Testing the Zombie Tools Diphos (even smashing a knife!)

    So I've put this badass sword through its paces, including some harsh abusive testing which it has taken like a champ. I already knew that ZT blades are built like tanks, but I was still surprised at how little damage it took from some of those tests.
    Cutting, chopping, bashing, stabbing, breaking... I've sure had my fun with this. :)
    The actual review will be uploaded not long after this video, probably 1-3 days later. The first impression is pretty awesome.

      Zombie tools knives are very effective when it comes to cutting, slicing, and wood chopping. You can see that is very apparent in this video.
      There is also a company that makes Viking wood splitter swords that are quite effective in splitting thick pieces of tree wood, and I'm talking tree stump thickness. There's a wood chopping Lumberjack TH-camr girl on here who uses one from time to time, and she makes short work of the logs that she splits with that Viking sword. It's just as effective if not more than any axe.

      ***** Can you show us what it looks like after you fix it? And describe how you fixed it? Do you just slowly resharpen it to an edge manually on a whetstone the broken parts or do you just use like a belt sander or what?

      I thinkkkkkkk he has mentioned that he will be doing a sharpening and edge fixing video some time.. but he hasn't yet had quite enough experience to show and teach it properlyyy how he does it.. or something along these lines.. I think he said it in his how to wash blades or clean swords or whatever video not long ago.

    • @Skallagrim
      @Skallagrim  8 ปีที่แล้ว +79

      +bladewolf VII

      @Skallagrim  8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      It depends on the steel. You're probably thinking of 420, but there are plenty of quality steels used for high end knives.

    • @epicfail5473

      ***** I was under the impression that all stainless steel was more brittle and weaker than normal steel. ?-?

    • @Skallagrim
      @Skallagrim  8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      +Epic Fail
      It's harder and yes, thereby more brittle. That's what makes it unsuitable for swords. But high grade stainless steels like S30V for instance perform extremely well for shorter blades.

    • @epicfail5473

    • @Skallagrim
      @Skallagrim  10 ปีที่แล้ว +69

      Run gilly run
      I actually disagree. It depends on the type. A replica of a historical sidesword or rapier should not be abused because it's made for cutting and penetrating flesh and bone, not hack into wood and metal. Of course blade on blade contact cannot be avoided in fencing, but it's a very different intensity, as you're not supposed to do static blocks. In a sword fight the blade is deflected and redirected, which takes most of the force out of the blow.

    • @scholagladiatoria
      @scholagladiatoria 10 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      ***** I absolutely agree with Skall here. There are lots of types of weapon which simply do not need to be able to sustain this level of abuse, and in fact to make them capable of doing so would in some cases make them worse weapons for the job they are intended for. Extreme example being a smallsword. Anybody could snap a smallsword with both hands and a foot (true of many types of sword actually), but the lightness of the smallsword is a virtue when it comes to fighting against someone else with a smallsword. Swords are not wood chopping tools, they are for fighting with and people are not trees.

    ***** You went very aggressive on this test, this is not always the case. What makes you do so? Is your thrust in the blade, your detachment from the value since you got it for free (!? not even sure what I'm saing here), the provider asked you to do so or anything else?
    Independent from the answer I'd like to point that this kind of test is AMAZING. Very entertaining and educative. I'm just curious about your motive and if this is going to be the default method some day.

      I should also mention that it's about the type of blade as well. Zombie Tools swords are not like historical swords, they are thicker, heavier and more brutal, without the finesse and agility of something like the Caithness. I would not do abusive testing with a rapier either, that would be pointless. A post-apocalyptic tank sword is a different matter. :)

    DIY - the "finish" here (i do it frequently) : get sulphuric acid (Schwefelsäure) , 1l if you want to finish your Longsword, pharmacy can order it, drink a lot of espresso or just ask in a coffeeshop for the daily waste, mix 1 part H2So4 with 2 parts of water (WATER FIRST !!!), submerge the sword (i cut a HDPE(Tryptan) - pipe in half to have a safe "bath") for about 3min (Room temp!) if hot shorter (CAVE exoth.reaction), and put the sword into the espressotrester (saturated with water of course), let it rest at least 15min , rinse, sharpen edge, done. (you can vary the times to get different results in color and texture, longer h2so4 will roughen the surface more, longer espresso will darken the oxyde layer. works with stainless steel also, needs longer times , thou.

    • @The1Rausch
      @The1Rausch 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The1Rausch btw 5:00 i see this a lot ... the persian low quality metal comming from india and pakistan etc... they make damascus out of rough iron with a 49HRc core i mean ... i tested what you did there before in my shop and it is normal. if i smash a 62HRc knife as hard as i can onto a 58HRc Knife this is exactly what you see ... once (i guess one out of 10) the harder knife just broke into 2 pieces but it was torsion-damascus and it broke along a torsion-line so ... steel will not do significant damage to steel that is harder than itself whatsoever.

    • @The1Rausch
      @The1Rausch 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The1Rausch to manufacture (and harden the steel) something in this quality (ELMAX or CPM based steel but hammered not pressed) without High-Tech, i bet just one out of 4 wouldnt break during hardening ... so i would price it at about 6000$ , 6499$ with a leather sheat. This thing is a good deal... lol

      Fair enough I guess lol. But it's kind of a shame, they're very sturdy blades and would be alot more practical all-round with proper hilts. That's the only thing keeping me from buying one.
      That's my problem with the katanas people worship way too much too lol, they have practically no hilt, so, as my swordplay teacher calls them, they're "eastern suicide swords" lol. They're not designed for sword fighting, just for the bushido quick draw type of strike, they're one-trick ponies.

      My Cocaine I highly disagree. I am far more agile with a longsword, a broadsword, or a rapier, than I could be with a Katana.
      Those western swords are designed for combat, for actual face to face sword fighting. A katana is designed for the primary purpose of a single surprise attack when drawn (bushido), or for assassination.

      He gets sent a lot of swords free for review, but still gives honest critique. It's worth it for the company because he gives them a lot of exposure and even if he doesn't like the sword, he critiques them in such a way you can make an educated choice. Zombie Tools gave away a $650 sword for free and got 600,000+ views of exposure between the two videos. A good arrangement for both parties.
