There are lots of those sometimes there are really dirty that you need to use isopropyl alcohol but with a little brush and with ip you can clean it and it works, a lot of times ds and 3ds failures is because of dirtyness.
i had a supermario world ds cart i was given, that had gone through the washer and wouldn't work. Bit of a clean with alcohol and a swab and was good as new. You really have to work hard at destroying nintendo systems and games for the most part.
If I can offer some constructive criticism, I reckon with a set of dental picks that pin could have been straightened without removing the shield. I would also HIGHLY recommend a chisel tip for your soldering iron.
But also doing it the hard way and not mentioning that it could’ve been done easier, Will lead to someone with the same issue doing more damage and costing more than needed. Flip side to every coin
Cori Arview the N64 is a likely yes, but once a game cartridge stops working, it doesn’t work anymore (but do check for dust and debris obscuring the pins)
@@homeboye8632 generally true, although you can still look into fixing traces or moving rom chips onto a donor board in many cases if cleaning won't fix. But at that point it depends on if its worth it to put in the effort
I got a lot of 3 dsi's for around £20 a few years ago. One had a busted top screen, the other a broken bottom screen and the guy said the third was just very dim. Turned out he had it on the lowest brightness. Nothing else wrong with it.
replacing the cart slot is a lot like the ds lite one. supermodchips in Australia has some great vids still on their TH-cam. If you're just gonna replace it clip off the soder points with flush cutters(we call em diag. cutters here) and ADD FLUX to help get those points clean!
Yes well done bro.. your solder work is mad clean. Stoked to see you actually take the time to clean and prep all the contact points pre soldering.. I was even happy to see Mario pop up.. haha
The pins get bent when people use aftermarket memory cards without the little plastic guide fins, I nearly did the same myself until i saw what it could do. Great job btw
That's completely understandable that's why they sell that little adapter to do quick saves I actually found one in the trash in perfect condition along with a working sp..
I had a DSi with the same problem. i put this video on in the background while i was fixing mine and i made it 10 minutes into the video until i had the pin bent back. you dont need to remove the metal shield, you dont need to remove the board itself, you dont need to do any of that. you can take off the back cover, on top of the shield is a little opening that is pretty much a perfect hole straight to the pins, through there you can just use anything tiny and bend the pin back, hold the battery in place on the board while you turn the DSi on, test the game slot and boom, 10 minutes spent and the DSi is fixed
i got a dsi for 10 euros fully working and it had a game the ds didnt read the game but i just gave the slot a good clean with some isopropyl alcohol and it worked
I think you need a better soldering iron, I am no expert on soldering, but when my solder keeps bridging I find it sorts itself out with a bit more heat from the iron. I also use a chisel tip on my iron for most applications.
I have to reopen my ds 10 time's till finaly worked those ribbon cables are a nightmare to be put back properly Also the replacement cartrige soket buy from China are no were near the quality of the original and the brake in no time
Really helpful video. Love seeing these different consoles. Keep u0 the awesome work 👍 Definitely gonna be having a look at Z-lab. I'm doing some gameboy repairs ina bit and might need aome spare parts.
I broke the touch screen connector trying to change the motherboard in a Nintendo DS Lite so now I have to order two new motherboards what a shame that's two Nintendo's out of order until I get the motherboard's. The touch screen connecter is so hard to put the ribbon cable in and it's so small FML lol
The switch is so the system knows if there is a gamecard in it Also the company you got the new part from is good I got my new GBA ext ports from them and they have the same quality as the OEM parts
I know it's not very popular but DSI is my non-3DS DS of choice. I like the design, lack of GBA compatibility is not important to me (don't like how the GBA cartridges fit in the original and and Lite anyway), nice menu interface and even if the camera isn't too great it's fun to play with.
Would it be alright with you if I have you fix a New Nintendo 3DS XL galaxy edition? It's a seemingly minor issue, related to the B-button. I have to hold it down at an angle in order to keep it pressed and responding to a long press. Simple ticks on the button will work either way, but not when holding down the button.
Elliot your videos are super entertaining for me and funny as heck! I also learn a lot while watching all your video's. Thanks for the awesome content!
More cheap, you can install twilightmenu++ on your DSi's SD card instead, other way, you can to put a piece of paper in the slot, after this put your game card and works ^_^
I recently broke the touch connector P18, and really don't know where to get one. I did some research on AliExpress but I don't know which is the right connector. Help me please hahaha
I got a regular Nintendo dsi and it wont play games. Says "Error has occurred " please refer to OWNER MANUAL? I opened and checked the ribbon cables, all good and the pins look clean and straight. I also reset and wiped it and it still says error. Any idea why it's not working?
Could you do a video on repairing a ps3 controller that pushes up by itself on the left analog? Specifically the version that comes with the toploader ps3. There doesnt seem to be any videos on a fix.
Question for anyone. I have some grey dmg styled gameboys coming. But one needs a new start and select button and another needs a battery cover. Is there any where I can buy actual parts?
The Retro Future, have you ever heard of or purchased something from a website called Jellybelly Customs? If you had, then you should make a video about Jellybelly Customs!

I bought a Ds once that the seller claimed to not be able to read games. Blew in the cartridge slot once, and the thing worked perfectly!

I bought one with the exact same problem, and i fixed it with the thing dentists chisel teeth with.
but it's way more fun to put it the shield apart tho
Yeah, went about this the hardest way possible.
You could clearly get at that pin with the shield on.
Agreed. However, by doing it the hard way it also shows viewers the entire assembly process, which can be useful if it is a different issue.
But also doing it the hard way and not mentioning that it could’ve been done easier,
Will lead to someone with the same issue doing more damage and costing more than needed.

You absolutely need to buy a hot air station :D you can remove the slot in 10sec and inspect repair or replace by new...
or just get some soder for $1
ShadowcasterZero what does solder have to do with anything
I would recommend removing with soldering Iron and some solder wick , hot air can mess up nearby components
I have one of these in almost perfect conditions! Got it in 2010
