I really hate how aftermarket digitizers are matte instead of glossy, which makes them less responsive for touch screen heavy games. Other than that it's my beloved Castlevania Dawn/Portrait/Ecclesia machine lol
Feels like one of those things where it just depends on the refurbisher. If done well, a refurbished console isn't a bad choice. Otherwise, just get a cheaper second-hand system.
I think people really need to know this video is not really a good reference for making a decision. Here are a few why's. -Refurbish is not always the same. Some claim a brand new looking second hand is a refurbished one, after a good clean. -There are refurbished ones, and there are 'original' refurbished ones, where devices are repaired with brand new 'old' stock materials, or scrapped from mint condition materials donor units. -There is a wide array of second hand for sell that offers original boxes, all original pens and chargers and are barely used with screen protectors, making them so much better than most refurbished ones. So don't use this video to make a decision. If you are in the market for one, go look at both options and find the best deal, based on pictures, testing if possible, and especially reading the information the seller gives. (and check them too). All based on your own budget. This video is good to show some differences you may encounter, so always worth a watch. But he compares two individual devices you won't have yourself. Also, if you buy one with hopes of some investment for later on, check for special edition DSi XL's. The Mario 25th edition is a bit more rare than the plain colored ones, but still plenty of them. And the yellow Pokémon edition is even more rare, possibly the rarest.
I like to think that my pink dsi xl is a special edition, because most dsi xl I see are black and blue, probably due to male kids not wanting to buy the pink one back in the day, because it’s a “girl color”
I managed to find one in mostly good condition on eBay for cheap, because it had a bunch of stickers and residue on the outside shell. With some WD-40 and about an hour of cleaning it looked like new. It's really not hard to "refurbish" a handheld yourself unless you're straight up replacing internal components or something.
I got a brand new blue DSI XL for my birthday in 2010. It did not come with those Brain Age games, but it did come with Flipnote Studio and I used that app a lot. The DSI XL was mainly targeted towards elders. I still really like my DSI XL and I downloaded a lot of games from the DSI shop before it closed down. I also have an original 3DS and New 3DS XL. Whenever I play original DS games, my DSI XL is my preference.
Just bought a refurbished one that was not listed as refurbished yay now touchscreen digitizer is trash and requires harder presses. Everything else is OEM tho😭
can you talk about where to get original stylus for the dsi xl i cant seem to find anywhere? and what would be the impact of using second hand or replica stylus
You can't get original stylus anymore because nintendo stopped making them But you can use a replica with no problems, as long as your ds has a screen protector youre fine
A while ago I bought a refurbished one and everything was fine, the touch screen had to be pressed harder for it to work correctly but for a while I noticed that the battery was discharged by itself, which is original and I never got over what problem it could have been, this happened when I turned it off and left it unused for long periods of time, then I tried charging the battery and leaving it outside the console so that the battery maintained its normal charge and I ruled out that it was the battery. Now I'm thinking about buying a new motherboard to see if it's a motherboard problem.
I personally prefer the overall look of the refurbished one. You are still technically getting a brand new console. Where can I buy a new dsi xl? I used to have the og dsi, so this could be a much needed upgrade
Not sure if it's the refurb parts or just ineptitude. Sometimes it requires a bit of tweaking between alignment and screw tension in order to get proper button feel. Over tightening is the worst feeling.
@@kamm3021 do you have any video of those filters in action? the 3ds can't activate the paralax filter when running DS games, so you'll always have those scanlines
@@VKsChannelI may be a bit blind, what is the issue with the top screen on 3ds for ds games? If it's a matter of the 3d screen, I understand why I didn't notice, since I've mostly been using a 2ds recently. If it's an issue of some kind of resolution mismatch, you can hold down select at game launch to run the game in its original resolution (using a smaller portion of the screen; this is not a perfect solution either).
No such thing exists bud. You thinking of TWLPatcher and you wont get better filters. Since the 3DS screen isnt a divisible res of the DS stuff will always look ugly on it unless at native res. Also without access to the GPU TWLmenu will never get shaders @@kamm3021

Great comparison! I love you went into detail comparing the consoles. I wonder though if this refurbished DS case is among the best or among the worst. Are there better third party cases than these or is this what you can expect from all of them?
Remember that like the mother DSs the DSi XL plays GBA games natively. Even the 3DS does. You just have to use the SD card slot to load them. They look great on the IPS screens.
They do not. This isn't like the GameCube/Wii/Wii U where the professors are evolutions of each other and have the same architecture for native backwards compatibility The DS lite can play GBA games perfectly because it has extra internal hardware just for that purpose. They removed it with the DSi and onwards. You won't get native GBA gameplay on anything but the original DS and DS lite

The wobble on the hinges is present on all DSi and 3DS models. It solves an issue present in the DS Lite, where the hinges broke due to being rigid.

Today I paid for this Nintendo DSi XL console. Is $180 dollars a good price? It brings me multi-integrated games.

New 3DS XL with Twilight++ and widescreen patch to play DS games on 3ds wide screen and call it a day
