It is one of Sikhs main issue which makes us threaten that if we don’t speak out then one day our own will start believing that we are no different. And this is happening on state level. Shekhar Gupta misses the most important point. It’s the economic one Punjab GDP per capita used to be highest one now it’s at just about average. All neighbors Haryana, Himachal, Uttarakhand have a higher GDP per capita. Punjab missed out in liberalization era while rest of the country prospered. The real problem with Punjab is the feudal nature of the society and lack of Industrialization. Unless land reforms are made Punjab will continue the backward March.
Also another important point. Fertility ratio of Punjab is way below replacement. It's 1.4 which is even lesser than industrialized states like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat.

His way of saying things attracted youth and he became the spokesperson to channelize this ideology. Believe it or not it is a death wish and he knows it too that the state wont leave him alive. Well, I cannot but chuckle at the issues you have raised in this video and article. The same kind of problems like conversion, muslim exceptionalism, illegal immigration and denial of heritage and history had made the Hindu conservatives discontented and angry. However, in those days there were no article by any reputed journalist about these issues. The Print was not there but you as a journalist were there. The intellectuals, or psuedo-intellectuals laughed at these questions and were dishonest. They did not engage these questions but either defamed those who raised these (i.e Arun Shourie), or spread malicious propaganda against the Hindu community. In fact, it was only after the second victory of BJP, that many of these issues like psuedo-secularism was engaged with by a few journalists or political commentators. Your own article after the Ram Temple Judgement comes to mind. The fact is, if these issues were engaged with in the true spirit of democracy, the present majoritarianism would have been largely avoidable.

I like the empathetic tone of Shekhar Gupta on these issues, especially one about conversion by Christian pastors. I can't help wonder however why the same empathetic tone is not found from him when Hindus raise the exact same concern? Also what solution do you prescribe? I in principle oppose organized conversion campaigns. I don't know however if and how law should fight it.

What injustice. Maharashtra has faced major injustice in terms of fund allocation and suppression of its history and culture at the national level for long time. Why indeed are the hurting? 2 reasons in my view -(1) A polity which has been encouraging, instigating and patronising population to segregate themselves and position themselves adversarially against Hindu in general. The British did that and the Nehruvian establishment did and continues to do. And (2) the theological direction which the Sikh faith has taken increasingly with greater emphasis on "monotelheosm" as ta key market and emphasizing an us vs them divide against the broader Hindus around. Green revolution didn't do any good except bringing some extra cash to farmers. Green revolution increased the dependence on ground water. Before green revoltion all farmers would use the water from rivers to do farming and negligible amount of ground water was used. Green revolution introduced pesticides, fertilizers which are very harmful and they weren't used before it. It caused fertility of soil of detoriate. Before GR there was a huge varity of crops grown but after it, only wheat and rice is grown. Sure GR brought some money to farmers but it almost like making money selling your organs like eyes, kidneys

Shekhar Gupta misses the most important point. It’s the economic one Punjab GDP per capita used to be highest one now it’s at just about average. All neighbors Haryana, Himachal, Uttarakhand have a higher GDP per capita. Punjab missed out in liberalization era while rest of the country prospered. The real problem with Punjab is the feudal nature of the society and lack of Industrialization. Unless land reforms are made Punjab will continue the backward March.
Also another important point. Fertility ratio of Punjab is way below replacement. It's 1.4 which is even lesser than industrialized states like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat.

But the main reason I would say Sikhs are no different than Hindus is that While all (ALL) foreign religions believe "Mine if the only god", All hindu sects believe "ALL GODS ARE ONE". I am a practicing sikh...i have come out of punjab ( UP & BIHAR ) for some business work...and in these recent days, when there is news about amritpal and everything....i m feeling insecure...every person here taunts or trying to address me as a khalistani...and presuming me as a supporter of khalistan and amritpal, despite my strong opinion against it......one thing as i have realised, being born after post crisis punjab.... I am a Punjabi Hindu (from the once prosperous city of Ludhiana) and now that you have brought religion into the title of your episode itself, let me retort back....aren't Punjabi Hindus hurting ?! Just two episodes ago in cut the clutter you were almost gushing and glorifying Bhindranwale, like you were in love with the monster. You had at least on one occasion in the past used Bhindranwale's words to highlight the differences between Sikhs and Hindus (remember Nikkardhari and Sunnatdhari ?!). So now if RSS and BJP say Hindus and Sikhs are one you have a problem with that too. Even our Constitution recognizes Sikhs, Buddhists and Jains as Hindus, its not just BJP/RSS. Well, I cannot but chuckle at the issues you have raised in this video and article. The same kind of problems like conversion, muslim exceptionalism, illegal immigration and denial of heritage and history had made the Hindu conservatives discontented and angry. However, in those days there were no article by any reputed journalist about these issues. The Print was not there but you as a journalist were there. The intellectuals, or psuedo-intellectuals laughed at these questions and were dishonest. They did not engage these questions but either defamed those who raised these (i.e Arun Shourie), or spread malicious propaganda against the Hindu community. In fact, it was only after the second victory of BJP, that many of these issues like psuedo-secularism was engaged with by a few journalists or political commentators. Your own article after the Ram Temple Judgement comes to mind. The fact is, if these issues were engaged with in the true spirit of democracy, the present majoritarianism would have been largely avoidable.
I do not think we can imagine India as becoming a hindu rastra. This is because India is a country that has many religions. If India can become a hindu rastra why cant it become a Sikh rastra or a muslim rastra or a christian rastra?

What injustice. Maharashtra has faced major injustice in terms of fund allocation and suppression of its history and culture at the national level for long time. Still people of Maharashtra are nationalist to the core and having empathy for all communities in India for national interest. Khalistan is very narrow minded unsustainable idea. Honestly some of these are complaints of what would be a religious state and not too different from what Hindu conservatives complain about, especially what pertains to conversions. Why indeed are the hurting? 2 reasons in my view -(1) A polity which has been encouraging, instigating and patronising population to segregate themselves and position themselves adversarially against Hindu in general. The British did that and the Nehruvian establishment did and continues to do. And (2) the theological direction which the Sikh faith has taken increasingly with greater emphasis on "monotelheosm" as ta key market and emphasizing an us vs them divide against the broader Hindus around. This also gets a free uncritical pass for the 1st reason.
These are the only 2 reasons Sikhs are hurting.
Otherwise the problems and issues listed out as causing "hurt" applies to Hindus more than they apply to any other grouping.
How is a Hindu Rashtra different from Khalistan?
Very simple. Hindu Rashtra is not a threat to the territorial integrity of India, unlike Khalistan.
The only reason we see these separatist protests in our country is because of the impotency of government in power both in state and centre. Anyone who question integrity of country or takes law in their hands to foment separatism if dealt with iron hands we wouldn't see this ever happening again.

In the garb of arresting Amritpal the police has forcibly taken away 207 boys from their homes in various villages of Punjab. This was the plan from *DAY ONE* :
1. Gather as many people as possible in Amritpal Rallies byestanders, common people, people coming for free food etc. Amritpal is a mercenary who is employed by Central Agencies to create unrest in Punjab by any means
2. He came in September 2022, he was promoted & projected as a hero of Sikhs by RSS/BJP backed media
3. Get those people gathered in Amritpal rallies or photographed with him marked as *KHALISTANIS*
4. Police will arrest those people from their homes
5. This will create unrest amongst common people, they will protest, national media will term it as another *KHALISTANI UPRISING* & *BJP/RSS* will be able to make a *SIKH TURBAN & A KHALISTANI* synonymous
6. May be another wave of Violence against Sikhs cannot be ruled out in Punjab & Outside Punjab

The assumption of Sikhs as Hindus is not BJP's figment of imagination; its an established fact recognized in the constitution. The same applies to Buddhists, Jains, etc. as well. In any case, the most basic problem with Punjab is the rot in culture. Education is not any importance.

do you really still think that green revolution was any good? 😂 Green revolution has clearly been proved to be one of the biggest disaster in history of punjabi after 1947. Green revolution didn't do any good except bringing some extra cash to farmers. Green revolution increased the dependence on ground water. Before green revoltion all farmers would use the water from rivers to do farming and negligible amount of ground water was used. Green revolution introduced pesticides, fertilizers which are very harmful and they weren't used before it. It caused fertility of soil of detoriate. Before GR there was a huge varity of crops grown but after it, only wheat and rice is grown. Sure GR brought some money to farmers but it almost like making money selling your organs like eyes, kidneys
