes i put scent on my frozen just to make it even more irresistible.

Hey jc! If you plan on getting a new surf reel for blacktips that holds plenty of line, then I highly recommend the pursuit 4 8000. It’s at a great price and I’ve caught plenty of blacktips and spinners on it! I like 65 lb braid on it. 🤙
'keep swallowing the hook'. Well duh, look at the cheap ass long shank hooks you are using. Maybe spend a couple more cents and use circle hooks. Give the fish a break.
I have tried that area years ago but never caught pomps there. Don't worry I won't give it away. I also grabbed bait from that place but definitely going to grab a burger there next time. It looked good. Tight lines! Keep trying... you will get that shark and would love to see a catch and cook on it!

Thanks for watching. I don't salt baits. I generally put things in the freezer if I'm planning on using them at a different time.

They generally run during the spring and fall, it all depends on the water temperatures as to when they start and how long they stay.

Ohh BTW,that isn't a S.S. hook is it? If I remember right on the FL shark license test S.S. hooks are illegal.

I got lucky and found some Pompano when they were running there. The bite only lasted three days and they disappeared.
